I started going in July of 1988, so the clothing and hairstyles of 1986 were still widely popular when I began visiting. It doesn't feel like almost 40 years have passed. I can still "smell" the rain and food from that first visit.
Thanks for posting this video. I was 6 in 1986, grew up in Xenia. I can’t say we went every summer but I was there several times as a child. The Smurf ride was definitely my favorite. It is really cool to be able to show my daughter what it was like when I was a kid compared to today.
I'm very thankful for these type of videos. It allows me at leats for a little while, to look into a window into the past. I only wish that I could jump through it and join in sometimes. Just for a little while😔
34 years ago. I get so sentimental looking at old vdo nothing seems like the old days. Seems like everything was safer. You can walk in the park ride bike til when ever 😢
Thank you SO much for posting this. I used to go to Kings Island once or twice a year and it's so awesome seeing these old attractions that are long gone. I was 10 in 1986.
Brought back so many memories. Thank you for posting. Sky lab, king cobra, the beast, Smurf ride….. even my first “big” coaster, screaming demon! I spent many days at KI, as I had a pass several years straight when I was younger. You even got the tram!!! I’ve told my son about the team at kings island so many times, now I can show him!
That was some great old footage. Funny I rode the tram when the park first opened as a 5 year old, but after that it was all about the coasters. I didn't realize how many animals they ended up with.
Thanks for the memories!! This is the era when we would visit Kings Island just about every summer. By the way, the ride at 1:13 is actually the Kings Mills Log Flume ride, now called Race For Your Life, Charlie Brown. White Water Canyon footage starts at 1:52. And there's also a little bit of footage of the other old log flume ride, Kenton's Cove Keelboat Canal, at 14:45.
I specifically remember being on the Skylab (red cart) with my buddy. Smelled like Skyline, all I heard was good times and You Give Love a Bad Name playing through the speakers. I thought I was the luckiest kid in the world! Thank you for uploading. Hate that I just now found it.
Is this your video? I think I know one of the women in the home video. I believe I worked with her when she worked for a local bank. Did she retire from banking by chance?

Even if you have never been to this park it will and can bring fond memories for you 😮😅🎉
Wow I was there every summer 1990-1992 they didn’t have the animals anymore by then or the weird bucket ride boy things are different now though
Oh my. If this was July 5 1986 that was my 9th birthday. Loved this iteration of Kings Island and miss all these rides
11 yrs old when this was filmed lol! My Dad used to take his super 8 and do jus as you did.
I still remember that beautiful smell of LaRosas pizza by the fountain as you walk in and notice hardly any fat people!

I was working on the Skylab in 1986, first year for that ride and I was the first supervisor

When I was a kid in the 70s, all the statues of native americans, settlers, and outlaws on the train ride were real people . Thanks for the memories.
That's what I thought too but I was 5 when the park opened and that's the only time I rode that. After that it was all about coasters.
Am I the only one who thinks it’s nuts kings island used to have its own zoo? The tram was for hot days…. AC. 😂😂
I believe this park is better themed than Six Flags 😮!!!??? I was a Hanna Barbarra fan😮😅🎉🎉
😊
This is very smooth camerawork! What camera did you use?

How is it possible for an adult male to be this bad with a camera. It’s like he was recording with binoculars.
