Great interview Jay. The 1963 Corvette Sting Ray is one of the most beautiful cars ever designed, anywhere. My hat is off to the designers at G.M. who fought to get this car into production.
I love the book revues but more importantly is the cars. Jay is a car guy. He does not talk down to the people who watch the vids. My father was a car mechanic and he would talk about older cars and his all time favorite was a Drusenburg Also in the fifties and sixties we would look forward to the new models.Thank You
This is by far my favorite channel!! The thing I love most is actually seeing these ultra rare cars and bike on the road instead of sitting in a museum collecting dust!
I really enjoy the show and the history of the cars. My father had an old Hudson. He quit driving and gave me a Chrysler New Yorker when I was 21yrs old. Maybe it was a 1971, you could seat 8 people in that car. It took forever to wax it because it was so big.
That split window on the back is Smokin Hot...... I never payed too much attention to that before. I learned something new on Book Club Day. Thanks Jay, for having an interesting guest.

I remember the media battle that Jay and David Letterman had over who would ultimately succeed the King of Latenight Johnny Carson. It's funny when you talk about Peter Brock because we too had a famous race driver named Peter Brock 'King Of The Mountain' but sadly, our Brocky has passed over. RIP to a great Australian!
Just now seeing this great interview. I remember seeing the Mako Shark probably in Sports Car Graphic in the early 60s and being impressed. Then when I got out of the USAF in '71 my little brother had a baby blue '65 Sting Ray and I bought a red '65 Corsa turbo. Thanks so much for the history.
Interesting info about the split back window, a guy at work had worked at a GM dealership and he was talking about a few of the 63s they cut the partition out and installed the 64 rear glass , I thought he was pulling my leg , it's true .
Jay, what do I like about your vids - the variety. In your interviews. In this one there are little tid-bits like the 'battle' between Duntov and Mitchell and the flat-lander philosophy. Love your vids on steam, Pebble Beach, the over the top collectables (Dusenberg). the basic ones (1940 Plymouth, 1954 Dodge), muscle cars, motor cycles (old and new), the curmudgeon, etc, etc. Jay, I guess that didn't help you. Well then how about I like the perspective you bring to these topics. Have a good day and don't damage yourself when you 'fire' up that Stanley. :D
Jay Leno, you should do a story on two Peter Brocks. American Peter Brock was a car designer, Australian Peter Brock was a world class race driver. Aussie Peter Brock died in a car that Amercian Peter Brock helped to create, a hard top Shelby Cobra.
I like how your passion for automobiles isn't for a one particular brand, make, model, year, or era. You seem to enjoy a automobile's intricacies. "What were the mindset of the designers?" "How did they make it happen?" "What make this newer model better than the last one?" "Even with all the "NO.", sayers that come from upper management, so that the buyer could get a car that he/she would really want and enjoy." The educational value of your show, that you could keep for yourself because of your social position in life, but u still give away on your channel is really priceless. Maybe i get this book, maybe i don't' at least i know it is out there. Thank you Mr. Leno and also to everyone who work on this show to make it possible.
I've learned quite alot from this one video. I always assumed engineers and designers back then had free reign, and chose to make poor choices or bad decisions, based on lack of knowledge, but as it turns out, committees had a stranglehold back then as they do now. If it wasn't for a few passionate enthusiasts trying to retain their dream of a great sports car, working on it in secret no less, it wouldn't have come to fruition. Not to mention the philosophy of building cars that only go in a straight line, made sense to them as roads were straight and track performance wasn't at all a thing. Again, I always thought they just didn't want to bother putting in the extra effort to properly develop the car. Mr. Leno, I couldn't be more thankful for you making this channel happen, along with everyone else who helps make it happen obviously. What I wouldn't do to meet you, or visit your garage and just talk automobiles for time on end.

I remember my first ride in a 63 vette my older sister came by and took me and other sister to carrols hamburgers and I was 5 and small enough to sit in the back some how. That was a ride I will never forget Brenda was street racer and she could work that 4 speed like a pro
There are two kinds of drivers. There are those people who buy a car and put it in the garage and only bring it out on days when the weather is perfect. Drive it for an hour and then put it back in the garage after dusting if off. The second kind of driver drives the car with a look in my eye, a smile on my face and a giggle and laugh as I put in first gear and put the peddle to da metal as the engine and tires scream a duet.
I agree whole-heartedly. Not much on YT holds my attention for long these days, except Jay's Garage. Watched many of 'em...added quite a few to faves to re-watch. I greatly appreciate the time, effort and love Jay's put in to not only his own personal collection - but the passion he shares with us all...and the great insight, knowledge and experience his various guests bring to the table.
CACKLE! CACKLE! CACKLE! .. I remember 40 to 45 years ago a mechanic told me that my vet had been hit on every side, except the roof. I couldn't control myself or the car. Outside the car I was cool, calm and collected. Inside the car I changed into a screaming and laughing insane driver. Did ya know the vet is made of plastic? Turn on da key and hang on.

Really amazing story from two great story tellers. Hearing about all the backlash that kept coming up, and to defie all the odds is crazy sounding. Today we can't even imagine the Corvette, and the Corvette brand not being around. It would make american car guy's nuts just thinking, “what if it never happened" 😱 But hey we're talking about the 54 Stingray! That is timeless. Split back window. It always reminds me of a black and white photo, of a beautiful women from the 50's. All the lines just flow together, to make one amazing form you never get tired to seeing, and don't care that it's not in color because it might cheapen the look if it was.
I learned something new, I thought Zora was the designer of the split window. Very interesting story. He started at age 19 designing some be great American icon's. Thanks guy's.

Ironically I had a silver 64 sting ray telephone because I love silver and consider it in silver the car that owns that color....because it fits that car better than any other....
Wow as a Dodge enthuisist I alway admired the vette and I have to say that next time I see one ill have to show it a little bit more respect because of the fact that its has little bit more status of respect knowing that it almost never got built and its founders were determined to make it go i think that would have been a terrible shame because my challenger has its place in the auto world and so does the vette...
the designer of the icon front end was Larry Shinoda who actually fine tuned Virgil Exners front end design on the Simca Special... So a Chrysler guy designed the Corvette Stingray in a way :) Sure all these guys were management and on the team but the real design guys were Shinoda/Exner Jr

Pete Brock designed cobra Daytona coupe when he was 19 he was way ahead of his time !
More impressive even than that, was the car went from a sketch on the floor at Shelby American to a completed car ready for testing in 90 days!
