I recently found out that Bob Iger is also the executive who pressured David Lynch to reveal Laura Palmer's killer in Twin Peaks. This frustrated Lynch, forcing him to leave it and practically killed the show. These people need to provide the talented people with the resources to make good content and stop trying to interfere with the creative process. Lucas wanted full control over Star Wars for that reason.
Twin Peaks was a gem and way ahead of its time. Had no idea that Iger was behind that decision. What a FOOL! Lynch created a masterpiece, and all it took was Iger to destroy it! I guess both he and KK are pretty much on the same page.

I saw the first Star Wars film when I was 17 years old. It was my senior year in high school. It was unlike any film I had seen before, including 2001 A Space Oddity which came out when I was 10. The Star Wars franchise started going down hill long before Disney bought Lucasfilm. The prequels, commonly known as Episodes 1-3 are so bad that they are unwatchable. Disney just drove the final nail into the franchise. Star Wars is already dead. There is no need to make another Star Wars film or television episodic. Just let it fade away and be forgotten with the exception of the first three films, episodes 4-6. Someone else will come along and write about another great universe that will make for great movies. But Disney shouldn't make them. Disney f's up everything it touches.

To be fair, George trusted Kathleen Kennedy to run Lucasfilm in his retirement. Her taking over Lucasfilm was part of the deal he struck with Bob Iger. Keeping KK in place with contract renewals and extensions has been Disney's mistake.

@ i’m not sure what other recourse with the company or Lucas film. Kathleen Kennedy is an interested in doing good stories or good shows. She’s too busy trying to push agendas which you’re not doing any good and it seems Bob Iger has no spine or thinks it’s good to just keep doing all the other stuff that’s causing them trouble. So in the end, I’m not sure what could be done better.
Let's be honest. Lucas started watering down the STAR WARS universe way back with RETURN. Maybe to make it more accessible for small children? But he didn't have to because kids already liked it!!

The only reason Kathleen Kennedy was given Star Wars was because of her record with Steven Spielberg films. Disney must have assumed that because Spielberg had so many great films with her as his number two she therefore must be a great producer. Unfortunately it turns out that she has spent her entire career riding on Spielberg's coat tails and now she's been given her own franchise she's screwing it up royally. I bet on the rare occasions George Lucas isn't happily thinking about the 4 billion dollars he received for selling Star Wars, he mourns over just how much Disney have destroyed his child. Just think what he could have achieved with the last trilogy while Carrie was still alive and Harrison and Mark were still willing to star in them if he had remained at the helm for just another ten years? So sad 😟

I saw the first Star Wars film when I was 17 years old. It was my senior year in high school. It was unlike any film I had seen before, including 2001 A Space Oddity which came out when I was 10. The Star Wars franchise started going down hill long before Disney bought Lucasfilm. The prequels, commonly known as Episodes 1-3 are so bad that they are unwatchable. Disney just drove the final nail into the franchise. Star Wars is already dead. There is no need to make another Star Wars film or television episodic. Just let it fade away and be forgotten with the exception of the first three films, episodes 4-6. Someone else will come along and write about another great universe that will make for great movies. But Disney shouldn't make them. Disney f's up everything it touches.

@@BigT2664I beg to differ. The prequels, and Return of the Jedi, showed that even Lucas didn’t understand the secret sauce of Star Wars. The first two movies appealed to adults and children alike - gritty action movies, a bit of violence, and a wonderful universe filled with toy merchandising ideas. Starting with ROTJ Lucas began making Star Wars increasingly juvenile. I’m sure his sequel trilogy would have been better than the wretched Disney/Kennedy disaster, but the arc of the prequels doesn’t inspire confidence in Lucas’ vision. Recall that his answer to critics who complained about the prequels is Star Wars is a story for children. CLANG! Thud.
