    OFFICIAL SHPIEL
Hollow Knight on Nintendo Switch includes all content packs released up to launch in June 2018: Hidden Dreams, The Grimm Troupe and Lifeblood.
Descend into darkness and brave the depths of a forgotten kingdom in Hollow Knight, an atmospheric and challenging 2D action-adventure for Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch. Explore the vast interconnected world of Hallownest, unravel ancient mysteries and conquer a menacing evil.
    Explore a unique underground kingdom
Buried far beneath the fading town of Dirtmouth sleeps Hallownest, a once-great civilisation now fallen to rack and ruin. Explorers and thieves are drawn below the surface in search of riches, glory and answers to old secrets, but amongst these plundered halls now roam tainted creatures and bizarre beasts, corrupted by a sweet, sickly poison that seeps through the soil.
As the eponymous traveller Hollow Knight, journey deep down into the vast labyrinth of caves, corridors and ruined cities that make up this eerie, decaying dominion. Scattered throughout the soil lie towns and settlements home to a cast of weird and intriguing characters, while riddles and treasures guarded by vicious creatures await those who venture off the beaten path and investigate every creak and crevice.
    Fight ferocious foes
If you’re looking to descend further into the darkness, then be prepared to defend yourself against hordes of corrupted creepy crawlies. Move nimbly to evade enemy attacks, dodge incoming projectiles, master wall jumps to claim the high ground, then take the offensive with your trusty sword and powerful abilities.
Defeated enemies will leave behind Geo - fossils that can be exchanged for new items and shortcuts - as well as a mystical energy that can revitalise your weary body or be channelled into powerful new abilities. Should you be bested in battle, a shadow of your former self will remain where you once stood - find it and defeat it to claim back your worldly riches.
    Curious characters
When you grow weary of spelunking, return to the surface and venture into the peculiar town of Dirtmouth to purchase items using Geo or seek advice from the quirky townsfolk.
Ancient curios called Charms lay hidden in long-forgotten chambers, and in the possession of the weird and wonderful folk you’ll meet on your quest. Find these Charms and equip them to gain helpful abilities, such as spawning enraged insects to battle alongside you or increasing the amount of Geo dropped by felled foes.
    Symphony of the knight
The surreal world of Hollow Knight is expertly brought to life with a stunning hand-drawn art style, traditional 2D animation and a captivating original score. With incredibly detailed backgrounds and otherworldly character designs, the gloomy, dream-like environments of Hallownest positively drip with atmosphere at every turn, while a pensive, melancholic soundtrack accompanies Hollow Knight on his lonesome journey.
Burrow into a cursed underground kingdom, vanquish vicious beasts and lift the curse on a crumbling insect civilisation in Hollow Knight for Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch.
Discover the surreal insect realm of Hallownest and unravel its deepest, darkest mysteries
Explore a vast underground kingdom tainted by a vicious curse and infested by bizarre beasts
Use your blade and powerful abilities to dispatch foes and uncover secret paths
Marvel at the stunning, evocative hand-drawn art style and traditional 2D animation

TheHayduken1 I don't play too many mobile games but the ones I have come across or seen do not have tight action controls or gameplay or a fully fleshed out soundtrack and story. I definitely don't expect EVERYONE to want this type of game, but trust me it is far from a mobile game. Don't discount a game just because it is a 2D platformer with a hand drawn art style.

Played it 60 hrs to 106% on Steam, but I bought it again on Switch (and replayed it to the max 107% in 19 hrs) because I feel this game is criminally underpriced. With the immense quality of the game on top of the 4 free content updates, this game feels at least on par in terms of value with a $40 3DS game.

    • @senorsnipey1595
      @senorsnipey1595 6 лет назад +1

Im just trying to make the point that a game that has max 20 hours of gameplay cant be worth a game with over 60-100. 15 bucks may be too cheap but not by much. 20 tops imo. Other games that fall into similar category go for any where between 10 to 25. I think it was just the developers gift to sell it at this price.

    • @zheoferyth
      @zheoferyth 6 лет назад +27

Señor Snipey Max 20 hours of gameplay? My first playthrough 100% was about 48 hours. And then there were the challenges and replayability, some things only happen if you change up the order in which you beat the game, and then there's the speedrun challenges and Steel Soul. I've put 90 hours on that game on Steam. Nowhere 20 hours tops.
Oh and when Gods and Glory releases, I'll play it again. This game is phenomenal for a 15$ game, my favourite 2017 game... And that's saying a lot with the other games 2017 brought.

    • @alphaomegagiant
      @alphaomegagiant 6 лет назад +18

Señor Snipey Except by your logic, Hollow Knight, which has sixty hours of content should be more expensive than Shadow of the Collosus, which is a seven hour game. so what exactly do you believe again?

You forgot 8% to the final score. That you can include just from the fact that Team Cherry GAVE 3 (yes, three) and soon in total 4 DLCs FOR FREE! Seriously, who does that? Lack of full map handed to you at start? Just a personal preference, not a con. This is a beautiful gem that deserves the best scores for the excelent job it's doing while having a price that's at most only 1/10th of it's actual value. In quality of game making it has no competion nor worthy oponent. I did not invest 350 hours in it for nothing while you can finish the game easily in around 20 hours for the first time. I enjoyed it all, uncovering every last bit of story that I was completly immersed in or getting epicly beaten 30 times in a row by the best boss of the game.

I have just finished one of the endings yesterday with 102% completion on the Switch. Bought it sort of on a whim after hearing it mentioned as a good example too many times, and wow. I am not exaggerating when I say this is one of, if not the best game I have ever played. In terms of how unique, big, creative and perfectly executed in every way it just can't be beat. There are some points I wish you touched upon, one is with movement and attacks, the other is with the graphics.
The movement is so tight, perfect and fitting to the world no matter how much you have unlocked of it. Not only that, but the progression of the new moves and attacks are at a perfect pace for you to not only learn every move, but actually master it before you learn a new one. It is so well balanced. The fact that there are so many upgrades and new moves as well is just out of this world. Every time I learned a new move it took me by surprise in a positive way. I instantly remembered places that was unreachable that was now an open world wanting to be explored. It could not have been better in any way IMO.
On the graphics side, the way every area is so unique in every way could not be much better either. Both in terms of how many different areas there are and how different they are from each other. The design of every NPC and enemy is completely fitting to the area in every way as well. One thing I think this game did well was conveying when you were closing in on a new area, and what area that would be as the graphics started to slowly turn to the new area.
I could praise this game for weeks. This is no doubt one of the best games I have ever experienced. Every detail is on point. It will be my favorite game for many years I suspect.

Hey, been a while guys, not much free time nowadays, but I always watch your video as always. Well, an outstanding game deserves an outstanding video such as this one.
Anyways, I'll just say it straight: This is pretty much the best videogame I've played so far this year, no other even comes close (leaving remakes aside) to this masterpiece, that's so undervalued by the general public, which is still asking for new 1st party, when the nindies are SO GOOD.
Really, I can't be very objective or analitic this time, the only flaw I can find is too vague, making me have to enjoy playing again, just to uncover more hidden parts of the story by myself and having to rely on internet theories many time to understand it (which may no be a flaw depending on the perspective), but really, there's nothing like this out there, believe me, you won't regret this one AT ALL. Fir the rest, there's this great video above me.
My highest personal score so far: 9.7/10
As well as the highest kinda-objective score: 9.5/10
GO PLAY HOLLOW KNIGHT, BY ALL MEANS

I understand what your saying (not bashing you or saying "git gud") but personally the more punishing, the more masochistic the game (maybe its b/c I'm 37 years old, and I'm a long-time gamer of platformers, metroidvanias, punishing type retro games) you know the Edmund McMillen games (The Binding of Isaac: AB+ on Switch is highly addictive, and I've put 650 hours played) and its very UNFORGIVING especially for a new player...doesnt teach you, or hold your hand, or detail anything for you. I like that...Learn through-trial & error (some would say thats the current generations "Souls-like" type games....trial through death.
But I personally think the more punishing the game, its a double edged sword, the MORE rewarding it is when you finally overcome the obstacle or boss or (whatever it may be) cause your brain floods with dopamine...you feel literally almost like a short buzz (everything comes into focus) ahhh...finally, (then you can relax) eventually that feeling goes away and your back to frustration lol (try 1001 Spikes, or La Mulana, or Super Meat Boy) I've 110% golden god ALL those games....and 1001 Spikes especially is very classic nes-8-bit era, unforgiving (hidden traps, no self explanation, very small mini map, limited lifes/restarts, it has that classic feel) and those kind of games just MOTIVATE me to be better, work harder, its what I enjoy about games (above all other categories) "challenge" and replay value = the 2 most foremost important aspects well I could say
      Controls
      Challenge
      Replay Value
      Exploration (Content value)
(of course other aspects like soundtrack/audio + visual style/art style, and fun factor, and combat ...though I'd say combat falls under controls category) but while all categories are important...those 4 I listed first...are the most important (in that specific order). The more punishing, and difficult-just-for-the-sake-of-difficult the game is....the more focused I get (almost like an OCD type thing)...if I have to do a level in Meat Boy 600+ times to complete it and get A+ I will...lol just the way I am (that happens when you've been doing platformers and twitch-platformers for 27+ years) I come from the days of Super Ghosts n Ghouls and Battletoads....so this kind of game (or any of these types of indie/masterpieces) are right down my alley.
I play them all (from Ori and the Blind Forest to Fez to Super Motherload and Salt and Sanctuary to Hotline Miami and Olli Olli, and Super Meat Boy, Braid, Apotheon, Dustforce DX, N+, N++, La Mulana, 1001 Spikes, The End is Nigh, upcoming: Dead Cells, Deaths Gambit, DS Castlevania games, Hollow Knight, Shovel Knight, and the list just goes on) I complete them all, 1 by 1 (Axiom Verge, Cave Story+, Tiny Barbarian DX, Celeste, etc) I like my AAA titles too (the Witchers, the Elder Scrolls, you know big open world ARPGS, action/adventures, TLOU, Uncharted, Killzone, across all types of genres...both Indie AND AAA....I can go from Witcher 3 to Breath of the Wild to Undertale and Ori and the Blind Forest to Hollow Knight to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, to Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ to God of War, to Kerbal Space Program, and everything in between. But challenge is foremost one of the more important aspects, not all games I play are that challenging, some are a breeze (but long as they have other redeeming qualities I can forgive it)....GTA games aren't all that hard, more story-based, and about exploration and killing people LOL and hijacking cars (which never gets old) but....theres something to be said about a challening classic retro-style platformer....
TL:DR Frustration makes some players put the controller down...for me frustration just motivates me almost obsessive like until I beat the game lol I cant MOVE on to a new game until I complete the current title I am playing (doesn't matter if its a 400 hour open world game like Xenoblade Chronicles X, and/or a 8 hour romp through Journey/Flower or Undertale) I gotta complete it before moving onto next game I have a few gaming rules (call them ticks if you want) but
      1) No microtransactions (I've never utilized one, or purchased one...hence why I dont enjoy Freemium/script-based iOS games the type of games your co-workers play on their phones during breaks at work...no thanks lol)
      2) No pre-orders (Haven't pre-ordered a game since 1997/Final Fantasy VII on PSX/PS1....and I was a junior in high school that year...lol)
      3) No sports games (I hate sports IRL, much less in games)
      4) Challenge and replay value ...it must have one or the other. Or be damn fun or atleast have an art style I really like.
one of the best games I've played in recent years (outside of Red Dead Redemption and Dead Space) has been Hollow Knight and Hyper Light Drifter (another title NOW coming to the Switch along with Dead Cells) which ...looks like this summer w/ nintendo indies is really heating up...I have been playing Isaac so much I've developed Stockholm syndrome (lmao) but...I need a break from it...nearly 700 hours on the Switch I've already blasted through 2 joy-con pairs LOL...I need a break, but jumping into Hollow Knight looks like the difficulty meter isnt going down (I'm going from one punishing game of a masterpiece to another masterpiece / punishing game....I dont know why I do that to myself) such is the life of a life-long gamer. /tear-drop. lol
But Binding of Isaac man....that game is in a category all to itself....600+ items, 2,400 room combinations (the RNG god), luck + skill driven (a combination) + MASSIVE replay value, an (this is how I describe it) "isometric dungeon crawler with dark satirical humor, with a religious over-tone, that may rub some people the wrong way" (as developer Edmund McMillen one of the more wealthy/well-known/famous indie developers had a major riff w/ his mother growing up and hated organized religion) at first Nintendo didnt even want to promote/release the game on the 3DS, but eventually gave in (seeing as how Isaac is in the top 10 of best selling indie games of all time, with 12-million units across 7 devices, its on damn near every device from the last 2 gens) 4 major expansions, 5 booster packs, 2,400 room combinations, 600+ items, 15 unlockable characters, 35 challenges, daily challenges, 375 achievement/secrets, millions of players, communities, clans, websites, discussion boards (like DIablo 2, Isaac has taken on a life of its own, you can come here to youtube type in "binding of isaac" and get 35,000 videos of "OP runs" "best seed run ever" the variation + random number generator (seeds) makes the replay value massive, its literally like crack cocaine to a pipe head, I find myself even after 400, 500, 600, nearly 700 hours wanting to go back for another run, more stuff to do, more things to unlock, hell I could EASILY hit 1,000 hours and still not be 100% complete. I know players with 1,200 hours, 1,500 hours (upwards of 2,000 hours on this game) It's been out since 2011 (so nearly 7 1/2 years) so its developed quite a cult-like-fan-following.
Demons farting, babies taking drugs, unicorns shitting out rainbows, retarded dog-like-creatures making sexy moaning sounds, and its the only game where you "want to get cancer" lol not to mention alot of the items names are hallmarks or "shout-outs" to other famous games, or famous developers, or celebrities, or movies, or pop culture in general...you gotta have a keen eye/ears to catch the level of depth that game has to think basically 1 man created it....lol Edmund McMillen is a twisted twisted individual, to me he is one of the developers of the decade...Team Cherry is up there as well...and Moon Studios (the creators of Ori and the Blind Forest and upcoming sequel Ori and the Will of the Wisps), you could throw Jonathan Blow I guess as well. (Matt White from Columbus, Ohio is working on a project called "GHOST SONG" it looks ABSOLUTELY amazing, a true to form 16-bit-era Metroidvania, crash landing on a eerie lonely haunting planet...its mesmerizing, haunting, hes been working on it since 2012 (started off as a STENCYL project / a small flash project...and he realized its ambitions were far beyond STENCYL, so he transferred the title & its development over to Unity and Unity 2.1. The last 5 years its become a full on passion project (like Thomas Happ with Axiom Verge) supposebly theres a real big indie scene (indie dev scene) in Columbus, Ohio - check out GHOST SONG (I will link the site / his main site below) theres some footage of the game (its not as big or it doesnt have as BIG of a profile as other indies, and little is known) and its totally imitating Metroid (but he openly admits it) Souls-borne-Metroidvania (he says imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, if your gonna do it, do it right) lol...it looks amazing, the way ghosts (mere wisps) sorta fly by...very eerie / alone type feeling, and the soundtrack sounds like something DIsasterpiece would of created...something about indie games having great soundtracks...that really adds to the atmosphere, one could say "its just the feels, and nostalgia" maybe so...but whatever it is...its great lol.
Sorry for the run on (not trolling, just dont space things out that well) heres the link - if your eyes arent bleeding yet lol
(I posted this comment in a specific post, but I also posted it above as a stand-alone-post...just so more people can see the game & its website...way I look at it...the more profile a game gets, the better).
      www.ghostsonggame.com/gs/about/
Current Games I am (either enjoying currently) or ABOUT to enjoy, or have enjoyed, or lOOKing forward to - include (PS this list isnt every indie game ever made just the recent titles that are either newly released or yet-to-release):
      Hollow Knight
      Celeste
Chasm (a game everyone seems to have wanted, or was waiting for, or gave up on b/c we thought it'd never come out, another kickstarter funded project by Team Discord...and finally its coming out soon...)

Man I so love this game, as much as I frequently hate it with a passion. It's never occured to me, that a game constantly lures me into its fascinating and eerie world, only to repel me and spit me out after losing a ton of coins. The music and art style is no doubt one of the best on Switch, if not any system I own. I usually play for a few hours, die a lot, pause for a week or so and engage it again.

Actually "higher beings" in the tutorial stones mean the player not the in-game character. When it says "higher beings these words are for you alone" it means that these words are for humans (aka the higher beings) and not the bugs in the game world.
Btw graphics and value are definitely 20/20. Graphics and artstyle are so characteristic and unique.

I’m 14 hours in and loving this game. My only frustration is trying to avoid spoiling the game for myself by looking up the answers to the million questions you get while exploring the world and obtaining new abilities.

You forgot to mention the game was made with a team of about 3-4 people full-time for 3 years, which is absolutely insane when you see the amount of content in this game! It does not add value to the game itself, but adds a lot more to Team Cherry!

One of my favorite features is what happens when you die. Like dark souls, you drop everything where you die and have to trek back to that spot recover it. But instead of being able to just pick it up, you have to defeat a hostile shade/ghost of yourself. Idk what is it, I can’t put my finger on it... but I think that just has such a nice touch and is so different from other games.

SwitchUp yeah this game is worth the $15 price and maybe more and it is really good. I didn't buy it yet though and instead I'm playing it on my friend's switch whenever I can. I didn't buy it yet because I want a physical copy and I'm trying to save up some money for Octopath Traveler.

As a person that's spent 50 hours JUST on the base game.. Before the 2 recent expansions/dlc's came out. This video perfectly sums up as to why it's the best game/my most favorite game I've ever played in my 27 years of being alive Lol I always get teary eyed when people are finally starting to pick this game up & play it. Along with Ori and the Blind Forest. Those two games deserve soooo much credit & I feel they go overlooked due to being platformers/metroivania games.

IV just purchased Hollow Knight on Switch and I'm very impressed, it may be my go to game 4 metroidvania. I was hesitant at first but now that I'm 5 hours in and the game is hard enough when it needs to be and the other times it's my fault when I die in game. It should hold me over until Dead Cells comes out on the 7th of August

Subscribed! Have to say, your analysis highlights just how much is similar to the best parts of Bloodborne in particular, with a bit of Dark Souls. Bb ditched blocks for attack-focused combat which made you focus on strategy, which made combat hugely enjoyable and I'm really glad they carried that through here! I also appreciate the attacking gaining you healing, also similar to gaining blood vials in Bb. Loving the lore, culture, design, variety, music and value as well. All in all, definitely on my list! Seems like a great one.

What really shocked me about this game was how much of a tour de force it was. While unusual it's not exactly rare to find a game with great gameplay or a great soundtrack or a great story. What is rare is to have all 3 with beautiful graphics as the cherry on top.
