I used to walk a black Labrador for a friend and neighbour. Spirit moved away with his owner thirty miles away and still miss not having the close contact. See him once a year and he remembers me, goes and gets his lead from a toy basket putting it at my feet
I'm moving to Texas in November and me and my family are planning to get a chocolate lab! We also have a dachshund so now she won't be lonely when we leave. Thanks for the tips :)
I have a Black Lab Pittbull mix. He is broken. He hates water. Does this have anything to do with the fact that he’s mixed with Pittbull? He was a rescue from a local no kill shelter. He came to me medicated on Prozac for separation anxiety. I have since weaned him off of it after three years of having him. I’m working with him and the trainer with his separation anxiety.
His fear of water isn’t to do with his breed but will be from a past bad experience with water. (I assume you mean with swimming?) you could consider working with the trainer with this fear in the future if it was something that you wanted to address with him 😊
I have a 19-mo.-old male yellow lab. I did not meet the previous owners but the agent who found him was positive that the previous owners confirmed that this dog is purebred. He has "splotchy" color patterns. A woman stopped me one day & said that she has raised & shown labs, & that my dog is a "champaign" lab, that the splotchy pattern is indicative of champaigne labs. Is that true information?
Good question Joe, about 25% of dogs will be diagnosed with cancer at some stage in their lifetime. For malignant cases (those that spread and are dangerous) 11% of those are melanoma - which occur on the skin, around the toe nails or in the mouth. The ones around the toe nails or in the mouth tend to be more often malignant. I haven’t found any precise data for Labrador but I believe it is less than 1%

My understanding of champagne labs are that they look similar to yellow labs but have a light silvery tone to their coat 😊
@Lord of the Vets Thank you, Lord of the Vets, you have confirmed for me that Charlie is what you described. I appreciate your feedback.
Labs are prone to develop laryngeal paralysis.
It's absolutely heartbreaking 😭

What are the chances of your Labrador getting oral melanoma cancer?
