    Cali, I'm From England and absolutely love root beer and root beer floats.
    My great grandad was a navy captain in our Royal Navy during World War 2, and when he went over to America on deployment, an American Navy Captain taught him how to make a proper root beer float which he then made for me when I was about 5, and I love them to this day 😁

    Also-also, actually-actually, does anyone else mix their icecream with rootbeer so its not soda+ice cream, but more of a root beer shake?
    I dont like the bubbles but enjoy the uniformity of the consistancy of the creamy and refreshing.

    I always was told that with the "finger trick"' it was the sodium from your sweat that dispersed the bubbles. Maybe revisit this again some day, and try adding some salt to the bottom if a cup and also a pinch of salt into the foam.

    • @elanalight5324
      @elanalight5324 4 года назад

      Salt has the same reaction as mentos and sugar when it mixes with soda.

    • @williamanderson5690
      @williamanderson5690 4 года назад

      I was also always told as a kid that it was the salt that helped

    • @torisullivan5290
      @torisullivan5290 4 года назад

      The sweat from your finger tips is a combination of several chemicals. Some by themselves increases the bubbles and some decrease the longevity of the bubbles. To have a root beer float that has no bubbles without removing all carbonation you have to first find out which chemicals do what and layer the inputs of the chemicals to eradicate excess carbonation.

    Cheers from Japan!!! Instead of root beer floats, we Japanese have melon-flavored soda floats(called "cream sodas", also topping the drink with soft serve is more common than adding regular ice cream).

    Chilled root beer and cold cups make less foam because gases are more soluble in colder water. There's more fizz still in the pop instead of it all bursting out when poured.
    Oil trick: _On Food and Cooking_ by Harold McGee notes that this works on the head of beer beer. Root beer often has extra foam stabilizers, and the ice cream stabilizes it further, so the oil does less.
    Lecithin: Pre-dissolve it in a bit of water so you can get it properly mixed into the root beer. Not sure how it will affect the foam though.
