I remember how normal it used to be in racing games to run a reverse layout when we were kids but now the idea makes me really uncomfortable as I have gotten into motorsports.
Sure Why not I was the opposite lol I always played NASCAR games and the idea seemed silly until I started watching WRC and the run most stages both ways
The difference is many of those tracks were designed to work both ways. They lack the switch-back chicanes that suck in the opposite direction and have kerbs in all the right places still.
@@trantuong789 the most absurd version of this came in the 2009 PS2 game "Speed Racer". It only had six circuits, but each had three configurations (shirt, medium, long) and could be run in either direction as well as mirrored, leading to a total of 72 possible layouts!
Uncomfortable? I think it would be hilarious and absolutely possible. Uhm... not possible, only plausible, sorry. I forgot they don't have the guts to actually accomplish this.
An alternative British GP on the Silverstone national circuit might be something insane. Austria was threatening to use part of the old track between what are now turns one and three a few years ago - that might be a nice option if they could do the building work. Plus there are the 878646 configurations of Paul Ricard...

So 320 km/h turning a little to the right blindly followed by falling 50m (feels like it at least) into a left hander that you already need to have turned into before starting to fall followed by a rapid change of elevation which means the collateral force from falling to going over 300 uphill suddenly just kills your head over the course of a race. Sounds like fun count me in

You need to get a reverse layout verified by the local Motorsport association. I believe knockhill is the only track in the UK that is allowed to run a reverse layout at the moment.
@@mihajlovucinic011 apparently Knockhill is going to have a Grade 1 Extension making it suitable for f1. It is going to become longer and more runoff but it would be expensive . Imagine a Scottish Gp.

just a thought: the pit entrance at Austria on the penultimate corner would be problematic as a pit exit because it would disrupt the racing line for any driver on a potential hot lap or just passing by with bad timing
1 circuit in, and you've earned the like. Especially because I can tell you put some time in on getting these laps down, that was incredibly good pace around Catalunya in a way nobody's done it before... backwards.
As a certified professional Italian I think you're both overlooking something huge: reversing Monza could potential lead to every single car surviving turn 1 after the start, something that never happened in this or any parallel universe(expecially online)!

Even if it doesn't work in the real world, somebody should make a reverse Spa or Silverstone for sims. Put kerbs in the right place, maybe change a few wall openings, have the AI go the other way, and fun!

Here's the thing about Monaco, it's a street circuit. Which means barriers can be moved around so it's not so awful in reverse with little in the way of extra cost. Sure, some things like the hairpin and casino wouldn't be able to change all that much, but the approach to the final (now first) corner can be made to work better. Plus, the exit barrier at La Rascasse can be moved so it doesn't try to kill you. Monaco could be completely do-able in reverse.

With Spa, you could possible create slightly longs layout that uses a chicane to go down Raidillon so you don’t flat off. It could rejoin directly onto La Source after a new version of it later on.

The first track I thought of was Misano. I used to run the old layout in my old GTR2 league I participated in (which is now backwards from the current one). Sometimes, i still miss the old layout but the current one is fine.

its a pretty good idea to run some circuits onn reverse also in F1! We did it in Germany on the old Nürburgring already in the 70is, using the track in reverse as special stage on local rallyes! And still every year in late autumn, the classic rallye RKA ( Rallye Köln-Ahrweiler) meets the RING in reverse! Lots of youtube videos can be found, also on my channnel! Wonder how many laps you needed Chris to get a such good flow as in your video...?
Raidillon always (except in 1994) had the possibility for a serious airborne crash in the normal layout. It's a fast and mostly blind corner. They're already going through there with full throttle at over 310 kph, I don't think it would be much worse if they went through there from the other way. Of course it would be an extra 30-40 more kph, but like others suggested, a chicane can solve every problem, and minimise the risk (just like in 94). Spa in reverse is 100% plausible.
Montreal would be really interesting... Overtaking into the little curves that are now right before the hairpin would be crazy. But the 6-7 and 8-9 chicanes would have zero runoff.
All these excepting Monaco look like they'd be pretty fun in sim form, honestly. I wonder how difficult it would be to add reverse layouts to some of these as a mod. Interesting that all of them are original Kunos content in AC. I loved the reversing intertitles, and couldn't help but chuckle at the prominent skid marks on the new exit of Parabolica. well, Abu dhabi is a modern circuit, but that definitely does NOT work in reverse, same goes with France. It may seem like there is a lot of runoff, but if you were to drive it the other way around, then you have no runoff, and the grandstands are way to close most of the time
some small changes to rascasse, swimming pool and sante devote with some better run-off and then you connect up tabac with the tunnel and it might actually produce decent racing
I believe we don’t need a lot of reverse racing, Spain has Jerez, Portugal has Estoril and Portimão, France has Magny-Cours, Germany has Nurburgring and Hockenheim, England’s got Brandshatch and Italy still has Imola, a lot of tracks !!!

I don't get the assertion that Spa's Bus Stop would be worse in reverse. Chicanes are almost always better with the more open apex second, so reversing it would actually be a big improvement. You could also just extend the straight a bit beyond it, and build a chicane intended for the reverse direction. If you're moving walls and such, a few meters of pavement wouldn't be too bad to add. As for Monza, I'd say the chicane just no longer serves a purpose in reverse, and could be skipped.
I'm only 3 minutes into this video, so apologies if this gets mentioned. It's more tricky in reality to run a reversed circuit. All the marbles will need to be cleared, crash barriers will need reconfiguring, the digital flag boards need reversing, kerbs will be all wrong and even the tarmac itself will be a problem. Like a snooker table's felt; tarmac has a "nap", it's laid to work in the direction of travel. Racing tyres will suffer massive thermal degradation, blistering and excessive wear. Nice idea but I can't see it working on safety grounds. That said...I'd love to see it tried. Addendum: street circuits will be OK, when considering the tarmac element.
Im just sayin that i used to do some laps on Bathurst backwards on project cars and going through skyline backwards is just as much fun as going the correct way!!

iirc, toyota once did a test day where they just went up and down radillon. but running a race in another direction is about more than just driving direction.
As Monaco is a street circuit with barriers etc set up specifically for the event they can always be moved slightly if needed. They real issue there is coming down the hill into the last turn, which would be massively fast, breaking possibly not in a straight line, and not a lot of run off iirc?

I am sure that if we will race twice at a race track this will only be made on tracks where different layouts are already possible. Because not one racetrack will change their kerbs on a whole track which would be necessary, just to change it after one race. Every kerb is facing the 'original' direction (If sb. does not know how they look... just check it) so they need to be changed. And due to that reverse direction racing is conpletely out of discussion I think.

I used to run with a squad that would always rip Spa, Silverstone, and the Nordschliefe backwards in LMP1s on GT6. It was loads of fun and chaos.
Catalunya first sector in reverse looks amazing!
backwards is a safety concern because of not enough run-off zones and many walls

I was watching the video that THE RACE did and realized that I had already raced a lot of those circuits on reverse in a few racing games.

It's "variante della Roggia", which translates in "chicane of Roggia" or "Roggia's chicane", you shouldn't shorten in just "della Roggia" (of Roggia)
