I loved running draglines I ran electromagnetic draglines in a scrap yard 12 years eye hand coordination right hand right foot work together as you pull on the lever with your right hand you have to release the break with your right foot witch pull the cable up your left hand pulls the drag cable an your left foot holds the break then there's one more lever that swings push to make a right pull to go left the machines I ran were frum the fifty's American, link belt, an bucyrus Erie try it sometime it's fun 👍
Everyones bashing the guy, but did anyone notice that it looks like he was at the end of the pit, digging out the far side and dumping past his escape? He was not just digging back the cut. Very limited digging area at that moment. Very limited dump zone too. Ease up! Stop bashing just cause you don't understand.
To those saying it's inefficient... You do realise it runs on electricity? These were made because they are more efficient than a face shovel dumping into trucks. Far more efficient. As said, they work better when pulling the bucket up a hill towards them, but even as is, this still walks all over filling 797's with a shovel or excavator.
While the operator may not be the best, the bucket and machine is doing exactly what it is designed to do, keep in mind this thing is also capable of moving it's load many time further than your typical Arm based machine. Drag lines can move more material faster and further than any other machine conveyer belted machines notwithstanding.
My Dad used to run a dragline for Alcoa, used to take me on it from time to time and I used to watch him run it. Man those were good times. I wish I could have taken my kids on one, but Alcoa shut down the mines before my kids were born. So sad. Good memories though.
Anyone know who invented the bucket shape and rope attachment points to give such precise control? I see real magic in carrying the bucket without dumping until you want to. Dragging in toward the machine using the weight of the bucket and teeth for down pressure is not as magical. Try to remember the amount of weight during a fast cycle time with a fully loaded bucket. All in a time when computers were not as common.
why the bucket it self is so small compare to it body?, it think dragline could lift more heavier than that. i see the potential on this beast if someone doing some improvement on it.
To fully understand this seemingly pointless exercise I would recommend watching Monty Python Society for putting things on top of other things. I just checked... it's here.... on youtube.
@@pthompson108 I copied and pasted the Monty Python Society and didn't understand it, a comedian character appeared ... could you give me the correct link (if you find an explanation captioned or translated) I don't know English.
@@pauloh.barreiraremasterrp2576 Hello there brother. Sorry about the language barrier. This is the only clip I could find. ruclips.net/video/LFrdqQZ8FFc/видео.html Unfortunately there is no translation button for this. Yes it is a comedy. Making fun of how upper class people in Britain used to make silly societies about pointless issues. Back in the day before the internet "societies" and "clubs" would and could spring up around just about any little thing or for just about any reason, kind of like how we have so many subreddits. Monty Python always took things to the extreme for their satire, so to poke fun at them they made up one that quite obviously didn't make any real sense to have. Much of the joke lead in was how serious they were about this completely pointless "task" of theirs, and completed by someone pointing out how silly it really was. Hope this helps. Cheers

It is funny, they have no idea how large the drag and hoist cables have to be to manage that bucket when it is full. Nor do they have any idea of what is under the hood of that machine...
who knows these machines, knows that the buckets are very huge , but to let the machine dig at this quarry is sure inefficient. it burns thousands of liters fuel each hour.
It’s not totally electric. The power generated for the machines operation comes via the power grid network. So it’s either powered by coal or nuclear .
I remember seeing one of these buckets on display at Epcot Centre in Orlando in ‘86. Don’t know how it compares with this one. And it was about the only thing interesting in the whole place. Total waste of time and money!
If you can't fill the bucket, then it's too big for the machine! I would have it running over!!! If the hoist and drag cables can't fill that bucket. It don't need to be on the machine. Maybe a smaller bucket, NOT!!!!!

The close-up detail of the bucket and rigging was fascinating. Thanks for posting it. Very arty.

Type in THE 8700, and read the Technical Information on the 8700 dragline

How old are those Draglines& what capacity Bucket, looks around 45 Cubic Mts?
even still, It's a small dump truck load. How else are YOU going to get that muck out the hole?
How many cubic metres could this bucket potentially extract at one pass?
90 Cu Yds
this thing is a fierce dinosaur in another dimension. Hear it's roar~!
Showing that bucket that close... 💘
Take it from one side and put it on the other !! can someone explain the reason !?

i THINK the idea is not so much to move it TO someplace but to move it AWAY from someplace so...20 yards away or 100, its away

There were two 1260’s at Ibstock. The closest to the 1450 was Big Geordie - a 1550
I still run a dragline ...marion 8200
It wasn't designed to dig that way, thats why its so inefficient.
8700 before the repaint I believe
This one looks like 65 yard bucket.
Great Video.
Dana Johnson if you had to fill that bucket with a wheelbarrow you'd be there for eternity '???
looks like fun for about a week.
Great audio captured there. Too bad the operator wasn't as good at capturing material...
Earthwork at Neom project handling with the machine.

Must be a big hood release lever!
but the other half is approx 400 tons - do that by shovel :D
Would anyone like to explain to MrDriftspirit that there's no fuel in this machine?
Are you stupid ? Coal powers these things .
thats an operator, nice
Veri gud!!!
Damn... not too big ? :D
this is Big Muskie ?
no this is a Marion 8700
They run on electric power.
They run on electric power which is generated by coal , or maybe nuclear .

Must have been training a new operator, the load sizes and passes didn't look too efficient.
this is a marion ?
yes
@sniperin223 nao entendo nada oque tu falo
Man, what an apparently inefficient waste of time. It seems to leave behind and loose at least half of it's load...
