  • Just an example of how we do class. (With 6-3 class)
    This is a very basic day, mostly practicing keywords and sentences while using activities from the book with changed or added parts or rules.

    wow.. i would say this is NOT typical English class in Korea. The students are super cool. They seem very motivated and have very good English language knowledge. That rarelly happends in real world. Can you tell me why is that? Why are your students all good?

      Kind of unrelated, but in my French classes, the teachers almost _always_ have to pick on students, because no one wants to volunteer to participate. Some students participate, but it's only for the marks, and they're usually the top students. I bet most of us are taking classes because we have to, and not because we want to, therefor everyone doesn't bother to try much.

      I still work at this school and in the same class room. The kids are usually good in my classes, but looking back this group of kids was one of the best! These days I go to their homeroom to teach~ (cuz of the virus and all) I don't use this channel often so very late reply ahaha.

    In my Academy, kids who are in grade 2 are already required ro write a 3-paragraph story. The teachers basically write most of it out for them...and it is a fill-in-the-blank situation.(which I basically fill out for them) I think a lot of it is pointless T.T Many students cannot follow... and there isn't enough time to have them come up with their own answers for a lot of the lessons. I wish I taught lessons more appropriate for their actual English level. I also wish my one year in this academy passes soon.

      Yup! Same here. Hagwons generally have a higher standard than public schools. Parents usually feel that public schools aren't sufficient so they send them there to give them better opportunities for their future. :)

      We were both nervous from being filmed I think. He was the best student that year so I was use to him being correct. I knew he knows how to spell the word haha. Regardless I always value praise over correcting. (low level students avoid participating if I nitpick over everything they do wrong) He still keeps in touch, already 2nd year highschool. I work at an elementary school 10min south of seoul, still there~ (Zoom classes + in person half classes now though hehe)

    But what's the point of having a translating teacher?

    • @Neekoolos
      @Neekoolos  6 лет назад +12

      I'd say they are key in helping the lesser skilled students, because in public schools the students are a wide range of levels. For the low-level students class would feel daunting and demotivating if they didn't have the Korean instruction.

    How do you find lesson prep and delivery? Hows the 6th graders in your experience? Im going to be in the JLP august 2018 intake and feel nervous about the daily classes. Thank you for sharing this video, i deeply appreciate it. :)

      Shelly Rodney i've done it for 5 years now, and i love it :)
      In public schools you get tons of prep time. Some teachers dont like 6th graders, but they are my fav. Just cant be too childish, they prefer real world content
