    This is an excellent tutorial. I've cleaned mine before, but never really understood how it worked. I had also seen a *guess* on how to set it on another video. I followed that and screwed mine all the way in, then came out 1 turn. But like I said, that was kind of a guess. It makes much more sense that it would be screwed all the way in. I might put a super small dab of high temp thread locker on there. I actually made a tool for this out of a piece of steel that will go in both notches at the same time. Works great. Thanks for the excellent video. Finding someone to work on these cars who understands them, is getting really hard to do. Nice to have a helping hand on the interwebs!!!

    Thanks for this video, I own an 87 honda civic si hatchback and it now idles correctly. That plastic retainer had worked its way 3 threads away from the top of the valve. I knew mine wasnt performing correctly and there arent any replacements readily available so I delt with the surge for quite some time. I really appreciate it!

    But before you open the fast idle valve, after the car warmed up, you need to check if there is an air suction trough the fast idle valve whole bottom one with your finger or fingers on the throttle body after you remove the air hose, if there is air suction, so the fats idle valve is the problem, if there is not, the idle control valve is the problem, of course you need to check if there is a vacuum leak somewhere before you condemn the idle air controle valve: my 99 Honda crv was idling high at drive almost 990 to 1000 RPM, but the idle surge up and down at park or neutral, but the problem wasn't the fast idle valve , but it was the idle air controle valve, I replaced it and the problem fixed.
    This second time almost the same problem happen hight idle almost 970, but the idle surge up at park or neutral and stabilize back at high idle of course, I checked the air flow with my finger on the throttle body after the car warmed up and it was air suction trough the fast idle valve whole, the same suction power whether the car cold or warm, the fast idle valve is dead it doesn't move anymore, ( I knew that after adjusting that plastic cycle with flat screw driver but no change ) so I closed it and problem fixed till I buy new OEM one or buy the whole good used throttle body may be on eBay.

    I have an 86 civic hatchback dx. When you start it, it idles high af to start. After a bit you can blip the accelerator and it drops down to a good normal steady idle. Pretty new to owning it. Is this normal? Or is there something I should look at to adjust. No lights or codes etc. Engine only has 65k original miles on it. Thank you in advance

    • @NaytonTech
      @NaytonTech  7 месяцев назад +1

      That one is a little harder, I don't think that has much for computer control, it's carbureted which is a completely different beast. As far as I know it's fairly common for those to do that - kind of an auto choke to start the car then when you blip the throttle it goes to a more normal idle. I am not super familiar with much before the 88 Civics.

    I have a 98 Honda CRV my problem is it idles high at about 1400 but then it'll idle down to about 11:00 then I had a computer check on it and it's saying the O2 sensor is bad Bank 1 do I believe that or try the throttle adjustment thing you just did in this video

      @@herbiedunlap5534 My next move is to change the fuel filter. If that doesn't work, I'll inspect the fuel pump. I'll change it if it's bad. After doing these, Remove the Radio(back-up) fuse for about 15 sec, minimum then put it back on. The fuse is on the Under - hood fuse box.
      Tomorrow and the next. Hope it works!
      I already did all the valves outside and inside, checked if there are any vac leaks, and even checked my throttle body sensors including the IAC and FIT valves. This is my last easy way out.
      I'd hate it to be a transmission issue.

      @@teaspoon87 It shouldn't. If your idle is too low after this adjustment, you should use your idle screw to get it back in spec.
