Wasteland 3 Lore - The Wives of the Patriarch

  • Today, we're taking another rambling romp through obscure Wasteland lore! You may recall that back in Episode 33 I got a bit hung up on some bits of lore about The Patriarch's former wives, so I thought it was time we finally sat down and gave it a proper look.
I might have gotten a little carried away.
(Also, I really wanted to call this video "Grave Concerns," but then no one would have any idea what it was actually about.)
While I did back the original crowdfunding campaign on Fig, I'm not otherwise associated with InXile or Wasteland 3 in any way. I just love wending my way through the wastes, and obsessing over trivial bits of lore!
You can find out more about Wasteland 3 here:

Happy new year all! Thanks for the lore RR. A Directors Cut of W3 is inevitable I believe, I hope they do restore some of this content back to the game. Not just to clear up some of the back story, but also to add more places to explore ... a reason to return to the game.
As it stands the game does lack content, even using your Charisma character builds and completing as many quests as possible and exploring every inch of the map, none of my Rangers got anywhere close to level 50. Also, the "Explorer" perk under Survival was something I pursued in W2, but never bothered with in W3 as I am fairly certain I discovered every location by myself. We need some more areas to explore! There's several landmarks on the map as well that really does appear to be locations you should be able to visit? Some does unlock eventually when you trigger specific quests, but others seem to be unused map markers only.
The game lore combined with the cut content you previously discussed does make for very interesting content, so thanks for that. Also enjoyed seeing how recruiting Vic into Team November plays out. I was aiming for a "Moral High Ground" play through, but did actually consider taking that psycho with me :-)

Wish the game was longer. Hopefully when they make the fourth installment we get to fully rebuild the Rangers.

Can't believe I found this so late, always thought the game had a family feud setting and that was the main focus of the game, SPECIALLY after getting to vic, now you can pretty much sum W3 as "where ***king around can get you".
Never did investigate much on the game itself, always like FO games (the older FO games) and their scripts best, but if a director's cut ever came out fixing the cut content (A la FO2) they sould definitely cover how it's all more than likely a big family feud spanning over the years and how the rangers end up expanding their influence and forming the ranger state., all 'cause I like to think that my rangers ended up staying in colorado sending help to arizona, one eventually becoming General and unifying both Arizona and Colorado, but I digress, plus that doesn't really sound so ranger like.

Its rare in games that a family comes across as nearly as messed up as the Wade family from FEAR. Danke for doing this video, it was very interesting.

Only one problem with the timeline: it's been stated multiple times in Wasteland 2 and 3 that it's actually closer to 150yrs post-War/post-Apocalypse, not 100. Saying it's only been 100 was likely a writing oversight by the devs, but without multiple corrections being made to 3 to add 50 years to the dates, it's an irreconcilable contradiction/anomaly.

    • @RetconRaider
      @RetconRaider  10 месяцев назад

I think the crux of the problem lies in some of the rewrites they did while Wasteland 3 was in development.
It does seem like they originally wanted the Patriarch to be younger, but somewhere along the line they realized the issues it caused and hastily shuffled some numbers around.
Unfortunately, as with many other plot points in Wasteland 3, the changes they made midstream weren't reflected in some of the other things they'd already written.

Can you please do a video on the Eastern Plains Gangs (Scar Collectors, Los Payasos, and The Godfishers)
It would be fun to hear your thoughts on them and dive into their backstory, role, and current activities.
I have 2 questions. How do the Scar Collectors(or other gang) hold up to Fallouts Raider Factions?
And which gang would you choose to join the Rangers if possible. It can be any gang, they turn to your side and help the Desert Rangers forever.
    Edit
Love this video. Really want more Wasteland 3 lore videos in general

As far as i know there are only a couple characters that give any history; the Indian from the Duckett quest, and the guy inside patriarchs secret prison on the respirator for God fishers, and iron clad cordite gives some backstory for the scar collectors

Just bad luck. RUclips decides what ads go in what slots, and it changes all the time. Some advertisers do skippable ads, others don't.
That aside, it should have just been two ad slots. One at the beginning and one about halfway through. That's my standard layout for 40-minute videos.

I really find the story of wastland 3 to be pretty bad. Especailly since this kinda proves my suspicions that it has a virtue signaling purpose instead of actually being good.

To me it was to short and left to many unanswered question. Like why can you get messages from the Red Scorpion Militia? Why do we get Russian messages sometimes? It seems as if this game was a warm up to the next one. Like how Borderlands 3 is supposed to prepare you for the war that would happen in the Borderlands 4.
