Great presentation, but how would you setup a project where the ARC is just in 2d xrefs (divided by floors)? Make a element for each floor, then attach those to constructs by trade? Or is there a better way to include them in the project browser?
You could still make them Constructs and they will look correct for plan views. They would not show correctly for elevations though. I once had a client who did all of their equipment in 2D Constructs but used MEP for Duct, Piping, etc. It looked perfectly fine - but none of the equipment was in reports and the duct and piping would show as not connected to the equipment. That was acceptable to them since they did not care about anything but the duct work and piping that they were responsible for.

If you look at XREFS in the AutoCAD Help Files you will see there are two different ways to place an XRef - Overlay or Attached. This is automatically handled in the Project Navigator. If you need further information, the AutoCAD Help file will explain the difference between the two types.
Incredibly detailed, confusing, not "real world". I get my architectural from architect, including TB, I then have electrical and what not to add. Can you please show HOW to bring in these non-navigator ACAD files and create a project? I like to be organized and want to use the software's capabilities
In the Project Navigator on the Constructs tab, I use Elements for all Client and Vendor files. That way they can be easily accessed as an Xref if necessary.
@@Hagerman Quick response. I thought Constructs were "models"/dwgs and Elements were "static" as in Title Blocks and grid lines. Am I mistaken? First small multi-story building that I can play with coming up.
@@Meche697 True, but because Elements are not included in Views or Sheets it makes them a nice storage location for the client and vendor drawings if you just want them to show up in the Project Navigator. While I have seen other users do this, generally, I only put them there if I want to Xref them in to the Constructs. Otherwise, I store them in another Project folder in Windows and do not include them in the Project Navigator. It’s really a “what works best for you” call.
@@Hagerman again, fast response and thank you. Architect is NOT in 3D. I'm re-learning ACAD and trying to use MEP to help me out. New issue with MEP is content and where to find newer items. Looking at a condo and cannot find "small" 4x6 diffusers for a bathroom. I fudged in a register, not round connection. Everything seems to go Revit and I don't need that
