  • In this video I install my Roadster Sport "Race" axle back exhaust. This exhaust was purchased from Goodwin Racing about 2 years ago for my old 2016 Miata Sport. Today I walk you through installing it on my 2018 Miata Club.

    Just installed. Soo nice to swap out the exhaust. It was a workout but really appreciate the advice on the soapy water.

      Nice work! The soapy water definitely helps. Learned that from Greg @TheCarPassionChannel many years ago!

      Bret Snyder unfortunately my Miata is totaled as of a couple months ago 😭. But what I can say is that this muffler sounded amazing inside the car. No drone at all, good crisp sportscar sound and never overly loud. My girlfriend and I drove this car on a 5,000 mile roadtrip and never had an issue with sound. In my opinion it’s literally the perfect exhaust for an ND.

      @@ShiftyIntentions OH NO! What happened?? --scratch that...I just checked your channel. I actually came across your video a few days ago. I didn't realize that was your Miata until just now. Sorry to hear that. Do you mind going into a little detail on how loud it is? I'm thinking more along the lines of upset neighbors if it's obnoxiously loud. It's hard to tell from a video; it's kinda something I feel I'd need to hear in person. If it's not OVERLY loud, it's definitely something I'll consider.

    • @ShiftyIntentions
      @ShiftyIntentions  4 года назад +2

      Bret Snyder definitely not loud enough to upset the neighbors, but it will make them jealous when they hear the cold start before leaving the garage. Its not very loud if you keep your foot out of it. But it sounds amazing when you put your foot into it. You wouldn’t regret it at all, trust me. When I had the car on track multiple times there were still people that said it was quiet. Compared to all of the straight piped Hondas and other stuff it was still pretty quiet.

      Shifty Intentions Alright, you convinced me. Thanks for your videos, those track videos were great. I hope you get into another Miata soon. The 2020 announcement is just around the corner.

    They recommend you replace the gasket at connection also theirs pliers for $20 that make the hanger disconnect easy as pie, no soap needed.

    How do you feel about the sound level on long drives. How does it sounds with the top up vs down. I used to have the ISR exhaust on my NB2, I loved the sound but it would batter your brain a good bit on an all day drive. Going to the Dragon and back was an all day event for me. Current car is (2019 club convertible 6-speed with some track prep and carbon fiber intake)

    • @ShiftyIntentions
      @ShiftyIntentions  2 года назад +3

      The Roadstersport Race is far and away the best Axle-back for these cars. The big helmholtz chamber cut out all drone. I drove this car 5,000 miles to California and back with my girlfriend and neither of us had any issue with sound level top up or down. The ISR has the same overall level of sound at Wide open throttle, but has tons of drone because it has no helmholtz chamber. Definitely try the Roadstersport Race, I don’t think you’ll regret it.
      As a side note, the only think I would change if I did it again would be having a shop weld on a 3” dual tip rather than the small tip that comes on the exhaust. I just always wished the tip was a little cooler looking.

    This with stock midpipe? I'm considering it with a Borla race midpipe, but if it's this loud completely stock, I'll probably go with the street or super Q. I'm hunting for those pops and bangs.

    • @ShiftyIntentions
      @ShiftyIntentions  Год назад

      Sorry I just noticed this comment. I installed this with the stock midpipe and really didn’t get any pops and bangs. But this is 100% the best sounding axle-back with an otherwise stock exhaust.

    What ramp did you use? Unsure of which to buy. Ideally one I can lift the front end of the car as well as the back

    • @ShiftyIntentions
      @ShiftyIntentions  11 месяцев назад

      I am just using some of the universal heavy duty rubberized sort of ramps you can get from Autozone or wherever else. I think Gorilla is a brand that most people know, but mine are a similar version from an off brand.

    Does yours leak water from the location of the gasket in the middle?

    • @ShiftyIntentions
      @ShiftyIntentions  5 лет назад

      Best fun affordable car mx5ND not that I know of, no. But honestly I haven’t really checked either. I tightened it down very tight so I think its unlikely it would leak.

    Could I get a lightweight muffler that is quiet as stock please? Quieter than stock would be even better. 🔥
    I really want to reduce weight. It's OK with me if people think I have an electric Miata. I need to hear myself think.

    • @ShiftyIntentions
      @ShiftyIntentions  Год назад

      Basically any aftermarket muffler will be at least as loud, or slightly louder than the stock muffler. Best bet would be the Roadstersport Super-Q from Goodwin Racing.

    Since the exhaust takes up less space underneath, is the underside aerodynamically affected? Does it create any stability issues at higher speeds? I watched a video of someone installing a Verus rear diffuser and claims it helps with the above issues due to smaller exhausts

    • @ShiftyIntentions
      @ShiftyIntentions  3 года назад +1

      I just responded to your comment on the sound check video! But basically I would say I didn't notice anything, even on track. But my car was almost completely stock and never saw speeds over around 115 on track (we have no long straightaways at the tracks I routinely drive).
