Very succinct. It reminds me very much of Silent Hill 2's story, which is driven by exactly that irrational, impossible desire to reacquire something already lost and the hope to hope again. Very few horror games since have captured that ephemeral, subliminal feeling and drive. I count Signalis among them.
@@ikosabre It's been years and years, maybe since the first Dark Souls, that I've played a game that has actively lingered in my mind even weeks after beating it, Signalis is definitely something special and it's a shame it's gone a bit under the radar. Nah fam. The moment I saw Elsters eyes not moving en profil in that scene from the beginning after activating I knew she was done for. From the get go I knew that the Devs put in meticulous effort in tiny details so naturally they would have animated her biomechanical eyes "moving" like in every form of media involving machines activating. This trope focusing on the eyes adds to the human aspect of a machine. They didn't move and Elster looked dead in her eyes from the very beginning. Something bad. Something not right. Barely noticable yet Instills a sense of low key dread. Brilliant.
Even though I don't fully understand the timeline and the story, the game makes it crystal clear that these characters love each other to death and then some. F*ck dude, I just want them to be happy...
Timeline is "relatively" straight forward. Game starts during a fresh start > Elster enters Sierpinski created from the memories of people Ariane knew, her reality warping abilities affect everyone, including the Gestalts, who just disintegrate when Arianes memory of them dissolves. > Elster reaches the Red Gate returning to the Penrose. > Elster fails to open the hatch, and passes out > we re-live the 3000th cycle anniversary between Elster and Ariane. > Elster gets back up and meets 512(herself) and a cryopod full of flesh. 512 died before she could keep her promise. Taking parts from herself, our Elster repairs herself, becoming 512 again. We then experience another cycle reset, one even more deteriorated than the one before. > we face Falke > We return to the Red Gate, we kill Adler > in all but two cases we reset. During Death we end the cycle. During the Lily Ending Elster creates her own reality for herself.
@@CrestOfArtorias the time lines change randomly, even before the second elster we play as loses her arm before we get the fake out ending if you pay attention to the photo it has changed again from Alina Seo back to Ariane Yeong, at some point before the first fake ending the Timeline changed again, we really can't be sure of anything in that game Edit; I believe the photo changes after the elevator incident, which at least in my interpretation makes me believe the elster we play as at the start didn't make it out of there alive and the one we play after is the first one to make it out alive from there, that elster is looking for Ariane instead of Alina
@@Talulah_Artorius No, but that doesnt matter, what matters is the narrative timeline. Meaning we piece together the timeline based on the things we experience since there never is any true timeline revealed in the game.

I see the artefact ending as being able to be interpreted as a happy ending, it isn't really clear what happens it's more how you view it, there is hope for them to be happy
@@razortoaster8308i think the artifact ending is more a what if the Penrose didn't crash, and then elster and Ariane dying due the starving or different reasons, that's why the room where elster and ariane are dancing is so destroyed, maybe a last dance before death (that's the way of how I see the artifact ending)
@@LuisFlores-gw4xqa happier interpretation is that the artifact ending turns the nightmare into a lucid dream, Ariane, the real Ariane being the Red eye looking down at the dream world, like a lucid dreamer viewing would look at their own dream less like a prison and more like a their own world at their fingertips. Ariane takes control of the dream and her bioresonance and her first act in her own stage is to repair her body and dance with Elster. The Ariane that is dancing with Elster is the one from the cryopod but no longer appears to be sick and dying but filled with vigor, for her to do that would be in character for her, she never was one with great ambitions and even with godly powers at her fingertips she remains the same woman who: loves to read, draw and dance, especially with the woman she loves.

Or IS it just a bio-machine? Also, does the Elster unit's affection toward Ariane is based on her feelings and personality, or is just a consequence of her programming to aid her owner however she needs, even emotionally. There are many questions and different answers to them. Everyone can interpret it however they want. There's not much indication that replikas are kept following orders by having them programmed into their brains so much as they're controlled by the Falke unit spying on their thoughts and intentions.
Beautiful. Hearing this play in *Falke's* room is it's own sort of tragedy, almost. It is a romantic way to put it, but with her notes, drawings, tone of being... simply saddening. Works well, as i already said elsewhere about something else.
And also more methaphoric and poetic, I asume, with a more deeply emotional meaning, in fact I think that the reason why the history a long the game is so unclear, it's because they don't want mostly explain to you in a clearly way, instead, they don’t want you to explain too much and feel everything, and through the feelings you intend to continue advancing in the narrative. This music makes me feel so much. Mainly warmth and nostalgia for a lost loved one. Though they not remain, their love is always still there. To have a love so special that it lingers after death…there’s no words to describe that but this track comes close.
Not surprising, Elster's memories, specifically 512's are bleeding into her mind, blurring the line between to two persons. Falke is fixed on that memory and their last dance, thats why she tells our Elster that they will never dance again, but unlike our Elster Falke is angry that Ariane doesnt want to dance anymore and instead want everything to end. Only after we kill Falke, we receive the metaphorical blessing of a piece of our soul, 512's memories, to go on, hence her comment "we are whole again".
Good to know I'm not the only one who let this dialogue piece go on for a good 10 minutes. Words cannot describe how I felt playing this game, simply a piece of art.
What's sadder for me is that "die toteninsel" can be heard in this theme. Considering where the latter music is featured (and named after), it's just depressing.
I played a game, lol. Yes, I played well, that's not the point. I insulted someone on my team to death (threats). After the game, (a win), this person added me. I thought she was going to insult me, or express how stupid I was. I deserved it. I treated this human in the worst possible way. By asking him to die. We added, he said thank you for part of it because I'd played well. I apologized for my behavior, it should have stayed there. But we talked. And from that, as we went along, we complimented each other on our human qualities. Wishing each other emotional, professional and, above all, human success. That's how I wished this person a great life, with no ulterior motives, no falsehoods, and with all sincerity. I hope he will have unconditional love, and that he will vibrate in the eyes of his love. That she'll take him in her arms, and that he'll be able to weep freely, for all those horrible moments that will now be a thing of the past. It's funny how, starting from the worst possible relationship, from the most horrible first contact, our discussion led to sincere love. I'm not a good person. I know that, I know that having lost the most important person in my life gives me no excuse. Not for this kind of behavior, not for the fact that I don't have enough time to talk. Since his disappearance, I've been nothing. No longer a man, I'm just an insignificant, impotent man. I no longer have any consideration, even for my brother who is ill, I don't care. They can all die, at least it'll be a bit quieter. I miss her, she was the true architecture of a boundless passion. She was purity, so beautiful, so pretty; that all criteria of beauty, stars, actresses seem fadent, ugly, false. My love was all that could be authentic. She had the best of personalities, the most fantastic, all her tastes and passions in fantasies that had nothing frivolous about them. Her feelings, her way of confronting the world, there's nothing more courageous. She's been through a thousand difficult things, and yet she's so strong. She inspires me, more than that, I admire her. I'm so happy to have been able to caress her skin. I'm so happy to have been able to caress her skin, to have remembered it, to have spent so many hours taking care of her body. I'm proud to remember the taste of her lips. I remember those moments of laughter in front of the mirror, those precious moments when her hair was done. Elle. All my words, everything I did for her, meant nothing, she always told me it was more than she ever had. I would have turned off the sun, to show her how much her light illuminates me. I'm so grateful. I hate you for leaving. I want to be in your arms again, once more. I want you to dry my tears. I want to die, tomorrow, tonight so I won't be without you. To this old love, Sayonara.
I think some how the promise ending isn't the true one I mean if u play the game again then its possible to get the lily ending but for ur first run ever its imposible so that means that Elster sacrifices everyone in the cycle so that she can live this dream of eternity love with Ariane but even then it's incomplete at least for the brief seconds wee se it Like Ariane room its all crapy and broken + her pajama or dress is dirty with blood or just dirty And it makes me sad no matter what we do what Elster do even if we try breaking the game secrets they can't be truly happy it's either Elster doing her promise again and again or sacrificing everyone for eternity just for some uncompleted world (I'm sorry if it's kinda confusing to read but English is not my main language)
Well the death ending is the only one that actually ends the suffering of everyone, including Elster and of course Ariane. This represents true love, being willing to let someone go even though you feel like you cant go on without them. The Lily ending is the one where only Elster can be happy, the game makes this quite clear and because Elster created a new reality, one in which no other thing besides the Penrose, a memory of Ariane and herself exist, the cycle can never be broken. This ending represents love that is self-serving and obsessive, to not be able to let go, even if that is what needs to be done. The Memory ending represents a similar theme, though far less negatively inclined. It is the story of a lover who is willing to brave hell only to see her love once more in order to be happy and die. There is a selfish component here but its not as selfish as the Lily ending. The Leave ending of course is the ultimate portrayal of weakness, indicated by the fact that Elster doesnt even face Ariane, even though she is INSIDE the Penrose.
To love is to give what you don't have. This is the vision of the other as someone unique, new and exceptional, who deserves the best from us, and not to project old erroneous patterns from the past on him.
Artefact ending is basically super meta, it is like divine intervention that breaks the very rules of the universe just to make these 2 happy and stay beside each other just for a lil longer, only way to get this ending is extensive community teamwork and going waaaay outta the way to get a bitterseeet conclusion. it is more like a reward to the fambase/community if they emotionally connect woth them and really really wanna see them together again.

After all this shit i played through, when i hear these themes my heart rip apart everytime💔
This music makes me want to go to sleep and not wake up for a very, very long time
my goty this year
I played a game, lol.
To this old love,
Sayonara.

Pls can u make something similar, but with Falke theme, and then bossfight music?
I think some how the promise ending isn't the true one I mean if u play the game again then its possible to get the lily ending but for ur first run ever its imposible so that means that Elster sacrifices everyone in the cycle so that she can live this dream of eternity love with Ariane but even then it's incomplete at least for the brief seconds wee se it
Like Ariane room its all crapy and broken
+ her pajama or dress is dirty with blood or just dirty
And it makes me sad no matter what we do what Elster do even if we try breaking the game secrets they can't be truly happy it's either Elster doing her promise again and again or sacrificing everyone for eternity just for some uncompleted world
(I'm sorry if it's kinda confusing to read but English is not my main language)
Artefact ending is basically super meta, it is like divine intervention that breaks the very rules of the universe just to make these 2 happy and stay beside each other just for a lil longer,
only way to get this ending is extensive community teamwork and going waaaay outta the way to get a bitterseeet conclusion. it is more like a reward to the fambase/community if they emotionally connect woth them and really really wanna see them together again.
i am surviving off this and train ride atm
Does anyone know the name of the music they dance to?
@@yv1001 Thank you! Thank you!, i've been looking everywhere for it!

I blame The Witcher 3 for my white haired female fetish
When I first saw this scene: aw they've been together for 8 years.
When I learned about the 3rd phase of the Penrose program: 🫠
This one doesn't loop so well cause of that fade out.
