Also, yard saling this weekend, every time, per watching Pete, asked "can you do a little better on price?" or "how much for all these item together?". Over a year, this is gonna save me alottamoney. Also, per another video, made a cut-down custom fit box, which saves me $$ shipping to Amazon. Thanks Pete.
Pete, I am really enjoying watching your videos. I have been listening to Scavenger Life for 2 years, and finally got started with Ebay (Been doing FBA for almost 3 years, on track to sell about 7000 items this year). Just started Ebay 2 mos ago, and have about 60 items listed, with 6 sales totalling $600. My goal is to get up to 500 items by the end of the year, which is a little tough, as I have a regular 40 hr job + 20+ hrs per week AZ, so we will see, I think I am already developing a good eye for ebay items, as I Been watching videos, reading blogs etc pretty much whenver I have free time. I think the stuff you share is super valuable. I really like that you get in the trenches - show yard saling, dumpster diving, etc. But what I really like is that you increased your ASP and I am going to try to follow that plan. Just got back from a Surplus Store and among my scores is this heavy machine, an oscillator, that weighs about 60 lbs, so this video comes in handy. I wanted to ask a few things - what % of your business is AZ and what % is Ebay (vs Store and other income), what is your aprx inventory size for Az? and for Ebay (both stores)? Oh, by the way, I also just watched the video of what you do with stuff that hasnt sold, and I am trying that also (99 cent auction with higher shipping to help cover cost)....question...do you run a 7 day auction or does it even matterz? Do you reup the auction if if doesnt move the 1st time? Well, just want to really thank you for all you share, and all the help you provide. I know personally, I have already implemented at least 3-4 ideas from your videos, that I think will really improve my business. Thanks alot.
Can't get better than Double boxes. I had a high quality frame shop & used the same system. Nothing broken. I too Dumpster dived for packing materials; HEY Recycle!
thanks for the video pete. you are the reason i started selling big electronics. alot of people are scared or lazy to pack big electronics but i think its worth it.
Well it's about time you listened to my request Pete. Very Informative, Not that it couldn't have been a little bit better. Thanks for your blood sweat and tears... Angelo
Excellent video with excellent detail! I'll have to look up those box dimensions and weight for shipping in Canada. Its likely triple the cost. You America folks don't realize how blessed you are for shipping costs 😃
Want to see some really cheap rates look at those coming from China.... Stuff coming from Canada has high rates to the US as well - I've seen some books that should cost about $5 to ship have shipping as high as $20 - it does seem to be a real problem :-(
Good tips you have for packing . A box inside a box seems to be the best way .I have never had a problem that method . Insurance is a must . Do you have a vyd on packing an antique trunk ? I find them at estate sales and on craigslist for very low prices .They do not get much money in my area ,but they seem to have buyers out west .
I am a car dealer by day and ebayer by night. That fire truck is worth $15,000 wholesale at auction in that condition. Of course, I am not looking at it in person, but ones that are junked out with headlights, ladders, etc. missing bring $10,000 on a bad day.
Warms my heart to see you use these heavy-duty, but beat all to hell, boxes! I always worry that it's unprofessional to re-use boxes, even if they are physically in good condition.
One thing i would add is to put the unit into a plastic bag such as a trash bag and twist the opening tape down to seal from the elements such as rain then bubble wrap around that just to be safe.I do this with everything i ship especially electronics great videos keep them coming
Ripping poor people off isn't always the best thing to do... I guess if the guy's dumb enough to not put it on Ebay asking at least 25% of it's worth then it's his loss.
I don't use Fed EX ever, the closest place was very rude to me when I inquired about shipping a large package. USPS does fine until it gets big and heavy, or just big. Sometimes the weight isn't a lot, but the size is the problem. Over a certain size, USPS charges a surcharge. UPS treats me right, and is often way cheaper on the big stuff even if USPS would take it.
On your work desk you showed an APC surge protector. I had one that was really similar to it on ebay and a customer informed me that there was a recall on majority of those types due to a fire hazard issue. Something to look into as they will replace it will a brand new one of a newer model.
Shipping heavier items has always been a problem for me especially finding out who is the cheapest. As far as postage I don't return any of it to the buyer cause I try to stay close to how much it's going to cost me and a little extra is just packing fee to me. Thanks for sharing the video and the shipping tips.
Hey Pete, the word is corrugated, not perforated. Perforated kinda applies, but not really it means it has holes in it. Corrugated means it has the honeycomb like design inside the outer skin. Okay, back to the vid.
1st let me say sorry for the rambling on and on! 2nd! Never say never PETE! I don't care how well it is packed if something like that is dropped it can get damaged. Sad to say it happened to me with a glass faced Macintosh amplifier it was about a 55 pound box about 24x30x9 inches. I used Styrofoam for all four corners of the amp , bubble wrapped it and filled all voids with packing peanuts then put it in another box with a 3 inch gap all around filled it with more packing peanuts. both I used almost two rolls of tape on both boxes. The buyer received it broken with the the coroner glass face of the amp was cracked. Now the nightmare just began USPS did not want to cover the damage since they said they say "no visible damage to the box" that I must of sent it that way!! WHAT THEY ARE THEY EFFEN CRAZY! I believe the box had so much tape hard to see the where the impact was my guess a comer of the box where the glass was broken. If you drop any 55lb item with glass chances are it would get damaged. I'm 100% sure package was not handled with care! WELL!!!! after fighting with ebay for like 6 months they ebay did refund me since USPS did not total was about $650. I did take photos of my packing on that item.
Good morning I have a question say if you are at a Flea market thrift store or a garage sale and you want to buy lick tronics from someone how can you tell it's dielectrics work if you do not have electricity What should you do if you still want to buy the electronics such as maybe a video game system To Resell on ebay
Its absolutely ok if you come in under the shipping to keep the difference. If you go over your shipping, you can't say...oh well it cost me more than I expected, so now I have to charge you more. So, if you come in under...its yours...of course not to mention the time you take to pack and the materials. However, that point is moot because you don't get that every time you sell. If that's your logic, you have to charge more on top of your shipping cost every single time to compensate for your time and materials in shipping.
Great video! what do you choose in your listing under "shipping method" to be able to choose whatever is best for you after the buyer buys your product? thanks!
Pete,It's much easier to have the item/s all packed up and weighed when you list your items. The customer can compare shipping options right in the listing. Then you don't chance miss calculating shipping costs and losing money.
Hey pete, I'm a full-time student and work for UPS part time. When I am at work and read the shipping labels, I noticed that some of these labels don't correctly match up with the actual weight. for example, I get packages that are labeled 20lbs but they feel like they're 50lbs. So maybe you can possibly lie about the weight?
NREY26 can't you flag those items? For that much desparity? Seems like they should be weighed. Assuming it's a common theme those customers /shipping should be dinged the extra $$.
Even if he fudged the numbers a little bit it's likely to wind up in "irregular" jail - all the packages that are too long, heavy, weight all on one end or aren't a tidy box are considered to be "irregular and get treated very poorly - adding to the abuse is ones marked 50lbs and are way over that. I worked the primary sort and unload for a few years at UPS. I'll be amazed if the package gets there in one piece or if does it'll look like it's been through a war zone.
I noticed UPS charging me additional shipping even after I input all the correct details. For this reason I tend to use Fed-Ex. Anyone else noticed this??
Hi Pete, if the baseball player signed photograph is still available for sale I will be interested in buying it from you for $75.00...let me know if it is still available.
Love your channel. But I would annoyed if you sent a CJ amp that I purchased for a grand, to me like that. It should have been completely covered in plastic or a thick clear plastic bag. Picking out small pieces out of the heat sinks is annoying after unpacking. Anyways, love the content.
What I want to know is how you price the buy it now stuff. Seems to me if they sell that fast, with no lower offer, you're probably too low in the first place. I know you can get comparisons, but so many idiots sell too cheap, so comparisons are not always worth going by. Depending on the condition of the item, (less if more used, more if unused and looks it) I generally start at half the new price. Sometimes I'll go two thirds of the new price if the item is extra nice, in the box, so forth. However, most of the time I sell vintage stuff where there is no new price, and just because some idiot let an item go for the 99 cents ebay always tell you to use, doesn't mean it should By the way, what's up with that, no matter the item, no matter the condition or value, they always are after me to start things at 99 cents. No way I'm doing that, tried it, lost money. I never sell an item for less than I have in it, plus enough to cover the fees. Just no sense in that. I'd rather donate it to the local thrift than let some joker get it for nothing.
You know the price it shows on eBay for shipping FedEx is just an estimate, right? If you go to your account and see what you actually get billed it will always be higher. I never use FedEx through eBay because of this.
You have expedited shipping on the listings which is 1-3 days but you ship it 10 day ground through UPS?? Shouldn’t be surprised if you get bad feedback, or requested refund/return. Seems very disingenuous to lure people into your listings with Expedited shipping without the intention to actually follow through on that.
It took him 45 minutes to pack it himself and save apx $33, he says UPS store would have done it for him for apx $40. I think Pete would rather spend the extra $7 to get that 45 minutes back
The guy got a very good deal on a very expensive amp - $100 in shipping probably isn't the customers major concern - now when UPS gets done with it and rejects the insurance claim I'll bet Pete would wish he'd spend those "savings" on a little more insurance or chosen a freight carrier....
Pepp5150 with ebay/paypal fees that "extra" money isn't that much. Plus he has to pack it, drive there and drop it off to ship. So labor also goes into the shipping cost. Again when you account those two you didn't really get any $ extra but rather got what you expected.
You're going to absolutely crush it on that lot of slides.
By far my favourite youtuber!
Pete I love you brother! Your videos have taught me quite a bit much appreciated!
This is one of the most interesting vlogs you have made so far this year Pete. Thank you.

Thanks again for sharing the knowledge.
LOL I thought I was the only one who worked up a sweat packing larger items! Good to hear that you do too!
Thanks Pete!
I absolutely love your style Pete !!!! You are as honest as they come!!!
Can't get better than Double boxes. I had a high quality frame shop & used the same system. Nothing broken. I too Dumpster dived for packing materials; HEY Recycle!

An excellent packing tutorial. Thanks for your efforts on our behalf.
Nice, thank you! That's what I wanted to see!
Great advice on shipping big items 👍🏻 I need to start looking for foam!
thanks for posting - great information
Amazing! Love the step by step information on large items.

Thanks for the update on the slides! eager to see what they bring all together

LMAO! :D Typical Pete.
Ripping poor people off isn't always the best thing to do... I guess if the guy's dumb enough to not put it on Ebay asking at least 25% of it's worth then it's his loss.
you did awesome on the slides man.. he'll yeah
Just wondering did you send the customer a Video of the Packing....

UPS ground is as slow as FEDEX smart post
Hey Pete, another great vid. You might consider using a hot glue gun on the box flaps, top and bottom. It almost doubles the strength of the box.
Good morning I have a question say if you are at a Flea market thrift store or a garage sale and you want to buy lick tronics from someone how can you tell it's dielectrics work if you do not have electricity What should you do if you still want to buy the electronics such as maybe a video game system To Resell on ebay
damn! those slides are worth a lot. you have like 1000s of them.

The 2nd box on your FedEx estimate for the smaller unit would have been cheaper if you would have changed the dimensions of the box.
Great video!

Did you know Mr Yang has a Hummer parked in his driveway?
How many sports items do you have ? I'm interested in autographs
I wanted to see you pack that banker chair Pete.

I would not ship an empty box with only air. via FedEx. around here they always destroy the box or the item
What's your standard rule of thumb when it comes to charging for shipping?
Yeah but, the "bubble" doesn't go around the top and bottom so what's the point.
Yes it is send me PM. Cheers !!
Should have had a warning turn your volume down. LoL
Who's buying old photo slides $$$?
Swing4TheRing I buy every one I find . Why you got some??

19:40 I’ll burn them before I would take $20 bucks, I guess I don’t need $20 bucks that bad plus I would get off my ass and list them myself.
It's double corrugated not double perforated.
You know the price it shows on eBay for shipping FedEx is just an estimate, right? If you go to your account and see what you actually get billed it will always be higher. I never use FedEx through eBay because of this.
why would anyone pay that sort of money for a few slides? i don't get it

21 minutes? i'll just drop the amp off to my buyer instead.
not spain!

I hate shipping to California.
its pronounced spawn
I'm first but I don't know what to say
As a carpenter, I'm not particularly impressed. Sorry, Pete.
You are a little kid.lol
You have to pack it anyway..!! why don't you pass the saving's on to your customer..!! just a thought
#1 The customer agreed to the shipping charge #2 the discount helped decrease the price #3 business is business
