    Love it. Doing a few thousand a month thanks to you brother. If it wasn't for you I would have lost my house when I lost my job but had eBay income. Keep up the good work!

      I wish I had discovered these vids early on. I made all the mistakes, but muddled through and I do around a grand month average, some months are better of course, some are worse. I actually do better After Christmas. Lately I've got ten or 20 sales per weekend. Why do things mostly only sell on the weekends? Anyway, for the most part that's how it goes.

    • @okienative4785
      @okienative4785 6 лет назад +1

      toot tall that's when people have the time to aggressively look for what they want, and have the extra money for it lol.

    • @tootall5559
      @tootall5559 6 лет назад

      yeah, I kinda figured that, but still, nothing all week then ten or twenty on a weekend? Just seems weird that very few sales ever come during the week... most of the time. Every once in a while, it reverses. Just when I think i've got it figured out, it changes on me. also, the stuff I know the least about is what usually makes me the most money. I try to educate myself on many things, but it's always the odd items that I pick up just because they're cheap that bring big money. They aren't the bread and butter items, the little stuff that keeps the thing humming, but the big scores that blow my mind.

    Pete , I am glad you got to show the Estate Sale score with the $45 sticker. Those high stickers scare a lot of resellers away. They go early trying to use garage sale tactics and get disappointed. When you go at the end of the day, the companies are begging you to take the stuff.

    I never went to a Goodwill but decided to check one out in Ocean NJ near the Seaview Square shopping center. First of all, there were no electronics. Secondly, and most importantly, the place reeked of filth. I could envision the lice jumping from the tons of smelly used clothing in there. I'd never, ever consider going back.
    On another note, I've always found nice things and deals at the Collingwood flea market in Farmingdale NJ. Decent CD's, cassettes, vinyl, gadgets, stuff for the man cave, etc.

    Pete, if your still reading these comments, you can work that home scale whitch didn't pick up the knife by adding something heavier to it and then substract the additional weight. For example you know the weight of that taperoll but not the weight of the knife, you put them both on the scale and then substract the weight of the taperoll and you are left with the weight of the knife. Hope I make sense. Great videos!

    Thank you so much for doing this interesting experiment. I am just a hobby seller on Ebay and have already gained so much useful info from you Pete. But often I say to myself, Pete is doing so well because he has a shop , staff and a well established store to drive sales. Now with starting from scratch and doing it all yourself we get to see what works and does not for less established sellers. Plus it is damn interesting to watch and follow. Great idea and thanks again for everything you do for the community.

  • @tootall5559
    @tootall5559 6 лет назад +3

    I started with even less. I still don't have a dedicated area for pictures and such. I do have lots of merchandise shelves. I have gone into kind of an eclectic range tho, I used to specialize, but found that isn't what works for me. I used to do only musical instruments, but sales were spotty and didn't have the small items to keep things going while waiting for higher dollar items to sell. I've found that the higher the price, no matter the value, the longer things take to sell.

    Pete, this is a great idea! I mean GREAT! Many thanks for sharing all your valuable experience with us. I'll be watching both of your channels for tips and ideas. I really like how you quantify your sales goals so you can make smart decisions as to how you manage your time and inventory. I'll really want to see how fast your turnover rate is (sell through?) and the profit margins you manage to earn. Again, great idea and many thanks for taking time to put it up on youtube.

    Thank you for this inspiring video! I really like it that you actually show us where you source items, your processing area and methods and your store. Your viewers can actually see the results! I am building my ebay business myself but working on my niche areas. I do think knowledge is half of the battle because it can save you time on sourcing AND research because you know just about what things will sell for just like you said. The only downside for newbies out there is that they will have to streamline their processes as they don't have the experience you do, so the results may not come as quickly but with preserverance, they will come in time. Thanks again for all you do.

    Question: So are you not going to thrift for your store anymore? And if you do go during the week, how will you be able to pass on anything you normally won't buy for the store but with your price range being lower in new store you would want to pick it up? Just asking... (Regarding shopping only Sundays.) And how does Adrian feel about your experiment?

    As you can imagine, raising 7 kids in the 60’s/70’s for my Mum & my late Dad was not easy. However because my Dad worked his *ass off* like *no one* I had seen before or since, we all lived a comfortable life. And not to sound to sappy, but there is absolutely no mystery or secret to why you are so darn successful too, Mike. So keep up the fantastic work, my friend. And we will all continue to watch your videos. Hoping to get any edge we can out there in this now, heavily populated reselling game. Cheers!!!
    P.S. Always picking up VHS tapes that I think & more importantly *hope* will sell. And at $0.99 a pop, why the hell not gamble? However I have no way to test them, having got rid of all my old electronics years ago. So while perusing your eBay store I saw that you had some ‘very reasonably’ priced VHS units & wondered might you ship to beautiful Toronto-Ontario, Canada? Should I not beable to ‘score’ one around here.

    Nice video Pete, I recommend the USPS Scale its gray and blue and you can buy it at the post office, Hands down the best scale i have ever owned, I have used tons of different scales over the past 15 years in this business and this one is the best. Go buy one and you will see what i mean.
    This new experiment is sweet, I think all of the new resellers or those looking to start reselling should view this video. I think most people coming into this business of reselling. Thanks for the videos Pete, I just picked up a super nice set of Pioneer HPM-700's the other day, I have never had the 700s so i think i will keep them.

    Hi Pete, i watch you for more then a year and i love your videos.
    You say its a "experiment" to show how it is possible to make a ebay shop from Zero up to about 18000$ a Year.
    I don't say its not possible, becouse i re-sale used cellphones on my own in Europe.
    But for the experiment is not fair, becouse with this video and your name (craigslist_hunter) you allredy have over 100 followers in 2 weeks. In the begining it take me more than a half year to get 100 followers on my shop, also i have more than 50 cellphones every month. Thats why i think its not "fair" experiment. Sry for my english. Cheers

    Pete! This is awesome! I saw your update you just posted and went back to watch this experiment kickoff video. It's so cool that you are doing this to help others learn the ropes. I've already learned a ton from you and your videos! One thing I have to mention...I went out and found your eBay account and immediately followed you to keep up with the Experiment. Then I thought...I wonder how many followers your new account would have at this early stage. You're at 298 already! I know the Cassini is a bizarre algorithm and wondered if you will be at an advantage with your new store because of the followers. I've been selling for two years and I only have 39 followers! I'm sure a crossreference of the 70K followers on here and eBay followers would be close to 100%. I just mention this to highlight that others may not have the same success in the beginning as you are going to have due to the fact that Cassini may give seller preference for followers. Again, I love this idea and can't wait to see how it goes!

    Your advantage is actually having the ability to thrift for 5 or 6 hours. I think this venture will succeed if you spend the time and effort. how are you going to run your current shop only to run back to test/photograph/list & eventually ship even just on a Sunday without Vicky or other staff members, plus drive around looking for electronics...minus what comes in to your store. If the store grows it may be impossible to do it only part time & on your own.

  • @alanmaier

    Pete, I wish you the best of luck with this extra eBay account. You are selling the sort of item I have been selling for many years of my 20 years on eBay - and for me the market has turned totally flat. It is very seasonal for all but the true high-end and should pick up soon through the late spring warm-up. Personally I am walking away from eBay after all these years due to poor sales and silly returns... and I service / clean / test everything. No receiver goes without the top coming off, no CD or DVD player leaves without the laser cleaned. Still have too high a rate of "defective" which in reality was just borrowing the item for the weekend... and we both know eBay does not care about the "liar buyers" who take advantage of sellers. I used to have at least 100 items listed in audio, today I am tossing some into the dumpster.

    Hey Pete! I just wanted to thank you for making this video! I've been very interested in getting into selling/reselling on ebay, and craigslist etc... I just never had the nerve or courage to get out, and do it. I work at a fast food restaurant in a bad part of town where there are a lot of hostile / homeless customers. Usually i can handle it but lately I'm at the end of my rope. I get yelled at, spit on, and threatened daily, often times having to call the cops multiple times a day. I want to quit the job but I feel like I'm stuck. I want to start reselling first as a supplemental income. But hopefully I'll learn, and be able to grow my store into something where I can leave my shitty job, and work for myself. Any thoughts or advice?

    So you say that store I way over priced and they have the unit priced at 14.00. then you say it will sell for 50-80 bucks? Doesn't sound overpriced to me.

    Yup, I'll ride along with you on your 12 month Journey. And as for the scrap metal I do not believe Taco Stacks van would make the trip

    Thanks Pete, for your willingness to help and inspire others! I have an eBay store that I've been ignoring for a while, but after watching this, I'm going to start moving again. And how lucky you are to have so many Goodwill stores near you! I have only one.

    We think it's great that you are trying to help people realize that they can start up an eBay account from scratch. We don't know if you realize it or not, but a person who is just starting out on eBay with no type of social media following like yours, will most definitely not get the same results that you are going to get. We started selling on our eBay account back in May 2017, and it has been a struggle every step of the way to get to where we are. You already have 199 followers on your eBay account and we have 1 follower on ours, and it has been running for over 6 months. The more followers you have, the more traffic you get, the more opportunity to make sales. So we just wanted to make sure that you understand that the type of results that you get will not be the same results that a regular, everyday, no social media person will get. Thanks for all your videos.

    This is very exciting. So often videos on You Tube from some of the eBay pros are snapshots of their businesses that's been years in the making. For the newcomer, that can be a bit intimidating. Here, however, we can see an operation from the ground up yet done by someone with tons of experience. A perfect learning opportunity. This is serious knowledge guys and gals, and its free. Absorb every bit of it. It's doable if you take the necessary steps and pay attention to detail.

    you're fortunate you get components at a reasonable price. here estate sales charge no less than 15-25 or higher depending on the unit & the thrift stores are often 15-20. as you said in the video most dvd players bring nothing, so you really have to get components at prices closer to your purchases.

    I've sold electronics on Ebay. I think its too much work for the amount of profit. Testing and cleaning was very time consuming. Not overlooking the fact that its fragile to ship and the return rate could be high.

    Pete, I heard, but I don’t know how true it is, that eBay likes it when sellers have a variety of items from different categories, so I wonder if sales may not be as good with just one category of items. I hope you have great luck with this! Sounds like vintage electronics is high demand.

    I'm curious why you don't have an "eBay Store" for pajatek - just a standard eBay account. Would like to see you comment on this in one of your videos. I for one would also like to see you do a video on amazon FBA.

    Why take money away from your main business that you already buy vintage electronics for? Sounds like a conflict of interest.

    I bought that same scale new Pete. The specs tell you that it is 6oz to 400lbs. So the scale does work and has never failed me on accuracy. I suggest you get a different one for lighter items.

    Hello Pete what is that metal bar that is holding your bubble wrap in place. I have a big problem finding a holder small enough. That isn't a Stand with wheels to hold the bubble wrap
    Thanks so much !
