  • A Hero's engine is a simple radial steam turbine. Water is added to the ball via a valve at the top then heated by the spirt burner. The water boils and produces steam which exits the ball through small jets on the side which produces torque and spin the ball up to 2500 rpm.
    The Greek-Egyptian mathematician and engineer Hero of Alexandria described the device in the first century AD and many credit it's invention to Hero, however, Vitruvius a Roman Architect and engineer was actually the first to describe this device around 20-30 BC.
