I don’t know if you’ll see this but I’ve been subscribed to you for an absolute age, since, or maybe even before you were at uni, and I used to watch all of your videos religiously. They were so creative and interesting and made me think. And now I don’t really understand the direction you’re going in. Not that there’s anything wrong with beauty/lifestyle content but it just seems to lack a bit of substance, and it doesn’t feel like you put all that much effort into your content anymore. I just watched “the difficult months” again because it popped up in my suggestions and it’s such a stark difference to your content now. I understand videos like that are time consuming, but you managed it while you were doing your degree so I don’t know why it’s gone this way since you made youtube your full time job. I also completely understand that people have creative slumps but it sounds like all of this has been a conscious decision. I love your videos Lucy so I hope you don’t take this as an attack, but I just miss your old content. You are so creative and interesting and you have such a talent for editing and I don’t think the direction you’re taking your channel really does you any justice
It's nice to see a Bullet Journal video where you've learned from your mistakes the first time around and are more focused on the practicalities and on what you'll actually use! And it still looks beautiful, i love it
I feel like a lot of issues people have when starting bullet journals is they do the standard aesthetic pages or just try and do what others have. A useful journal generally is one that’s more personal. Just some advise

Amber Beam honestly sorry, I didn't mean to sound dismissive or rude. I don't work or have school or anything as I try to get over mental health stuff so in a different and less severe way, I have less of a life than most. I'm sorry if it came across poorly.
true but for me it was so helpful to just copy other people's work in the beginning. I started last september and am now in a place where I generally do what comes to mind while still totally being inspired by other people's work. I love to see how someone organises their weekly spreads or what interesting ideas someone might have that i would've never thought of
FYI, if you guys don't have time for a bullet journal you can always use Google Calendar. It's so useful and simple. I've been using it for months and it's helped me to keep organized a lot.
the first time i attempted a bullet journal in 2016 i gave up on it around july haha. but over 2017 i really found my feet with it and i think the main thing is to realise that it's such a highly personalised system that isn't going to look the same for everyone! its main purpose is to organise our lives and the ~aesthetic~ really is just an added bonus to it. i love mine because it looks how i like it to, and it helps me see the things i need to do in the day. and decorating it when i have time is such a cathartic thing to do, but scribbling down tasks during exam season works too and i love how flexible it is. idk i just love bullet journalling so here i am rambling into the void about it!

I love it. It's minimalist and straight to the point. Most people have trouble starting a bullet journal because they see all these aesthetically pleasing pictures on the internet and they think they should do it like that but it's not true. Your bullet journal is personal so there are no rules. You can literally do it as you like.

Lucy, I am in love with your journal! And in awe of your planning and writing! I've always wanted to do a bullet journal because aesthetic and it just genuinely seems like such a lovely and cohesive way of organizing everything, but there is no way I would be able to or happy with what I create. So I always go pragmatic and use already-made journals or digital tools. But that certainly will never stop me from browsing studyblrs and vids like this for hours on end 😍

i just started a bullet journal recently and ive found it really useful so far. i think structures really important for it, but i'd say dont worry to much about whether the spreads you're making are "the right" way! just do what works for you - it seems like you've found the method. luv'd this vid lucy!!

My mom does the standard list thing for groceries too! It’s so organized and good because we eat the same meals every week practically, lol. She just made a word doc of our list and printed off a bunch, and then takes one every couple of weeks and uses it to check to see what we actual need verses what we still have. It’s so smart!
I always find that bullet journals are not that useful when you are really really busy. Like when you give mid level things to do it’s useful to keep track but I’m approaching the exams in my last year of school and the journal goes out the window. I’m going to try again for summer and my first year of uni but I think it’s important to remember you can stop and start as it suits you.
that’s so interesting because i’m completely the opposite! when i’m doing nothing i write barely anything and barely make weeklies, but as exams and AP tests are coming up i’ve been using my bujo super intensely
I always had that problem last year, so this year I searched for a diary that had all the room to use it how I used the bullet journal and that really helped with the time issue for me because I was spending all the time on they layout

This made me want to start bullet journaling again! I think the first time around I was a bit too ambitious. I have a lot of motivation issues relating to both my ADHD and my depression and I don't think it works for me to have a bullet journal as a creative project, but I think I could utilize it as a tool to stay a bit more organized

I think I'll need to start up a notepad again...I had a bunch of lil notebooks to jot down schedule stuff, ideas, and life planning info when I was in college but since starting work I only have one for work stuff. It would be nice to have one for life stuff too :)

Have you tried using fountain pens? There are pretty good, they don't stress your hand and if you like a nib or a pen, you can use virtually any colour you want.

Try following someone's planning for a month to get into it properly. When I started last year, i copied other people's work for like three months. It's so helpful to see how people organise things differently. And try not to choose super complicated and full on pages first. You could start with a more minimalist set up (plenty of videos on that).
And honestly, even though i copied other people I'm still looking at my old spreads and i don't like them, but recently i've just felt really inspired and just happy with what i come up with.
Go have fun with it and don't be discouraged if you aren't satisfied with the first pages 🙈
Facebook groups like bullet journals for minimalists could help! There's also a lot of youtubers that bullet journal without the art stuff, just do some looking around (esp the official Bullet Journal-ist, Ryder!) x

heya lucy, i have both the mildliners and the muji pens, and i've only ever found that the muji pen ink runs when you use the mildliners over the top. maybe try out a different pen just to see? hope this helps
