That's awesome : ) Her songs touch me really deeply and mean a lot to me! More than anyone else's singing I think. They feel healing to me - honest, real, genuine loving. If you happen to get in touch with her at some point, you can let her know for me.
You mean she IS a good woman. She’s still awesome. Met her and talked to her a few years back when she came up to Maine for a small show. She’s very inspiring and really funny.
The movie version song isn't bad but her version takes my breath away. It truly lifts your heart. Thank you Buffy and thanks NA4life for the posting. This is a great album too.
I learned something new now. I just discovered Buffy Sainte Marie's music on RUclips. I never heard of her before until I stumbled upon some of her videos. I didn't know that she was the one who wrote "Up Where We Belong" & that the song was hers. Many people near my age think it was Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warren's song. They did a good job in their unique way. But after listening to Buffy, the lyrics & song make more sense & fit her voice better. It has a more hopeful & uplifting feel.
Saw her do this at Annapolis' Ram's Head on stage.. all of the townies expected to see their folksy singer in a dimity white dress and out came this fabulously lean indigenous heroine complete with a blue streak in her hair and halter top with a back up band that was extraordinary...and when she sang this everyone cried....brilliant composer, activist and singer..
Her songs and her singing are so very deeply meaningful to me. They connect me to a place inside that I often feel like I've forgotten and didn't even know it, where it is so whole and well and so calmly, deeply happy. Realness and genuine loving care. An expansive place inside, a place of truth, and belonging. A deeply healed, heavenly kind of home. I am so grateful for her, and the music she has shared with us.
This song speaks to my soul on so many levels, it makes me really emotional. I’m crying right now. Can anyone tell where I could find the type of music that is at 3:16 it sounds Native !
James, you asked about the Native American chanting on "Up where we belong" by Buffy Sainte-Marie. You'll hear it on another beautiful song of hers "Darling Don't Cry" and also on her "Spirit of the Wind" which has an Inuit throat singer as well
You can fly like an Eagle 🦅 but you need to be shape-shifted and if they shoot you down 👇 it is not nice to land as an Eagle 🦅. God Save Me works best as an Orb. You can be lifted up to the Sky. And go flying as Body Mind Spirit with Consciousness as Orb. That is how I do filming 📹 of movies 🎥 on occasion. The Spirits film most of the films as History. As We are the Royals that you recognize as the Good Guys in films. Natalie Helferty the Queen as Myself at Port Royal in Barbuda in Pirates of the Caribbean
May love find it's way through us all...
I like this version far more. She's a genius song-writer.
I think the lyrics have much more meaning and sincerity with her singing the words.
Great version by the awesome Lady who wrote this beautiful song
I was a childhood friend of her son's, we spent many a night at her house. She was a good woman.

Always special to hear a special lady sing the song she co-wrote
Buffy grew up in Maine, my home state. Her song "Piney Wood Home" is about Maine. I grew up listening to her music.
A great lady. Her fights are our fights.

A very nice song,
This is still perhaps my favorite song of all, and I may have heard her sing it, even before Cocker / Warren made it famous. Her genius is epic!

@Smallville7000 Amen. Always respect the songwriter.
@Kudosmeister Heaven bless you.
Magnificent song. It lost something when it was reinterpreted for the movie.
Yeah "lift" became "lifts"....and it went from a prayer to a ballad ...
@mrsRogue Ya! I love the one called Still this love goes on and on :D It's on youtube here too. peace.

This is so much better than the Top Gun version. Buffy is an amazing song writer and human being!
It was in "an officer and a gentleman "
I wish I could purchase this song or album somewhere.....any suggestions?? I can't seem to find it anywhere. Thanks!
💗 🦅💗
I wish Buffy had also sung this as duets with Joe Cocker, Cat Stevens, and Jim Croce.
any one trying to find hard to find cds should try a site called second spin
how many of us Canadians grew up learning Cree on the Canadian version of 'sesame street'. i know i did.
Ohio :)
A whole career built on lies.
Much better than Joe Cocker's remake
