  • Peter Barakan interviews Muho Noelke, the German abbot of Antaiji in 2011.
Antaiji is a Zen monastery located deep in the mountains by the Japanese sea. The monks commit themselves to the practice of seated meditation and the study of the Buddha's teaching in the tradition of Dogen Zenji and Sawaki Kodo Roshi. The community also cultivates the fields around the monastery, cuts grass and trees and does construction work to keep self-sufficient.
Muho explains about zazen, community life and the relation between teacher and student. Another controversial topic is the precept of not-killing and eating meat.

Are you still in Antaiji? Or living now in Osaka? Where could we meet you to practice Zazen together?

      Hello!
To join the zazen group at Osaka castle, do we need to bring something with us (zafu, yoga mat, etc) ?

@@muhoThank you for your reply! I practice every day, but somehow the daily life still takes its toll on you. It's hard to keep your mind still and focused with so many things around you

Eating meat is very healthy. Unusual to be guilt tripped into eating it instead of the other way around. But fortunate none the less.
Peace and strength to you : )
