Hello, thank you for your question. Your total benefits will depend on the province you live in, your marital status, and the number of children in your family. The total annual benefit is split into 4 quarterly payments. In some situations, your benefit payment may be adjusted. For example, if you have a tax debt with the CRA, the CAIP may be applied to amounts owing for income tax balances. Since I don’t have any information about your situation, I would recommend contacting the CRA. They will be able to explain to you how your benefits are calculated. Please note that my comments are provided for general informational purposes only. Also, I have no liability or responsibility over your tax return and/ or benefits. Hello, thank you for your question. If you have already set up direct deposit with the CRA, then the Climate Action Incentive Payment will be deposited in your bank account. If you haven’t registered for direct deposit, please refer to the instructions on the CRA website. Hi Kk, thank you for your questions! Great questions! The Climate Action Incentive Payment (CAIP) is NOT subject to income limit. Your total benefits will depend on the province you live in, your marital status, and the number of children in your family. Per the CRA, “To be eligible, you must be a resident of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba or Ontario on the first day of the payment month and the last day of the previous month. You must also meet at least one of these conditions during the same period: You are 19 years of age or older; You have (or previously had) a spouse or common-law partner; You are (or previously were) a parent and live (or previously lived) with your child.” Currently, it is available to residents of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. Starting July 2023, this benefit will also be available to residents of Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. Thank you! Hello, thank you for your comment and question! The $772 is the annual base amount for a single individual in Alberta. Hello, thank you for your questions. Regarding your question about the amount of quarterly payment, the amount of benefits will depend on the province, marital status, and the number of children in the family. For example, in 2023-24, the quarterly payment for a single individual living in Alberta is $193. I am sorry, but I cannot comment because I am not familiar with your situation or the agreement you have with the CRA. The CRA will be able to advise whether benefits payments are applied to offset debt. Hello, thank you for your question! Per the CRA, “You don’t need to apply to receive the payment for the CAIP. The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will determine your eligibility when you file your income tax and benefit return and will send you payments if you’re entitled to them.” The exception is newcomers. Generally, if the eligibility criteria are met, newcomers can apply for the benefits in the year in which they became resident of Canada. Except nothing was said till recently, yes your income tax has to be filled but to get this payment your filing of income tax has to be done before March /23..I did not know this info till now..If you filed after that date you get nothing, like me.
Hello, here's the information on the CRA website: "To receive your payment on April 14, 2023, you and your spouse or common-law partner (if applicable), must have had your income tax and benefit returns assessed on or before March 24, 2023. If your tax returns are assessed after this date, your payment will be included in a subsequent payment." Reference: www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/child-family-benefits/cai-payment.html
@@ZoeySiu I notice their date didn't come out in public till it was after..I would have filed earlier if I knew about it..Why did they hide that date till recently..The info about the due date was not till on or after March 24/23
Hi Prabhjot, thank you for your question! First of all, you need to determine your residency status for Canadian income tax purposes to know your eligibility for benefits. International students can be resident, non-resident, deemed resident, or deemed non-resident. The CRA publication RC4210 (GST/HST Credit and Climate Action Incentive Payment) states the following: To be eligible, you must be a resident of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, or Ontario at the beginning of the month in which the CRA makes a payment. In the month before we make a quarterly payment, you must also meet at least one of the following conditions during the same period: - You are 19 years of age or older. - You have (or previously had) a spouse or common-law partner. - You are (or previously were) a parent and live (or previously lived) with your child. Generally, you are not eligible for the CAIP if, at the beginning of the month in which we make a quarterly payment, any of the following apply: - You are not a resident of Canada for income tax purposes. - You are confined to a prison or similar institution for a period of 90 consecutive days or more. To determine residency status for income tax purposes, the CRA looks at all of the relevant facts, such as residential ties, the length of stay, and tax treaty. If you are not sure about your residency status for income tax purposes, please reach out to the CRA or consult with a professional. Thank you! Hi Saurav, thank you for your comment and question! In 2022, did you complete the Form RC151 (GST/HST Credit and Climate Action Incentive Payment Application for Individuals Who Become Residents of Canada) or Form RC66 (Child and family benefits including the GST/HST credit and CAIP)? Generally, if the eligibility criteria are met, newcomers can apply for the benefits in the year in which they became resident of Canada. I would recommend contacting the CRA. They may be able to process retroactive payment for benefits (e.g. GST/HST credit) if you are eligible. Am I eligible for this?
Hi Prabhjot, thank you for your question! First of all, you need to determine your residency status for Canadian income tax purposes to know your eligibility for benefits. International students can be resident, non-resident, deemed resident, or deemed non-resident.
The CRA publication RC4210 (GST/HST Credit and Climate Action Incentive Payment) states the following:

- You are 19 years of age or older.
- You have (or previously had) a spouse or common-law partner.
- You are (or previously were) a parent and live (or previously lived) with your child.
Generally, you are not eligible for the CAIP if, at the beginning of the month in which we make a quarterly payment, any of the following apply:
- You are not a resident of Canada for income tax purposes.
