  • A fantastic solo dance number from the 1953 film "Walking My Baby Back Home" starring Donald O'Connor and Janet Leigh.
In this clip O'Connor's character has just lost his band due to circumstances beyond his control.

It is such a darn shame he became into his own as a dancer in the 1950's just when the public was tiring of musicals. He was one special talent!

Frustration has never been more genuinely portrayed on film, than by this expressive dance routine by the Great Donald O' Conner. Actor's speaking word's penned by brilliant writers with their best of acting skills could not match this depiction of downhearted frustration. Donald could incorporate his surroundings into His dancing routines better than any other. Giving us comedy and drama, tragedy and melancholy and every emotion under the sun or moon! For me, the greatest pure dancer to have lived.

Donald was one of my all time favorites , he was superb dancer and has the best singing voice of all the Movie dancers. There was another under appreciated Dancer who was maybe a few years older then Donald and his name was Dan Daily as a matter of fact Dan played Donald’s father in one of my favorite musicals “ Theres no Business Like Show Business “. Love these old clips keep them coming, please.

Not so fun fact - after Donald and his first wife gwen got divorced that year, 1954, she started dating Dan daily, all while the movie was being filmed, I think they even got married.

She was having an affair with Dan Daily. I'm sure that was completely awkward. Especially taking a slap across the face, actually twice. If you think about it. Glad he found Gloria, Gwen was evil.

I think is the best tap number I've seen Donald do from a sheer tap footwork point of view: precision, clarity and lightness. (Though certainly not the most entertaining.) I was a professional tap dancer, which doesn't make me an absolute authority, but I do have some idea of what I'm talking about.
