Dude thank you this vid saved me from letting a shop do the repair! My contacts looked exactly the same and I had the spring problem and that was the hardest part resetting those springs and brushes, I set them and used a strip of tape to hold in place until I got it together and then pulled the tape and it worked perfectly! Soon as I turned the key on and backed out my driveway it locked into 2wd “mine was stuck in 4hi” so that’s all I was looking to do was to get it into 2wd but thanks to your vid I actually have all 3 working as it shoul..thanks 😎

Thank you. I like to salvage parts to save me $. Most of the time it’s something easy and we overlook it. Called toyota and they said your actuator is broken. Its electric it’s probably fried your gona need a new one $600+ 😂 ok. Let me see if i can fix it or just break it some more. Waaalaaaa.

Thanks for the video.... I see what I may of done wrong. Today I hauled on flat bed my 2015 Tacoma to LHM Toyota in Albuquerque, NM. The Tech told me they would have to replace the actuator and shaft, Toyota price for parts $1224.9, in transfer case. Transfer case would have to be dropped, 7 hrs labor and Parts came out to be $2700. Unbelievable! First thing in the morning I am going to check the brushes and contacts. Thanks again!

You don’t need to drop the transfer case to work on the actuator. Its the black box next to your drive shaft transmission side.
Open it up see if your motor works. You can run it up to a car battery wire it either way the motor will run forward or backwards. Move your shaft in and out to see if there’s anything hanging up. Good luck keep me updated.

Thanks.... that was the dealership, Larry H. Miller in Albuquerque. I worked on it today and check the motor with a small battery. Motor is good. So I reinstalled, twice and now I have determined it's the front actuator. Appreciate your input! Cheers.

So I found a mini ball bearing inside the case. Any idea where that goes

Mini ball goes on the top of the electrical shaft were the magnets resides . It shows clearly on the video .

Thanks for the upload , very well explained . Actually I've done on my 92 2.4td 4 runner couple days ago . Same issue as yours . Mine was pretty clean , I've just lubricated and clean the electrical parts and tested externally with a 12v motorcycle battery and did work well one side to the other inverting polarities . Now, after install it, I've pressed the 4wd button on the transmission shifter and nothing happened, although the 4wd light stays on in the dashboard. Do you have a tip to follow this situation? Thanks in advance.

Try press and depress and see if you can hear it engaging. If not it could be one of your sensors not telling it to actuate.

@@hmongwild thanks for your help . This was no more nor less than a stupidity . The computer lock shifter has 3 positions to be install . I did not paid attention on right one which mislead 2 connection . It's working perfectly now.

Hi, I can hear the tcase actuator spins but no light and won’t lock the front diff.

Check the t case actuator. Thinking your contacts might be dirty. Think you just take the plastic cap off and there shoud be 3 to 4 prongs. Looks like a record player when you open it up.

Thanks for the video. It's nice to see the inside to understand a little more about how the contacts are made as to how it selects between 4 low, 4 high and 2 high/ neutral.
Question: With the spring load, is there advise to what position to have everything in when removing / replacing the cap that makes it easier to reattach?
    Thanks again for your video.

Mike Roland just make sure contact and spring are compress so that you can slide the drive back in. Its little tricky. A few try and you would get it

I have a toyota 4runner 2001 3.4...i guess the 4wd system works the same...but my problem is that i took the transfer case actuator cover and a plastic gear that has 3 pins that make contact to the cover and someone told me that the plastic gear has it's timing spot....i cant figure on wich spot should it be set in....can you please help!!

    • @hmongwild
      @hmongwild  4 года назад

Put it back in to were the pin and the cover contact part are touching either way you turn the gear the pins will b inside the contact point.
