A follow up note….I want to make sure to mention that I think Vinnie is one of THE best instrumental players ever. His work is very diverse and never gets stale. I really fell in love with his music when he transitioned into his rock work starting with Meltdown. I could actually play to the songs from this album and future ones…learned a lot of licks from several of the songs from this work. I love the high energy and melodic runs. Meltdown, Riding High, Deep Sea, Echoes, and Out of Nowhere are songs mere humans can play to and for me, never gets old and puts me in a good mood every time! Someone said Vinnie is one of the most articulate players and I totally agree. His picking, legato, and bends are always pitch-perfect and on-time!

I have followed Vinnie since the beginning of the Shrapnel days…Moore, Kotzen, Becker, Howe, Firkins, and more. Right about the time Vinnie put out his Mind’s Eye record, I was looking for my first “expensive” electric guitar. I lived in the Melbourne FL area and while in a local music store I heard some amazing guitar playing behind a closed door off the showroom floor. I couldn’t help myself so I knocked and opened the door. I saw a reached giving guitar lessons…but he didn’t look or sound like any local music store teacher. I had never taken lessons so I apologized for the interruption and asked if I could sign up for lessons. The next week I was at my first lesson of my life with Paul “Tonka” Chapman (Lonestar, Waysted, and UFO) who Vinnie mentions in part two of the interview. I was not familiar with Paul but certainly knew UFO’s music. What a great guy and player. Well, Paul asked me to bring in a couple CD’s of my favorite players. The next week I brought in Mind’s Eye and asked Paul if he had heard of Vinne. He replied “don’t know the bloke but let’s give it a listen.” He was intrigued by the Neo-classical style but admitted he did not play much of that style. I took several lessons and we became friends while I lived in that part of FL. I moved away and lost contact but would have loved to have talked to him about Vinnie playing in UFO years later. I’ll bet he loved Vinnie’s rock style as well! R.I.P Tonka!

one thing that makes Vinnie Moore's work stand out: I left my LPs behind when I move abroad and for a good 7 or 8 years couldn't hear them again. When I got reunited with my record collection and heard Mind's Eye again, I realized that I could remember the melodies. Maybe not note for note but the general melody. You get that with Satriani, Michael Lee Firkins, and Steve Vai, but not with all the "shredders" out there (that's a terrible name anyway)

What an incredible player Vinnie is. I first discovered his playing in the late 80's. I hate to use comparisons, because everyone is different. Way before Vinnie, I loved Blackmore, and still do. Blackmore to me is the one who started the neoclassical style before anyone. Then in the early 80's it was Yngwie. Another incredible player
mostly angry but sometimes melodic. Vinnie came after and I really enjoyed his all styles approach. Even in the early days you can hear how articulate, melodic, fusion style, sprinkled with rock. Thats what got me to get his CD's at the time. If it were records I would've worn out the grooves, I played them that much lol. It is not all about speed and Vinnie has incredible speed. He can also phrase, slow down and play musically. Very tasty in his solos. His right hand technique is very Al demeola-like, you can hear it at times. Vinnie is an all styles player and very damn good at it, Great interview Guys!

I used to work at a music store in San Diego CA that had one of the Ibanezes. This was like 28 years ago. Didn't realize there was only 50! I wanted to buy it but that was not a possibility at the time. Vinnie rules. Decades ago I took a "Shred is Not Dead" class from him and Terry Syrek at the National Guitar Summer Workshop and I had him sign my Digitech GSP2101 manual next to the listing of his artist preset 'Vinman Lead'. Man all such great shred guitar models he's played through the years.

Kramer need to have a good look at the Yamaha RGX612A and RGX612J since they are owned by Gibson. Everyone on the planet would have a Kramer with a Gibson scale length.
