- In a frightening moment caught on video, a teen snowboarder fell out of a chair lift at Mammoth Mountain. The teen snowboarder dangled from the chair lift for several minutes as Mammoth Mountain employees brought in a net to cushion her fall. #shorts
I am always confused how people fall off lifts. Sit down. Stay seated. That’s literally it. Seems like she fucked around and found out.
if you’re a kid a snowboard + boots is like 30% of your body weight pulling you off your chair, plus snowboarders often sit slightly sideways on the edge. Takes a swing of gust of wind while leaning forward while talking to a friend. On thing that helps is putting the bar down but this is America so that’s not an option
The bottom line is these people shouldn’t be at resorts. This happened at copper while I was in a lift line a few weeks back too, seems like a lot of people falling these days

Some people in America think using the safety bar is a sign of weakness or scared rider. I do about 1500 lift rides a season and always put the bar down. Once a season someone will refuse to let me put the bar down and ridicule me about it. The safety bar shouldn’t be optional unless you’re riding alone and only endangering yourself. The negative stigmatism of using the safety bar in America needs to be fixed.
Lol. It's really uncomfortable for lots of people, it's really not that hard to just not lean out of a chair that's literally leaning back
There is nothing uncomfortable about an arm and foot rest. You can very easily not use it without any effect at all.
Nah, anyone who wants it down should have it down. But I do the same numbers - half without the bar just because it is less comfortable than putting my arm around the back of the chair.
It’s not a negative stigma. You’re just a snowflake. The bar does practically nothing. If you are in 80mph wind gusts sure it might be helpful, but unless you have a problem with sitting still, there’s no reason you should need the bar.. it would literally be difficult to fall off of a ski lift.

Happened to a buddy of mine I highschool. Dumbass crippled himself falling off cuz he couldn’t sit still for 5 minutes. He’s really good at sitting still now.

Like they'll be vaping, talking to people on both sides of them at once, trying to send a snap, make a tik tok for their friends in LAaaaaaaaa and be surprised when their backpack straps are stuck or their wiggling around left them on the edge of the seat. Or they try to wear a giant backpack onto the lift.
Let Darwin help out the populace 😂 the fact that they're always shocked at what's happening means they don't have the capacity to see the flaws in their choices. They don't belong in potentially dangerous situations.

Im a snowboarder and some lift bars are annoying with the ski rests when.sharing but you know whats more annoying? being paralyzed or dead from falling off a chairlift sue to stupidity

I don't use safety bars because i'm a snowboarder too and they all are annoying, i don' fall nor came close to it, you know why? because I stay seated and safe. you don't NEED it if you have common sense.

I go to a place that doesn’t have a safety bad and once they just stopped it from full speed. Slipped right out of my seat and fell 40 feet. It happens.
I mean unless it’s really windy most good skiers at my home resort never use the bar and you know what, none of them have fallen off a lift ever

my friends do that. havnt fallen yet but they do it at the very end, when the bar is up. i alwayws have to grip the chairlift so they dont downright push me off
Mu best friend dropped off a lift on purpose and clung to his brothers leg. It was at seven springs in PA and it was a very powdered area. They were fine. But that was scary and fucking hilarious

The bar doesn’t prevent you from being dumb and jumping off the lift.
There’s no reason to use that bar, ski lifts don’t fling you off into the air, it’s literally a chair. If you don’t have a problem sitting on your couch without metal bars to hold you in place, you shouldn’t need a metal bar on a ski lift.

In Norway Ski resorts are using covered chair lifts now with the bar but a plastic big window frame covering the skiers, so none can slide through the only bars. Atleast at the ski resort nearby.
Yeah also they are often heated, was in trysil recently, a few heated lifts. Thing is in the US people often don't fold down the bar at all, seen as uncool especially by snowboarders due to the footrests being annoying. I have snowboarded for 15 years and never once thought to myself. "I'll just leave this up, it doesnt do anything anyway" and have never once been close to falling...
@@Ollearonsson Awesome, you did visiting Trysil. Yes, this is a bad habit to wanna look "cool". The lifts can suddenly stop and you start dangling in the air and if the bar isn't proberly pulled down, it can go fast to fall through, now that would been real uncool. US must also have a covered skilifts.

That same thing happened to me back in 1997 when I was 17. My suspenders got stuck and I hung on as lone as I possibly could. Over 8 minutes before I fell. Scary but also hilarious. I’ve always had terrible

@@wkr420 you would be surprised what the human body can do under pressure. I had done multiple pull-ups try to unwrap it but the way my suspenders were wrapped on the chair I could not unwrap them. Weird to try and discredit me over thinking I didn’t try a pull-up. Ok 👌🏻

Everyone always wonders how this happens. This happened to me when I was 15. I took my friend skiing for her first ski trip. This was before snowboards. I let her go first on the lift. We were both shuffling forward as the chair was coming. I’m trying to tell her to hurry because she was taking too much time. As I was almost to my spot, she starts turning to sit…and stopped for a split second, so I couldn't move forwards, but the chair is coming fast! Just as the chair got there, she sat and it hit me in the thigh…the bar came down and then it swooped us up in the air. I was hanging by my arm, with the heavy skies and boots. At this ski run, the chair goes forward about 30ft and there is a sudden steep incline. They hadn't stopped the lift yet and I'm looking down thinging ”If I don't let go right now, I will end up falling onto huge boulders on a steep hill and they won't even be able to get to me. So I actually had to decide to let go. This all happened within maybe 60 seconds! It was very scary! I ended up being fine. But my friend felt so bad and had to get off the lift and go down the hill her first time all alone. But this has to happen all the time! They never did stop the lift…so I made the right decision.

Wouldn't say it happens often but I've seen this happen a few times but no one was ever hurt. If they fall off near the bottom of the lift they are fine. Otherwise it'll be a tough time getting to the hospital
She broke her back. It was a 4 person lift, but the lift was packed with 6 people.
I used to drop in on purpose until i had gotten spotted and my ski pass taken for the day😂😅😂

she is a family friend of mine, broke her back and neck and is in the hospital but will be ok.

Don't rip on people who stay still and seated (and are able to lift their own bodyweight) for not using the bar, when everyone who falls off is either fucking around, not strong enough to lift themselves back onto the chair, or a young child with very short legs.
If the lift comes to a crash stop, it swings forward and because of the angle of the seat, you are pushed into the chair, not out of it.
The odds of some sort of freak derailment or tree incident are lower than the odds that you die driving to the resort.
This is why I dont get why west coast riders are accustomed to not pulling down the bar. Its pretty difficult to fall through the lift bar.

That's why you sit like you did in your car the entire way to the mountain. I haven't seen many people fall off the driver's seat, and get tangled up on the floor mat

Similar to the there/ their/ they're dumpster fire, run on sentences and spelling mistakes, it bothers some more than others. I remember skiing with my mom at times and, of course, she'd put the bar down.
I remember how much more secure / held I felt.
But when you're a kid, being cool is paramount.

In most of Europe they'll stop the lift if they notice a bar left up, how can the liability capitol of the world allow raised bars? Sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen, or do you sign a waiver that you're only using the lift at your own risk? I don't understand, just use the damn bar.

Sit on the lift. That's literally all you have to do.
And put the bar down. There's times when the chairlift suddenly stops and your momentum pulls you forward. Nothing to lose by putting the bar down.
