Guy...thank god for you!!! These are the things that they don't really teach in hair school and unfortunately some stylist that have been in the business for a while don't keep up with education and new technology....so many clients are requesting these color and changing them often...you really have to know corrective coloring today. That can be hard because it's scary to take risks and learn by trying things in the salon. Your videos are priceless!!! You show different techniques and different products. You also always show your results at each step of the service. I can't thank you enough! Your blogs have given me the confidence to be the stylist I want to be! I can not wait to see you in New Orleans in September!! I'm coming to the show and your class!! Thanks again for educating and inspiring!
I know what happened:) Like you said, colour remover shrinks the colour molecules so that they can be rinsed out. When you put a regular developer on it it causes the remaining molecules to grow again. So, they shrunk, but weren't removed, so they developed, or oxidized and grew again when you put the bleach with developer on. If you had used another colour that didn't have developer in it, they would have stayed small. That's why when you have done this before, and used a fantasy colour that was deposit only, it didn't happen. Love love love your videos!! I'm a stylist but had to quit doing hair full time because I have cancer. I lost my waist length blond hair last November and now have rose gold with blue and purple tips on my post chemo pixie:)
Your hair looks freaking georgeuos!! My boyfriend had to go through chemo, he lost his hair BUT he beat the hell out of the cancer that almost took him away( he did grow his hair back). Stay strong, positive and beautiful! Breath it into existence... ✌❤
Lucki 922 I can see ur hair in ur pic it’s sooooo pretty and you are so beautiful!!! Post chemo hair style...? So I hope that means you have beat it I see u posted this 3 years ago I hope your doing better I hope you have beat cancer
The color remover shrinks the color ready for you too wash it out which is why the rinsing for a long time is so important. All the color isn't removed it's just too small for you to see, so when you apply a developer the color expands again and comes back. I had this problem when I was doing my hair :/
Megan Richardson Im watching this WHILE i have bleach going over colour remover HOWEVER i made sure to wash it 3 times before hand. So hopefully this should be all good.
Just some side info to what happened with the reappearance of the green color: The Hair color remover builds chemical complexes. It can hide the color within the hair by building these complexes. I think, you said that it's an anti-oxidant. That means you sucked O2 out of the color. So it turned into a blondish color. When you bleached it, you added O2 again and so the whole process went backwards. This is what I know about complexes and you just experienced it first-hand. I am no hairstylist, but I know stuff about chemical reactions. And well, if you would have mixed it before and didn't leave that part off, you would've seen it right before your eyes in one process. :)
The hair color remover took out the O2 from the hair, which caused the hair go from green to blonde. But when they used the bleach, the bleach added the O2 back and so the green hair came back.
see, as a professional also, i love that he showed this. b/c if this happened as im doing a client, my stomach would go in my throat. id think what did i do wrong, etc... now if this happens i know to pre-warn them and i wont be scared. thanks!
I'm not a stylist or colourist; however, I'm addicted to these videos. They inspire me. I just wish I could find someone in my area that knows what their doing with different colours and patterns. Not just one colour all over.
I love that you do these videos. I went to cosmetology, didn't finish, but have always had an interest in it even after stopping school. It's really great to continue to learn here with you and watch you learn as well! Thanks for taking the time to do these, you really help us out! Love ya, Hair Bestie!
The hair colour remover shrinks the colour molecules, not remove them. So when you put the bleach on it expanded the colour molecules making it return to green. Even though it was temporary colour it was still lying in the hair cortex but didn't look green because the remover shrunk the molecules, but then the bleach expanded them back to green.
WhatDidJustHappen101 we are talking about colour molecules, which start out small, and then make its way through the hairs cortex, and then expand so they become trapped and can't pass through the cuticle. Then when colour remover is added, it shrinks the colour molecules so it can pass out off the cuticle, and any left behind expand again and are trapped in the cortex. I'm sure whatever molecules your talking about are a lot different then hair colour molecules
The developer reactivated the color. that happened when I used color remover on my hair. it turned right back to the color it was before. I was so mad. I googled it and everyone had the same issue
Those discoveries! Totally fascinating. As a learning cosmetology student and future colorist, I SO appreciate you sharing your discoveries with us. You're an inspiration and a great reminder that we should always strive to be learning and growing as stylists!
I agree! I loved that show it was my fave....some names from the show that would be cool Synergy, Stormer....maybe just hologram lol. Guy Tang one of the misfits names was Pizzaz so your Retro Pizzaz works lol. I also see it being colors from space as well. it's a tough call. XOXO 💋
Gorgeous result! I've been doing creative colors for 25 years. I've endured several hair-related vids, but this was such a pleasure to watch! I'm glad I found you!
I love reading all the “hairdressers” schooling you on color remover. Of course you know this, it’s theory 101 , but the content is great and def makes it paranormal 🤣. You are an amazing colorist, and thanks for being yourself and making our world a little better along the way!
I tried a regular colour remover over purple. It went blue. So I used a colour remover made specially for fashion colours and it went back to purple. Oh geeze.
For the record, Kenra Permanent and Demi-permanent colors contain both direct and oxidative dyes. That is probably why Kenra color corrector managed to remove the green in her hair.
Ugh, this is beautiful!!! I would’ve liked seeing you do the technique and partings to get a better idea but it kind of gives me an idea of a balayage parting.
I've watched all you videos... you inspire me to study, learn as much as possible about chemistry, as well as anatomy and physiology. And, experiment!!! You, unlike stylists around here, will go for it! knowing it can be straightened out if not repaired completely. Experiment, be brave, and step out of your comfort zone, people, even baby steps will work!
She looks like a monsters high doll in a good way. Also I can't wait to see a haircut video! Guy Tang any advice for left handed people about to start cosmetology school? I have always loved hair color since I was 6 but being left handed intimidates me on the hair cutting end.
Perfect name for this...?? MIXED BERRY!!! Anytime you see fruit snacks or drinks or anything that are "Mixed Berry" the packages and fruits shown are these EXACT colors. 👌🏽👏🏽👏🏽💯
i just watched the video and i think the color should be named something that has todo with the background drops you had behind her in the finished product which were cosmos or cosmics but definietly not alien. i also want to give my graditude to both of you for exploring live while finding out what would happen if you did this or that. very couragous. much props. the finished product is exactly something i would like to do with my hair except i'm not as outgoing personally to match the hair color. the 3 or four color theme together are what i've been thinking about doing lately, i dig it. only difference with my hair is that its thicker, longer, i have the base around whole head shaved very close to scalp and the crown of my head very long with an ombre type look to it in the colors of an almost dark brown (soft black) and a caramel/gold tint/ honey half way of the length of my hair to the roots. i like it cause it looks kinda natural. the ombre look is what im going for. i have the splat colors turquoise r and blue crush for doing the ombre style but im clueless on how to even dye my hair. the light color in my hair is due to my firsthand experience bleaching my hair and trying to dye my hair to the splat hair color crimson obession. it didnt turn out because i didnt add enough bleach and enough color to my too thick hair. basically im saying thank you for your honesty throughout the video the outcome was stunning and wish me luck for when i dye my hair.
ARG this happened to me ! luckily i saw this video before going blonde. I first tried the clear method after using manic panic dark blue but it didnt work for me. I then removed the blue using Color Oops and turned a yellow blonde. I then went in and bleached my roots using olaplex and schwarzkopf blondeme. As soon as the bleach touched the ends of my hair the blue came back! I ended up bleaching over the blue then using the vitaminC/head and shoulders method twice to remove those light blue patches like in this vid. This really helped! I then toned my hair using wella. My hair feels soft and the color is great!
10 hours. Most of my salon clients would still be complaining like " when will you be done?" She was so sweet and understanding and complimentive to Guy!
Can you make a video on good hair care practices like how much to wash your hair, how to protect your hair, how to keep from drying your hair out, how to maintain hair color, etc.???
awww she looks so beutiful.....I wish I was her lol...... shes so lucky she gets to get her hair painted by you GUY, you're the Goddess of hair. 👍👍👏👏👏👏💜
It tells you on the remover to add a level ten to stripped hair when done.. If color comes back to perform the remover again...it takes three times sometimes. This is exactly what it does when it still has color buried in the hair.
sona perez Thank you! Finally, someone who knows basic color knowledge. I've been scrolling for an hour, and not one person posted why this happened. I knew right away. I'm really surprised Guy forgot to do the peroxide step. Every color remover I've ever used, needed step two with peroxide to reveal how much color was removed. The peroxide in the bleach is what revealed the green dye still present in the hair. Color remover does not remove direct dye. The bleach is what eventually removed most of the green.
As much color work as he's doing I'm sure this is a basic concept that he would've known because I've had friends try to bleach their blonde hair that turns green
🌈🦋Dear dear Guy Tang:You are a genius in process and as the light of the new hair world, you are allowed to grow and learn new secrets of the universe. Keep rocking it, you ARE THE BEST💝!
So if you had to do it over again Guy, would you not use color remover and just use bleach? I couldn't believe it when the bleach turned her hair green again! Thank you for posting all these videos. I have learned a lot about color from your videos and it has helped me become a better stylist! Keep up the amazing work! One thing that I see a lot though, is people coming in wanting to remove black box dye. I know you did a video with Mary when her hair was black, but her hair lifted very easily compared to most. Could you please do another video on how to change black hair to a different color?
Thank you so much for the useful information! With all the new products out. Companies come out with all this new stuff over the last 3040 years. And don't tell you how to use it. Knowledge is power. Thank you for sharing again!
As a fellow hairstylist if someone has a previous color and you need to remove it and change the overall color yes it will take multiple hours. However if someone is only getting a root touch up or a single process it would only take about 2 hours. It all depends on the stylist as well.
love the color it's so galaxy like Guy Tang you are so talented just love the way you combine different colors to make look like it's art very beautiful
Did she fly all the way from Australia just to get her hair done? She is Australian isn't she? Or does she live in America? I haven't been subscribed to her for long.
Applerice I think they lived in Texas and moved to LA, or the other way around but since these videos are recent and her video with the star wars convention just happened I think they are living in LA.
I follow her a bit. They were living in LA untill today. They are moving out of LA because Ken doesn't like it anymore. Wonder if that means no more Guy Tang working on her hair xD
She's from Australia, but she moved to America. She currently lives with her fiancé Ken in LA but they are moving back to Mississippi( I believe that's what they said anyways. Lol) ^.^
Guy , you might not know everything who does ? All I know is you absolutely know hair and coloring . You amuse me so with that I think you're awesome . I wished I were able to get my grey transformation from you . I'm going to give it a try . I'm Cindy by the way using my husband's phone . Keep doing what you do . Ty all the way from N.C.
that happened to me with my blue hair.thought I had removed all the blue color then bleached it to go a different shade and tone and when I touched the bleach to the band bam blue hair again!
I have purple hair with black tips. The first time I dyed it I only washed it in cold water. The second time I washed it in lukewarm water, and now, the third time, I'm washing it in the shower with hot water. The hot and cold do the exact same thing. It keeps the color in for about 3 months. The lukewarm water seemed to make it fade faster, only keeping the color for about 1 month. That's just my experience though.
+srfsupergirls but if its hairanormal activity, then it isn't the same. By saying its Paranormal hairtivity then he's saying that the activity of the hair is paranormal.
You are incredible! I have been dying my hair for 20 years but have never had it done professionally. I love doing vivids and was purple for 2 years. How do I get in your chair? I'd give you free reign on colors and my hair is really short. Thank you for your time, and keep being fabulous!
Guy...thank god for you!!! I know what happened:)

Megan Richardson So, if I use color remover and then wash my hair, this shouldn't happen at all? Do you know if a deep cleansing shampoo could help?
I’ve always tested after a Color remover with a quick test with 20 vol at the sink right after.

Ugh, this is beautiful!!! I would’ve liked seeing you do the technique and partings to get a better idea but it kind of gives me an idea of a balayage parting.

i just watched the video and i think the color should be named something that has todo with the background drops you had behind her in the finished product which were cosmos or cosmics but definietly not alien. i also want to give my graditude to both of you for exploring live while finding out what would happen if you did this or that. very couragous. much props. the finished product is exactly something i would like to do with my hair except i'm not as outgoing personally to match the hair color. the 3 or four color theme together are what i've been thinking about doing lately, i dig it. only difference with my hair is that its thicker, longer, i have the base around whole head shaved very close to scalp and the crown of my head very long with an ombre type look to it in the colors of an almost dark brown (soft black) and a caramel/gold tint/ honey half way of the length of my hair to the roots. i like it cause it looks kinda natural. the ombre look is what im going for. i have the splat colors turquoise r and blue crush for doing the ombre style but im clueless on how to even dye my hair. the light color in my hair is due to my firsthand experience bleaching my hair and trying to dye my hair to the splat hair color crimson obession. it didnt turn out because i didnt add enough bleach and enough color to my too thick hair. basically im saying thank you for your honesty throughout the video the outcome was stunning and wish me luck for when i dye my hair.

Aubrey Smith yass

Yep, you're the only one. That's why she said it reminds her of Monsters Inc.

Omgosh I needed my hair done by him! urgh why am I stuck in Scotland?!

Amazing magical peacock nebula of beautiful hair! :) I'm saving this to show my own amazing stylist! Thank you Guy & Mary!

Would you ever visit Australia?????
BrokenButterfly10 I hope one day
i asked my hair dresser to put these colors in my hair and she said she would only put 1 color cos it would look bad and it wasn't very nice :(

10 hours!? No wonder he went far from 2015 having the models hold his camera to 2021....my gosh, that's something to live by. Bravo, Guy!
I love that so much xD "You know your powers don't work on me, right?!" LOLOL

@Trisha B It's a color correction that's why
Being in hair school and having everything fresh this BLOWS my mind! (The lightening process going green)

Did she fly all the way from Australia just to get her hair done? She is Australian isn't she? Or does she live in America? I haven't been subscribed to her for long.
Henley Phoenix She lives in LA. They are moving today to a diff state. She has a RUclips Channel called SuperMaryFace
She is Australien but she lives in America now :)
Lol) ^.^
I love the science part of color theory!! It gets frustrating at times but OMG the things you can do with color!!
watching your videos makes me wanna become a youtuber, and get my hair done by you
When Mary is blonde, she looks like Francine from American dad lol
Chris Howard I know right?

I wished I were able to get my grey transformation from you . I'm going to give it a try . I'm Cindy by the way using my husband's phone . Keep doing what you do . Ty all the way from N.C.

that happened to me with my blue hair.thought I had removed all the blue color then bleached it to go a different shade and tone and when I touched the bleach to the band bam blue hair again!
It's his honesty that let me find an awesome colorist to finally get the color of my dreams.. silver with lavender tios and I love it!!!!
This video was SO long and it didn't even include the most important part... how you rinsed it! WAAHHHH
This is my favorite video Guy has ever made. Mary is so cute. I've watched it a zillion times.
You should call it sultry sully! Lol

Do my hair
I'm serious
You are incredible Guy Tang! I enjoy each and every single one of your videos! Thank you for sharing your valuable advice ❤️
It should be hairinormal activity
+srfsupergirls no
Or he should keep it how it is because it sounds better...
tozzilil no! Hair - Par.. sound the same. Paranormal vs Paranormal hair tivity. Active- Hair? Wtf.. common sense
+srfsupergirls That logic doesn't work outside the US though...
+srfsupergirls but if its hairanormal activity, then it isn't the same. By saying its Paranormal hairtivity then he's saying that the activity of the hair is paranormal.
what color remover brand did he use? he didn't say.
All That Glitters Kenra
You are incredible! I have been dying my hair for 20 years but have never had it done professionally. I love doing vivids and was purple for 2 years. How do I get in your chair? I'd give you free reign on colors and my hair is really short. Thank you for your time, and keep being fabulous!
two beautiful humans
why is it called paranormal hairtivity? wouldn't hairanormal activity make more sense?
You inspire me every time I watch your videos. Every video gives me a new ideas.
You are the hair guru.
A part of me really wants him to do my hair because I feel like he is the only that will bleach my hair without it being orange
