the black market dlc brings some extra story to the game if you feel like you need it. Most of the game is procedually generated and since it's a sandbox game the story isn't necesarily the main focus for the developers. Instead it focuses more on the backstory to the universe which sets the scene.

Even after 3000 hours of playtime, I still love the chaos of friendly and enemy shells whizzing past my ships and stations.
Seeing my armada jump into the same pirate sector I'm currently in, close to the center of the galaxy where things get really interesting,
and watch them dismantle the highly advanced pirates while I pummel the HP of their shipyard below 30%,
so I can send in shuttles with boarding troops and take over their station to start my own base of operations in the area without having to found my own station.
Collision damage? Yes please! The more the merrier! Every run I played it was on max.
Whenever I'm outgunned I know I can rely on the armor blocks and integrity field generators to keep my ship together,
when I use the heavily armored front as a battering ram while boosting through enemy formations.
Each successful collision doesn't just shave off some of my ship's HP but also a big portion of theirs, sometimes even taking out a few of their weapons too.
All that while the bassy sound of their shells hitting my shields fills my ears. I love it!
Combat aside, I love building factories, mines and setting up supply chains, slowly building up my own empire close to the center of the galaxy with a stray station from the early days of my run scattered here and there in allied territory still raking in a few credits to support my exploration and war efforts.
On top of my game experience so far, this game is mod friendly and has pages over pages of other player's ship and turret creations
for you to download and with you being able to upload your own!
No micro transactions and artifically increased grind to make you pay for a "time saver".
(You can adjust the damage of mining etc. in the galaxy options during creation of a world or later on inside the server.ini file.)
The paid DLC was well worth it too in my opinion and also allowing players who don't have the DLC to play with those who have is a big plus in my books.
All in all, in relations to the amount of time played, this might be one of the cheapest games I ever bought.

Awesome comment - I always have a ship in mind I want to build but I give up because it looks not how I expected and I stop playing :/. I should just get back into it because the game is pretty well optimized and everything you've mentioned is so true. Atmosphere is great and I really love the procedural loading screens too, lol

I bought this game to built ships and fleets to fck shit up. And I'm not dissapointed.
The one thing that amazes me though is the building. The way I'm able to shape the blocks allows be to build some amazing stuff. And that got me thinking, what if there was a ship version of this game. To be able to make ships and sail the seas, fight against other ships and see how they vessel interacts with the ocean. That would honestly make it next level.

Making your own stations and factory chains, ships need captains so you can command them to do something.
Captains have primary and secondary class and random perks(negative and/or positive effects), classes help the captain do specific commands easier. For example Smuggler merchant, he can move in any faction territory carrying dangerous, illegal or stolen cargo no questions asked as he is smuggler, and getting better prices for them rather than you going to sell them manually because he is also a merchant.
There are all kinds of perks that have positive, negative or neutral effects, like having added or decreased chance of pirates ambushing him during his mission or being some % slower/faster in completing it. Neutrals have both positive effects, like reckless, captain is faster in completing the mission but there is an added chance of pirate ambush.
A lot of perks and classes effects activate only if you command them to go on a mining/scavenging.
I have scavenger captain that has a lucky perk activates when I command him to go scavenge, it gives me 2-3 extra items for every time he reports back, so he is pretty much 24/7 scavenging with an escort.
It it a lot of fun.
This captains 2.0 was the latest update I believe.

I'm not sure how long I've played this game for, as most of my play's been offline in heavily modded private servers, but I'd put it roughly in the region of 5K hours. I bought the DLC recently, at long last. All told, it's been well worth the price. Excellent game, and scratches many more itches than the Freelancer one I originally bought it to scratch. 😊

I just came across this video since I'm considering getting Avorion, great review! I had a few questions in case someone can assist:
    - Is this review post 2.0 patch? So many people seem to hate that patch and the changes it brought
    - Any recommended mods for single player?
    - Anyone playing it on Steam Deck who would share some feedback on it?

I play this game with the collision damage at 100%. But when I crash my ship into an asteroid at 3000 m/s I take literally zero damage. Either the collision damage is slightly broken on my game or I just build my ships way too strong.

i play with Friends on hardest difficulty. with custom server scripts to make it even harder. we have unrealeased mods we made for ourselves and dont realease to public. we have larger stations, asteroid fields. and asteroids. we have 10 times faster enemy respawn times, 5 times larger ships. and turrets increase what scale based on the size of the ship. some of these are on steam workshop but ours is custom versions of these, and we have other stuff id like not to mention here. but for us its just so much fun when the game is alot harder. we currently trying to mod the game in away where you wouldnt need any Carriers. Carriers are good concept but poor implenation, why do we have each carrier have 120 fighters causing alot of lag if u suddenly have let say 10 carriers on field. why cant each carrier have like 5 ships what do 22 times more work what they do now. same performance from game standpoint but better fps

    • @certaindeath7776
      @certaindeath7776 2 года назад +1

if u like x series, then play some of the x3. x4 is smaller, and for people that like x series games very relevant: x4 needs a lot of gpu power all the time. ur pc runs under heavy load for all the hundreds of hours u can sink in ONE playthrough. for a game thats basically a spreadsheet game in 3d space thats not good.
admitted, x4 has some QOL features, that are really missing in the x3 series, so one might overlook the energy hungryness and smaller scale of x4.

    • @jh5kl
      @jh5kl 2 года назад

@@certaindeath7776 x3 indeed is a great game still worth playing today but it shows its age. i feel that x3 veterans perhaps don t always take in consideration that x3 did needed a lot of time to become the game that it has become 🙂

Every control is listed under key bindings in the settings menu, and unless you choose to ignore it, the game has a rather in-depth set of tutorial missions and popup hints. I've never needed to look up anything, aside from cool workshop mods.
