The Real sounds of Formula 1

  • For the first time since 1988, we've had Formula 1 vehicles running on turbocharged engines. I personally don't mind the sound of the new generation turbo engines, but definitely the ones 1980's engines had much better sounds and didn't sound like vacuum cleaners (at least we've got quite a spectacle this year).
But the next decade, the 1990's had definitely the best sounding engines of all. A harmony of V8, V10 and V12 engines screaming, nothing like everything we've heard for the last 8-10 years in Formula 1. I just wish we could get back the free engine selection in the sport, it would make it so much better soundwise

Personally - I much prefer the 10's and 12's. F1 races should be exotic and exciting, in every sense.

Is wrong saying that the 90s had the best sound, for me the best sounding f1 were the turbo v6 of the 80s, the sound was more complete and powerful.

How does it matter how the cars sound? Is the most important thing listening to cars or following, what is the best driver-constructor -combination?

Why not both, my friend? FIA should make them at least sound like the 80's turbo engines :)

Also the cars of 2013 emmited sounds at around 145db whereas the 2014 cars are 10db less loud. Still, they're not so quiet but the pitch is the kinda annoying part, some are sounding cool (Mercedes) and some others crappy (Renault).
