Its because he wasn't closing games until after the Astros traded away immaculate grid legend Octavio Dotel. Lidge racked up 94 innings as a reliever in 2004.
I played along at home and listed off my Pirates dominant Joel Hanrahan-to-Jason Grilli-to-Mark Melancon lineage and no joke I managed to accidentally guess the year they were with the team and had their career strikeout years (2010, 2012, and 2014, respectively) with the team when I was trying to remember what year they were playing their most effectively as a closer, which ironically isn't the same year. Example: Hanrahan managed to put up 100 K's over 69.2 innings of work and only had 6 Saves. Shit talk the Pirates all you want, but they had an AMAZING stretch of closers over the years. Capps, Hanrahan, Grilli, Melancon, REDACTED, and now Bednar? That's a damn fine stretch of pitchers.
I was (and wasn't) surprised they skirted Lester. He had a great 2015 with Arrieta, but they picked 3 of the 4 I would have. Totally forgot about Marmol in 2010, though.
Habing watched a bunch of these drafts back to back its honestly mindboggleing how often Jolly makes a pick and confidently says "I made a video on him" and somehow still drafts a dud 😂😂
You guys had a laughing moment with the innings pitch in the beginning but I think that should be a continuation of this strikeout series with inning pitched
When Joez said he was picking a Cub from 2015, my first thought was Marcus Stroman. And I don't know why, because Stroman was a Blue Jay who played only 4 games that season. He also was never much of a strikeout pitcher.
brad lidge striking out 157 as a reliever is the craziest thing I’ve ever heard

@@shoukatsukaiI had to read what you said twice. 94 innings for a reliever. Holy shit.
Was 8th in Cy Young voting that year as well.
Brad Lidge was amazing until Pujols stole his soul Mortal Kombat style.
@@swilliams21231he was great a few years after, too. Saves are a flawed stat, but he went 48 for 48 in save opportunities in ‘08 with a sub-2 ERA
Before watching, im rooting for Joez. But he was REAL bad with years last time. Go get it Joez.
Joez killed this episode really happy for him
Jolly even made a tweet about Ben Sheets amazing year when he had 264 strikeouts.
The fact not one person said 2004 Ben Sheets is disheartening
143 k's for hader is crazy lol
Damn Joez Cooked
JOEZ HOLY CRAP YOU SMOKED IT THIS TIME I CANT BELIEVE IT
First names that came to mind were Brad Lidge and Ben Sheets. 03 Chicago Heat as well.
Finally a Joez dub. almost as rare as Jack winning.
JOEZ THE NL CENTRAL LEGEND
One of the best all around drafts but joez’s pulls were wild
I wanted Joez to go 2013 Waino but Rodger worked there
joez revenge tour going crazyyyyy
Beside baseball today this is my favorite series along with Homer draft and the old stat guess videos
Props for the Harang shoutout!
Aaron Harang had the most strikeouts of any NL pitcher from 2006-08, although he didn’t lead the NL in any of those years.
I never expected to hear Will Crowe’s name in one of these videos
2013 Adam Wainwright
how did nobody say 2014 cueto that was excruciating
This trio is the best for these vids ❤
Marmol thats a blast from the past
Love the haircut Joez. Looking good
Screaming Cueto the whole video
Jolly, I need a video on that 2004 Ben Sheets season
Lidge and Hader were crazy those years, God damn
I played along at home and listed off my Pirates dominant Joel Hanrahan-to-Jason Grilli-to-Mark Melancon lineage and no joke I managed to accidentally guess the year they were with the team and had their career strikeout years (2010, 2012, and 2014, respectively) with the team when I was trying to remember what year they were playing their most effectively as a closer, which ironically isn't the same year.

Screaming 2012 Aroldis Chapman at my screen until it gets picked
This Cubs fan is happy y'all got Wood and Prior in the mix.
I was (and wasn't) surprised they skirted Lester. He had a great 2015 with Arrieta, but they picked 3 of the 4 I would have. Totally forgot about Marmol in 2010, though.
@@BlueBagger83 If they wanted to be extra cheeky go for 2015 Travis Wood. Also Julian Merriweather would have been the sneakiest 98 ever.
Impressive and nauseating that Joez won with basically all Yankee-connections lol
Joez did so well, let's gooo
seeing carlos marmol as the third best reliever year is absolutely insane to me as a cubs fan because all i can remember is all the bad
Last time I was this early Gerrit Cole was supposed to get Tommy John
This was excellent. Joez is incredible
jollys reaction to joezs good picks was hilarious
"It's me: Jake and Joez McFly." Jolly with the early fusions.
What an absolute moment for Joez.
Love these strikeout drafts
Joez finally winning this thing after they mercilessly tease him is amazing
Joez went off in this one. Harang over cueto is wild
⚾️💨 Can't get enough of this stuff. Love it!
Habing watched a bunch of these drafts back to back its honestly mindboggleing how often Jolly makes a pick and confidently says "I made a video on him" and somehow still drafts a dud 😂😂
2019 Luis Castillo was a huge missed oppurtunity, really thought Jolly was gonna go to that at the end.
Waiting 6 episodes to see the reds just for you to throw a loophole for the Astros is nuts
I love how in the middle of Joez’ linsanity run he picks James Shields 😂
Very happy to see Joez finally win one
2003 Kerry Wood
we need sorenson on the mic more his dry humor killed me
Coming into this early, Ben sheets and yovani Gallardo should be some good brewers picks
You guys had a laughing moment with the innings pitch in the beginning but I think that should be a continuation of this strikeout series with inning pitched
or even harder... lowest ERA
Everything Joez does i feel like everyone reacts like a puppy who peed outside for the first time
I was yelling Cueto at my screen lol
When Joez said he was picking a Cub from 2015, my first thought was Marcus Stroman. And I don't know why, because Stroman was a Blue Jay who played only 4 games that season. He also was never much of a strikeout pitcher.
I thought joez was going to go into a cosby impression at the beginning.
Jake saved him from it I think 😂
Give me 2004 Brad Lidge
Joez went off in this episode.
a random fun one is carl edwards in 2017 with the cubs had 94
Was screaming Cueto Ben sheets and Oliver Perez
04 Oliver Perez - 239 (Pit)
14 Johnny Cueto - 242 (Cin)
04 Ben Sheets - 264 (Mil)
10 Carlos Mármol - 138 (Chi)
When trying to pick Astros stats go the year before their World Series year. 2004 they were crazy just got stopped by the Cardinals.
Was waiting the whole video for Joez to blow it
2004 Ollie Perez
That's where my mind went
Joez with his Linsanity run
I was yelling Carlos Marmol for the entire video
Joez: Confirmed NL Central Guy
IVE BEEN YELLING CUETO FOR THE WHOLE VIDEO
joez cooking is a fat W
Roy Oswalt was my favorite growing up too, cmon now Jake 😂😂
I wish they could do Rob Dibble. He led the reds in strikeouts as reliever with 141.
Wood and Prior in 2003 are the first Cubs pitchers that come to mind for this game
And Joze nailed it
i was screamin at the video the whole time about broccoli
Missing Ben Sheets 2004 is crazy. A casual 264 punchies
dream lineup: Jake, Jolly, and Ryan but drafting a bad stat. Like most hitter strikeouts, highest pitcher ERA, or GIDP leaders 😮
All time performance by Joez here
I wanted to say Darryl Kile for Houston but his 219 K season was 96.
Let’s go Joez!!!
I want 19th century strikeout draft. There were pitchers with over 400 strikeouts.
Carlos Zambrano 2007, Jack flaherty 2019, Corbin Burnes 2021, Trevor Bauer 2017, Gerrit Cole 2015, Jason isringhausen 2004, David bednar 2023, Josh hader 2019
Is it bad that when Jake said there's two Pirate/Yankees connections I thought of Ivan Nova instead of Cole? 😂
Gratz to joez
The fact that no one named Trevor Rosenthal was insane
I was screaming 2004 Ben Sheets 😂😭😂 264 Ks
Joez missing out on a 157K reliever by one year hurts so bad
Even though its not one of the top 3 I was screaming 2017 Corey Knebel at the screen
No Luis castillo for reds?
I don’t know how good he was for this, but Brewers CC could cook
I forgot about Ben Sheets he was so good I wish he was in MLB the show
Before watching 1/1 should be 18 hader or 04 sheets
Nobody went with Zambrano or Samardzija on the Cubs
I’m not even 1 second into the video and I know 2004 Oliver Perez wasn’t spoken of
i was hype as fuck for joez
JOEZ!
LETS GO JOOOOOEEEEZZZZ
Imo if you name a player who was never even on the team, you should eat a 0.
I was lowkey hoping for 2017 Corey Knebel and his 127 Ks to show up
Joez breakout game
IM PUTTING THE HOUSE ON JOEZ I BELIEVE
Bang!!
I pulled 2004 Oliver Perez out of the deepest recesses of my mind
Wood and Prior 2003
2013 Rosenthal better get drafted
