Living vicariously through your videos on this cold English morning haha great video Nick, packed full of info. I was in Albufeira last June/July in the height of summer, in between lockdowns, and it felt like I was the only tourist there. To be able to experience the beaches and mountain biking in the height of summer with no pissed up Brits causing trouble was heavenly haha Albufeira is a great place, and although it has its "dark side", it's very localised, so it's very easy to avoid. Stay away from the Strip and you will barely even notice it. Thanks again Nick, can't wait to get back out there this summer (fingers crossed)

I have only been to Albufeira in the winter when it is deserted and it is great. The people who run the cafes and restaurants are so friendly. You have a very broad definition of where Albufeira starts and ends but you know the area much better than I do. If you do go to Albufeira, you have to go to the Pingo Doce in the middle of the town. The buffet with grilled fresh fish is amazing and cheap beyond belief.

For a very long time my opinion of the Algarve was clouded by negative impressions of Albufeira delivered by people who had no business going to Albufeira. They would say that the Algarve is a zoo when in fact all they were commenting on was the party scene in Albufeira. Based on that feedback it took me a long time to even want to visit the Algarve but as soon as I did I absolutely LOVED it! Albufeira is there for those who want it and, for those who don't, there are countless other beautiful places to enjoy in the Algarve. Thank you for another great video, Nick.

Still, take the masses out of the equation and it's a lovely place, and worth a day-trip. Thanks for another great vid, Nick. (Idea for a future video: Nick interviews a dodgy estate agent)

We first started to come to the Algarve in 1987 when my mother in law bought a time share in Vilamoura. In those days Olas dAgua was a little village quite separate to Albufeira. Albufeira was just starting to grow but was was still very qaint. 20 years later we bought a villa in Senhora da Rocha and really didn't visit Albufeira for many years. We took a day trip in 2010 and we were dismayed with the massive change to a homogenised European cheap resort.

    • @AlgarveAddicts
      @AlgarveAddicts  3 года назад

Hi there gsstr, I don't discuss that, although I have addressed it in a few comments. From my point of view, it's tough to live car free in an area like the Algarve. If you're in a centralised city like New York or London it's easy as the public transport is great, in the Algarve we have a 150km long linear collection of towns which makes it more difficult (but not impossible).

Many of my Portuguese friends hate Albufeira, because of the so many tourists. I spent my very first Algarve holiday there and I really enjoyed it. Though there were some really weird English tourists there. 😄 I only visited the amazing beaches in the surrounding areas and never the beach in the Albufeira center because that was too crowded and not so charming. Now I know that there are way better places in the Algarve than Albufeira, even with better nightlife too. 😊

There is a place for everyone in Albufeira and yes sometimes it can be a bit rowdy but there are thousands of other places around the world that are the same and many that are far worse than a bit rowdy. The Old Town is a wonderful place to eat, drink and relax etc with some lovely people of many nationalities and the Portuguese are so nice in every way. I will continue to visit and am sat here now as I write this about fabulous ALBUFEIRA.

i do not think a lot of things are really love or hate. As you can see Albufeira has a lot of different things to offer. if you have been there and you come back it has something you like. If you don't come back it's because you dislike a specific thing. In Albufeira that could be the (too large number of) tourists, wich goes for more places and regions , espescially in July and August.
*addition* i saw a comment about the last 2 minutes , 'one more thing' and that sums it up very good. So a wonderfull place 10 out of 12 months ;)

Or as so many of the British tourists call it "Alba-fury", "Alba-fwera" or "Alba- Führer" LOL. Seriously, put the "e" before the "i" and it seems many of my fellow Brits lose the ability to read!

Yes Portuguese pronunciations are tough for a lot of foreigners. My buddy Joen (from Stay Classy RUclips channel) has some fun ways of saying place names and he's from Denmark.

Yeah, it was a bit odd, I've never done that before. I put grated cheese and ham into a wrap, popped it into the toaster and then filled it with egg. It wasn't the best :)

You mentioned the "narrow streets" but do you know why they are narrow? For all the coastal towns (anywhere where attacks are frequent) it is a defensive strategy. The attackers are funneled into these narrow streets where they can be slaughtered more easily. Thus saving the town from the invaders.

Can anyone answer the question ...
“Why were the Moors not immediately repelled when they came here from Africa?
Why did people not fight for their land ?
    It’s an interesting answer !
    ( well I think it is !😂)
    Your wife might know Nick......
The truth is; they lowered taxes !
So; although the Portuguese didn’t really adopt
the “Islam“, they were happy that the (Moorish) administration charged lower taxes on trade and land !

Albufeira has the worst food in all of Portugal. You can't even buy a Bifana at the snack-bars there because all the food is tailored for Brits. Facepalm.

Albufeira does not represent Portugal, neither Algarve. It's a good place for young Europeans to get drunk with cheap wine or vodka.

Thanks for the lovely video about Albufeira. I just need to point that you forgot to mention that a lot if not all of these punch ups that occur in Albufeira are caused by you English people/ tourists that can’t behave themselves and give the place a bad name. The younger (Portuguese) demographic do not behave like that.

I don't like old town albufeira. It has nothing in the streets on small tourist shops. Very basic looking place. It has a UK atmosphere. No local people in the area. And no local cars. Full of small coffee shops and to many party places. Its very plain looking.. The only good part of it is the beautiful beach.... Your better off visting Spain

    • @AlgarveAddicts

No need to visit Spain, just head down the road to Carvoeiro or Lagos.
