    this is awesome thank you so much
    clear speech, concise explanation, assumes that the audience is smart enough to understand and gets to the point, knows what level people are at in general, not condescending but super up to date information and very easy to listen to. I'm watching this to get warmed up for employment. Thank you very very much for the help

    This is a great video, but I am still having issues sorting. I want to sort 3 columns. I have used the custom sort and chose 3 different colums. It will only sort the first one that is listed. What am I doing wrong? I do this all the time with Excel, but this one will just not work. Thank you for any help.

    Thank you so much. I have learned so much. Question. Trying to help a friend with an excel sheet. Want to sort it by last name, but she has many empty cells in various columns because the info is not in yet. Should I try to place some identifier maybe a comon letter in all of them that I could go back and delete once the sorting is done? There are also columns with IDs containing letters and numbers. If I set them with text format the sorting will be ok, right?

    Chris, great video, but has not quite answered what I was looking for. I want to sort some soccer sports data, the time when a goal was scored. My problem is goals scored in extra time at the end of the first half cannot be recorded as 46, 47, or 48 minutes as the seccond hald clock always kicks off at the 46th minute. So I record them as 45+1 etc. This makes it impossible for me to sort all goals by time as I end up with the first half ET goals as an anomally. Do you have any ideas which can help?

    Is there a way to sort "word" data by how many times it's repeated. i.e Texas Texas Texas Arkansas. Can I sort it by how many times Texas is repeated

      I would create a Pivottable and Count State. Sort largest to smallest. That would work.

    I was trying to sort my rows by the values of the resistors in them.
    The values contained prefixes and decimal points, like 1.5kΩ, 2.2MΩ, 1.5Ω and so on.
    I still haven't found a way to do it.
    This was a list generated by an electronic components distributor, containing the list of components I had ordered, but I needed to get more of them and wanted to easily see which values did I skip so far.

    Help! Working on a budget. Sorting by date works perfectly UNTIL I choose it as the 2nd sort field. If I sort first by type of payment (text) and date SECOND, suddenly 9/4/23 comes AFTER 9/30/23. If I sort only by the date column, they sort as they should. Why?

    • @ChrisMenardTraining
      @ChrisMenardTraining  6 месяцев назад

      send me the file. Nothing sensitive or confidential. Just make a test file if needed. Any chance when you do date as the 2nd field, you are sorting Newest to Oldest? That would explain what is happening.

    • @debbierichards3227
      @debbierichards3227 6 месяцев назад

      @@ChrisMenardTraining Thanks Chris. I am sorting newest to oldest or oldest to newest in the 2nd field and A-Z in the first field. I created a test field, but I don't know how to send it to you.

    it doesn't work... if i want to sort the date ( i have a lot of date( mm/dd/yyy) that i have all mixed up from different years) i cannot sort in the way that you are showing. it keeps almost all the date mixed it .

  • @tutsecret499
    @tutsecret499 Год назад

    So if I format the mixed number and text into number from ribbon panel isn't the same as multiply by 1 method?

    I'm using this formula on a project right now =Sortby($B$5:$C$9,Row(B5:B9),-1) because the Exec Team decided they wanted the 72 individual graphs to be ranked from 5 to 1 instead of 1 to 5 🤯

    In the past it seems like if there was, for instance, the number 1 in a cell and I drug the fill handle downward the cells below would fill with sequential numbers. I could while still holding the mouse button hit the Shift key (or maybe it was Control) and it would toggle between copying the #1 all the way down or filling 1,2,3,4 etc. Am I remembering wrong? It's frustrating not having that feature.

    • @ChrisMenardTraining
      @ChrisMenardTraining  Год назад

      Hello, Jeff. If you type 1 in A1, and autofill down, it will keep doing the number 1. If you want the 2 in A2, and 3 in A3, you can either hold down CTRL and Autofill or use the tip I show around 2:30 in this video on AutoFill ruclips.net/video/Pf4Mtm91Qsg/видео.html I hope this helps.

    I just wish we could sort on a protected sheet. There's an option to allow sorting, but it still won't allow it...that needs to be fixed
