Both are great songs.... Nas won the battle....hands down... Jay bridged a battle rap with a bounce flow....can be played at clubs, radio, and etc.... Either is a song for a mood...which is why it hit so hard. Takeover almost seemed like Jay got knocked out and this was laughing off the punch even though it hurt.

your Nas bias is a joke. U acknowledge that both are great songs but say that Nas won the battle hands down.... . Look the majority declared Nas victor. But from an unbiased fan's perspective The Takeover was a superior diss track.
I think it's contradictive that Jay-Z says, "But I know, the sun don't shine if son don't shine" as a diss towards NaS. Jay-Z dropped a single off of Beanie Sigel's album & a single off of Memphis Bleek's album 😂 "My Mind Right" was a Bleek song & Hov did the remix to it.

The version of I am that dropped in 1998 was a single disc and he promised a second album which came in the form of Nastradomus. In addition I think in 1997-1998 he came out with the Firm. I haven’t heard this ina minute. Dam this definitely classic prime Jigga
Major Hova stan. This was as epic as the moment the beef went down. Brings back memories of heated debates. Still feel Jay lost because he was just never considered the lyricist over Nas. Much like today's Drake and KDot battle. The underdog has to win. Otherwise society will feel some kind of way, about the commercial rapper winning a rap battle against a pure lyricist. I fux with this over Ether personally.

I love Takeover and I love Ether 😂
Same 😅
Same but I think Takeover is lyrically superior
Both are great songs....
Nas won the battle....hands down...
Jay bridged a battle rap with a bounce flow....can be played at clubs, radio, and etc....
Either is a song for a mood...which is why it hit so hard. Takeover almost seemed like Jay got knocked out and this was laughing off the punch even though it hurt.
Takeover was all facts...Ether wasn't
Nas won nuthin. Takeover is much more than a diss song. It's a lesson.
Introduction// Transitions// A fall to launch the conclusion.
Brooklyn boy INCREDIBLE
Takeover was b4 Ether so how is this is like him getting knocked out and laughing ?
your Nas bias is a joke. U acknowledge that both are great songs but say that Nas won the battle hands down.... . Look the majority declared Nas victor. But from an unbiased fan's perspective The Takeover was a superior diss track.
Quotables on quotables, Jay the goat.
Ether
Eminem
He scribbled in his notepad and created his life
I think it's contradictive that Jay-Z says, "But I know, the sun don't shine if son don't shine" as a diss towards NaS. Jay-Z dropped a single off of Beanie Sigel's album & a single off of Memphis Bleek's album 😂 "My Mind Right" was a Bleek song & Hov did the remix to it.
I find it hilarious when Jay-Z stan’s get in their feelings about Ether. But He only had one verse for NaS lol that’s the defense. “It's like bringing a knife to a gunfight, pen to a test
Your chest in the line of fire with your thin-ass vest” Hov should took his own advice. He came with a verse & NaS came with an entire song.
This whole album was legendary

Jay vs Nas was proper rap beef. Everyone going on about Drake vs Kendrick don’t know real rap beef. This was hip hop at its finest

Absolutely awesome magnificent superb
When he says "fell from top 10 to not mentioned at all" ... I hope he wasn't referring to album debut on US billboard cos God's son & Magic are the only Nas albums to debut below top 10 on US billboard.
Think he means Nas was considered a top 10 rapper of all time then at that time he was falling off and wasn’t mentioned at all in hovs mind.
Raah God's son was actually 🥶 as well
@@countmusa1074 wasn't just in Hovs mind. Nas had Illmatic in 1994 and It was written in 1996 but in 1998 he dropped I am which was supposed to be a double disc but it leaked and was heavily bootlegged. The version of I am that dropped in 1998 was a single disc and he promised a second album which came in the form of Nastradomus. In addition I think in 1997-1998 he came out with the Firm. Bravehearts came after Nastradomus...so if you look at Nas after it was Written you can say he was kind of shaky.
Hov basically comparing Nas position in 1994-96 vs Nas in 2001 when this dropped. He aint wrong. Nas came back though with that Stillmatic album. Some real good joints on that, not to mention the stuff on the Lost Tapes (and if you can get the double disc version of I am) show Nas quality never really slacked at that time despite how the music was released.
Underrated!

People have foggy memories. This was hot as fuck when it came out. Takeover is one of the best diss tracks of all time, and overall a better song than Ether, though of course Nas won it with Ether. Nas just held back no punches, but you can’t deny Takover is a better song, has better flow, and the beat is far superior. Jay Z also was showing off and had them funny ass bars going at Nas and Mobb Deep. Nas and Ether took the belt, but Jay ain’t no lame; know that. Real hip hop heads recognize Takeover was a top tier diss
"Nas just held back no punches"
Now that's where you're wrong, Nas wrote 2 disstracks before the released Ether, but they weren't put out, because they were too brutal and disrespectful, so he had soften it up, and write Ether to a new beat.
I also disagree when you say that Takeover had better flow, cause Ether's flow is much better, imo. I agree with the beat tho, it's a Kanye West masterpiece
