Here is our latest view of the Orion Nebula and the Pleiades star cluster. We tried to find the Flame Nebula but, no luck!
When I looked through the eyepiece of this telescope at the Orion Nebula, I saw faint blue hues on the "wings". With Fritz we can see far more of the nebula, along with pinks and purples that were invisible to my eye. For those with compromised eye-sight, this setup is a fun alternative to expensive eyepieces. The only downfall (other than the price) is that you're not absorbing the photons yourself. The camera is.
As photons are emitted from these young stars and the glowing gas around them, they travel for thousands of years in many directions at the speed of light. Some are headed straight for Earth.
Many of the photons headed for Earth crash into the ground, ocean, and atmosphere of our planet. However, some of them managed to crash right into our telescope while we were aiming at it. Our telescope can funnel these photons straight into our eyes, where they end their long cosmic journeys, to become images in our mind.
In this video we are absorbing those ancient photons with our camera's sensor instead of our eyes. These photons set off an alarm in the Camera once they crash into its sensor. Much like your eye does for your brain.
The alarm tells my laptop how intense the photon was, where it hit, and what color it should be. Then, my computer converts that information into a pixel on my screen. The camera and laptop do this for thousands of pixels and can do it up to 16 times a second at the highest resolution.
I hope that explains some of the differences between Electronic Assisted Astronomy (EAA) and Visual Astronomy. There are many more differences between cameras and eyes, and if you know more I'd love to hear them.
Also, if I am wrong about any of this, please let me know!!
    Clear skies!!
