That was SOOOO beautiful! The morning with the lights, the coffee, the bread, the fire, the towsled hair of the little ones. Your baby saying how much he loves to watch smoke. The music!......it was all just food for my soul......very well done.....Thank you for the peace that this brought in a chaotic and sometimes ugly world. I love your videos and I love your hubby just sharing his heart about his vision. Not many women have a man who shares in that way. You are blessed!
Thank you for sharing a small part of your home. The smell of fresh heritage grained bread, strong espresso, egg foods, prosciutto foods all mingling in my head. You set the scene, rise before the rooster crows. The sweet cherubs with tousled hair appear from their cozy little beds, with the sleep still in their eyes. The day begins together at the table, breakfast first, than farm needs tending. I believe one cannot plan a plot of land without knowing who will tend to it. Bellissimo 💝
Glad to see you back, I’ve been wondering how you’re doing. The breakfast montage was beautiful. I love how you put so much effort into elevating the ordinary moments. I’m much more utilitarian and practical, but I love to watch it! I can’t wait to see what you do with the space.
I know this was over a year ago but I am going back watching your playlists and this video got my heart. Those dark early mornings when coffee hits a little earlier then the kiddoes wake up. My hubby works full time in aviation so on his days off we really savor these kind of mornings. Thank you for sharing normalcy of a Christian home of love. 🤍
Your home is so charming! I'm in love with all the little touches and THAT KITCHEN!! Wow! There is something so inviting to your home that is so organic and real. Thank you for sharing with us. :)
You described what you’d like so we’ll I could imagine myself walking along the path to the pond with trees for shade in the heat of summer. Thank you for giving us a peak of your morning routine. Blessings and Merry Christmas to all.
I was working in my woodyard this past weekend admiring all of the nice split racks of white oak, red oak and hickory. If I was closer I'd bring you some! I've got a couple of cords to spare....I look forward to seeing what you do with "the area." I'm sure it will be beautiful! Ordered your new book for Christmas....Hooray! Merry Christmas from back in Alabama!
Y'all have the right ideas about what to do with the space,New to your channel..looking forward to experience the transformation of your property,BY THE WAY LOVE THE BACKGROUND TUNES..
Such a wonderful video! Thank you for sharing the morning family rituals with us all, and for spreading the enlightenment from Monty Don! I am so jealous seeing the cooler weather as we are having terribly warm conditions down here in Australia. All the very best to you and the family for Christmas and New Year!
I vote for an "old" European style greenhouse (glass & wood). Please, no plastic. Fill this with flowers, young vegetable transplants, cuttings etc. Surround this with small trees, a pond and possibly an "old style" gazebo or pergola. A small seasonal garden with some lawn would add to the ambiance. Good luck with the project and enjoy!
Silver birch, Crab apple, Holly, Mountain Ash, Cherry, Beech, Horse chestnut under planted w crocus , snowdrops, daffodil and primrose for spring, coneflower, black eyed Susan, campanula for summer, asters , sedum and grasses for fall , pyracantha and helibores, cyclamen and witch hazel in winter. Change as trees grow to shade plants! Happy Christmas!
Waking up to the notification that you had a new video out was the best way to start my day. I love your videos Shaye and Stuart. Looking forward to following along on your Winter at the Homestead. Thank you, all the way from Jindabyne, Australia.
Shaye, I just have to tell you. I have been watching your videos, they always relax me. When I saw this one, I couldn't help but keeping smiling. I want to tell you why.... Yes, I know some things are staged for the videos -- but, the combination of what is and what is not, is precious. You with your daughter in the morning, her cute little messy hair -- not staged for the camera, and precious. Stu with your little boy lighting the fire. Your husband is right there, and obviously your son has been taught, and continues to be taught, how to handle them. And your daughter as well, lighting the candles on the table, her foundation of teaching on that skill done and she is older and continuing to learn. You guys obviously don't just say "don't touch those, they are dangerous." You teach them that they are a tool. I love the combination of sour dough, fermented pickles, espresso, lashes, dresses, jeans and coveralls; birthing and lipstick & nails. You, my lady, are a pretty amazing woman, who seems comfortable in her own skin, and that of her family. Thank you two for sharing your home and your lives with us. From a 65 year old grandmother ---- your mother must be very proud of you.
This video just popped up in my feed and I am glad it did. This is how I would have loved to start my days but instead I have to rush around getting breakfast and lunches and pushing kids out the door. I have subscribed.
Wow I remember those Washington mornings where it seems like the sun will never come up and then it goes down so soon. Do you guys not want to have pigs anymore? We built an outdoor kitchen this year and the sun was tough so we planted some trees for shade...but I could just not plant shade trees so everything we planted was fruit trees. Has made a nice "little" orchard that will grow to look awesome eventually. Good luck! My sheep are getting big too. Spring is just around the corner...sigh. So much to do! Have new pigs coming next week, build a new greenhouse for seedlings (should be easier to heat than the big greenhouse), finish the sauna and the outdoor kitchen...whew. My wife wants another pond for the ducks and geese too. But that is what makes this so much fun don't you think!!! Merry Christmas.
Lovely. What a beautiful start to the day. Love the garden feeling described. A ‘Secret Garden’, what’s at the end of the drive. It’ll be beautiful. Always is. You 2 have a knack for pulling things together, both inside and outside of your home. Thank you & Merry Christmas! 🎄😃
If you're still deciding what to put in your space may I recommend the article "the winter garden doesn't have to be bare of flowers osu extension". Google search that and it will come up. Not sure if the suggested varieties will grow on your side of the mountains but it's worth checking into. Merry Christmas Elliott Family!
Your home looks so cozy and festive! Gotta love these dark Washington mornings, right? ;) I actually do love that my children sleep later in the morning since it's so dark. :)
We have an open area as well and have been considering what a few already mentioned, a food forest, year long food production with a beautiful feel, we're considering a mulberry tree ( we already have apples and cherry) then adding berry hedges and plum trees, we planted irises this fall. TFS and happy holidays.
Good to see you back! ...Fruit trees, rose trees and bushes, arbors with climbing beauties, berry vines on trellises, benches and whimsical chairs... How about a recipe to that bread!!
How about an edible garden. The food forest filled with edible flowers too. And placing an area of rejuvenation/relaxation in the center with a gazebo with a swing or two in it.
The hawthorn may come back from the roots. My father used to cut the hawthorn hedge back to the ground every few years. It was back to normal height in a year. This was in Northern England, so not so cold nor so hot as your weather .
I was thinking an edible garden, too. I like to combine utility\productivity with beauty and whimsy. I'm in Western Washington, and have been planting perennial gardens and coppices. This year, I've been planting a great deal of willow, Cornus mas, quince, hawthorn and berries. I've got a tiny cider orchard, and am starting on planning an edible native perimeter hedge. How about a berry maze near your pond with "an area of rejuvenation/relaxation in the center with a gazebo with a swing or two in it"? Maybe a fire pit? Consider growing some of the berries on cattle\hog panel arches for some extra charm. How about a perimeter hedge of coppiced hazel\filberts for nuts and fencing material, black locust for fence posts & firewood, pollarded mulberries (Morus alba) for fruit and tree fodder for your livestock? That could look wild and mysterious. (I'm guessing it's too dry for colorful willow arches that are great pollinator forage and can be trimmed & used for building, furniture & basketry material, or fire wood - if you select the right cultivars.)
Can you tell me the name of the tool you use to slice the slit on the top of your bread? (Somehow I am logged in under my daughter's RUclips channel, not mine, hence the profile pic...lol)
I"m a permaculture Orchard fan, diversity and permanence and edible. and grow different things, Autumn olive is a nitrogen fixer that grows in your area and the berries sorta taste like lemonade. so you can use it as one of your trios and then look at maybe apricots and maybe some heirloom varieties, maybe sloe's or odd plum or apple varieties or maybe a few chestnuts, etc. okay a few more apples if you want as well. but love me some trees. Love your idea of a pond in the middle. secret garden inspirational material. I like to grow my flowers in with my herbs and Veggies, I know that sounds crazy, but I like companion gardening, Strawberries love Asparagus, and Roses love garlic and Potatoes and Green Beans protect each other! :) xmas dino went extinct? what? hmmm spello tape to the rescue.
Thank you for a wonderful and inspiring video! After watching this I made my husband and I scrambled eggs with (store bought) prosciutto for breakfast. Just wondering why you don't have your pigs anymore and if you plan to replace them? Thanks again!
Secret garden, pond, meadow. Things to ponder: Do you want the roadway to always be opaque like a hedgerow? Or do you want large spreading trees like a maple/oak alley with spaced trunks? Do you want the drive to be uniform the length of the field, or variable? Do you want large trees? Or do you want them kept small via coppice or pollard? Do you want the pond or the meadow to be the focal point? Do you want the meadow to be primarily a pasture, or play area?
I'm gonna suggest anyway. In the far corner, a copse of coniferous trees to grow tall, such that eventually you could walk below the branches. Perhaps a nut pine like a pinion. Then the copse would spread it's arms along the border along the driveway, interspersed with pollarded trees kept for firewood. Maybe maples or the trendy black locust. Underneath and between the trees a hedgerow of something like bayberry or hazelnut. The other arm of the copse would become a backdrop for a "bramble" of roses; with maybe a cherry here and there. Through which would arc a stream before it wound out into a meadow. A full third of the garden, the meadow could have a scalloped border garden for vegetables of interesting structure or for seed saving. Beside the meadow opposite the driveway, a nice arbor walk down to a seating area. From the meadow the stream would fall into the pond, a sort of paisley shape that contains a wading edge and flowering rushes. The final edge to be an "orchard" of a variety of fruit trees.
I like that idea too but we also have sheep and few trees. I planted forty eucalyptus grandis trees on the property. here in Florida. They were 3 ft tall 2 yrs ago and are now between thirty to forty feet high. Being 73 I didn't want slow growing trees, plus we get more privacy and lots of shade for the sheep and the dogs. Win Win.

I'll definitely look forward to that. Gorgeous, natural morning. I could almost smell that awesome breakfast.
Your home looks so cozy and festive! Gotta love these dark Washington mornings, right? ;) I actually do love that my children sleep later in the morning since it's so dark. :)
I love how you keep citing Monty Don. He is not particularly well known over here, but he is rightly revered back home in the UK.
I love that Stu built the fire the right way
We have an open area as well and have been considering what a few already mentioned, a food forest, year long food production with a beautiful feel, we're considering a mulberry tree ( we already have apples and cherry) then adding berry hedges and plum trees, we planted irises this fall. Dreaming together...good night, love this vlog!
A sweet grouping of fruit trees, a rose bush hedge and rotate your sheep in. :)
Good to see you back!

Just found your channel... Inspiring!!! How did you learn to cook? Keep the videos coming please... Thank you!
Super to see you all! It's been a while 😁
Yes! We're back at it. Stu was building our barn (and he's our video editor) so we were on the down-low fire awhile. But we're BACCCCCK!
I’m always so happy when you upload a video and the so sad when it ends ♥️

I love that stove
Merry Christmas ... The video content was priceless.

Beautiful morning routine. that big space, lots of edibles and flowers almost like a secret garden

Glad to see you guys! Love the background music; what is it called?
Emily H I believe its called we were dancing in the dark by loving caliber
@@wendypregel03 Thank you!
Beautiful morning routine.
Love the huge sprawling tree and the lights twinkling everywhere.
An awful lot of kids with matches though.
Just sayin’.
Hi Shaye! Is your skillet baked bread recipe in one of your books? I would love to try it! Is it fairly easy for a novice?
What are childrens interests and how do you foster them? Are they in a CO-OP homeschool now?
Loved the video! Your house looks beautiful and cozy! Can you tell us more about the bread you made?
a park like area with plush grass where possible with many species of evergreen trees awwwwwwww! :)
Can you tell me the name of the tool you use to slice the slit on the top of your bread? (Somehow I am logged in under my daughter's RUclips channel, not mine, hence the profile pic...lol)
It's called a bread lame
Sounds like he read the book , The Secret Garden, beautiful book !
Small paddock for ponies! That would be the easiest lol. Or a walled garden.
Edge garden nice video 👍
Hi! What ingredients do you use to prepare your coffee?
Love this! Thank you for sharing :)

love it- thanks for making coffee.....
may I ask where you get your green coffee beans? is it an amazon item? thanks
lovely! Merry Christmas to all of you!!!
Merry Christmas!
Thank you for a wonderful and inspiring video! After watching this I made my husband and I scrambled eggs with (store bought) prosciutto for breakfast. Just wondering why you don't have your pigs anymore and if you plan to replace them? Thanks again!
We will replace them each year :)
Beautiful music to go with a beautiful video. Could you tell me where I could find this music?
How long does it take to make your espresso coffee? I love my Mr. Coffee super fast .
Also, which side is north? I started to suggest a forest corner at the far corner, but don't know if that would work.
That was amazing!
I really enjoy your Channel. Merry Christmas from maine :)
What type of espresso machine do you have?
Perhaps a wild permaculture zen garden using local plants and stone.
A berry patch !!!
Do you run a generator to power your house I must know
Put in a herb garden or you can put in a meditation area full of flowers and you can sit and just enjoy
I vote for stone fruit and nut trees maybe some edible landscaping veh and herbs in between for the fish pond
Win Win.
white peach trees
I love your videos!!! Just curious what part of world you live in? And thank you for showing off your homesteading style life! :)
