I remember LOVING this song - it was played on Atlanta's #1 HARD ROCK station back in 1968-69. That station was called "96 ROCK" and played all the newest & best rock songs. (many great 60s rock songs are spiritual)
Great Gospel song based on Psalm 144:15 and Luke 18:14, as "happy is that people, whose God is the Lord." and "he that humbles himself shall be exalted." For that is the way God planned it!
when you walk along someone who has been rejected, 20 years of work stress, brought to a lowly place, but you see the Lord Jesus carrying them through as painful and as hopeless as the situation was, but that someone never gave up on their trust and faith and the help of the Lord in 8 years of pain, then the moment comes when the Lord is about to heal, restore and exalt that person who was brought to nothing, and to confirm it this song came on the car radio and it all was worthwhile, because Gods plans are not our plans, His timing is not our timing, He is preparing hearts and situations and moulding the vessel of our hearts and minds along the way, the sooner we let go and admit we cannot fix it but whatever it takes and how long it takes I will trust in you oh my God and Father.
I'll never forget Billy Preston performing this song at George Harrison's Concert for Bangla Desh at MSG inNYC. Probably the most incredible single show I was lucky enough to attend.
@@moniquekyle8354 Oh wow, she stole tons of money, had him committed, took everything when he passed, had him living in Arizona with (I can't remember who) and If I remember correctly she stopped going to see him when he was sick, yet kept talking that money. And keep in mind, royalties never stop, so I'm sure she probably "conveniently" made herself the person who inherited his catalog, if she hasn't sold it, when he passed. Just a bunch of vile disgusting things is all I can say. I can't really get into details but let's just say I had access to court transcripts and testimony and reading some of that testimony literally put tears in my eyes. Billy didn't deserve to be treated like that. So sad and disgusting.
‘You may not understand or like me, but billy will still love you. That’s the way billy is that’s the way God made billy’ YES that’s the way God made us all…we just need to follow Billy’s lead! Gods love and peace to ALL!!
Heard this song live while he was touring with the Rolling Stones sometime in the early to mid 70's. I think 1975 but I'm not sure. I remember thinking it an odd song to be hearing at a Stones concert but it was electrifying. It's been one of my favorites ever since. It sent chills up my spine then and it still does. Never fails to raise my spirit.
Sang this on stage with my third grade classmates for Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday in 1973. Even at the young age of 8 years old, I knew how GREAT this song was.
It was the Concert for Bangladesh when I first heard this song , I was all of 16,, and it has been with me ever since I am about to turn 65 in this version I can make out ever word whereas theBanladesh's version I reall y did not get several lines,, even though I have only known this version for ten minutes have to say that the relationship to his audience is even more direct and powerful here,,,, wow
Exactly the same, when I was 14 and a half, back in 1981, I bought the Bangladesh álbum. I prefer it because of the minisolos of jesse ed David and Eric intercourse with organ
Love the Bangladesh version but this is ALSO GREAT! AFTER ALL HE IS TALKNG ABOUT GOD! If you don't know GOD is GREAT boy do I pity you. GOD LOVES US ALL. LET'S OBEY HIM MORE AND MORE AND LOVE HIM AS HE SURELY LOVES US. I thank the LORD for giving the world Billy Preston! And so many other BLESSED PEOPLE and other things.AMEN
I saw him on a video singing with Bill Gaither and remembered him singing at a benefit to raise money with a concert for Bangladesh with George Harrison singing this song then.
I heard this for the first time in the Concert For Bangladesh. I immediately fell in love with the song. It's also my favourite version, but then again, that's not so surprising when you think of all the super musicians playing with Billy like George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Leon Russell and so forth.
You couldn't miss that Afro. I had his Music Is My Life album. This particular song wasn't on it, but it did have his hit "Will It Go Round in Circles", as well as "Make the Devil Mad (Turn On To Jesus)".

That's the way God meant it to be. 2 Timothy 1:7 - For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Fuck with that, It Is just great music!
Amen.
@@fernangalindez5188 You're in the wrong house. Are you that blind? Can't you understand, this is Gospel bro. So disrespectful. SMH.
I never knew the biblical reference, thank you for informing me, it makes the song even more special.
Blessed are the poor in Spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of God.
Thank you Billy. This song is still in my head and heart 50 years later. Cheers Y'all!

One of my favourite musician of all time, pass away to early, this song is wonderful and timeless.
Wow!!! Always loved this underrated song, but that version was electric!!
He was phenomenal! Love you Billy! RIP! ❤
Thank you LORD for the plans that you have for us! Great song, Billy Preston

Billy had lost his afro when I met him 11 years later. Bless you Billy

Absolutely amazing. Its a shame that after almost 50 years the message hasn’t been received.
I think it has. We need evil folk in the world to remind us the good are the majority of the world. Bad folk are the absolute minority. Believe!
The message? god does not exist!!!!
In Loving Memory of William Everett Preston...
September 2, 1946 - June 6, 2006
Unfortunately, his smile covered a lot of pain. God bless you Billy.
Yea, that's true and sad, and what his sister did to him before and after he died it's just disgusting. EVIL woman!
What did she do to him?😢

1973 a time for peace and love! Brought to the surface because of a terrible war taking so many people from this earth. How slow we learn!

Billy Preston wrote something that. Who I wonder is listening
Muy bueno gracias!!
Qué temazo!!!! Y qué interpretación!!
You can hear the evoloution of Prince in the chord progression. The elephant in the room. Billy had the biggest FRO. Genius.

Not any relativity to the Artist...........This chord progression is one of the most familiar in music. Listen to Procol Harum>>>>>
Anne Marie Tame I had the pleasure of seeing him do this live at Richards in Atlanta, GA. Amazing, electrifying performance
Una cosa es oírla y otra cosa es ver a esos carajos cantarla,, (con el perdón d la palabra) escucharla es transportarse a otro mundo (Maravillosa)
