    From a local: this wasn’t filmed at 2AM Saturday night…when the guns and knives come out……locals avoid 6th St like the plague.

      Yeah, its funny back to normal (not) wait til 6 months before the midterm elections “smash, grab and burn everything” it will all get F’ed up.

      Yeah, as a local I'll go down to "dirty sixth" on occasion when I have tourist visitors in town to go to a comedy show at Esther's Follies or celebrate Halloween. I just don't stick around on that section of 6TH Street after midnight, that's when it can get sketchy. The bars let out drunk patrons late night and they get preyed on by the homeless and the lawless. Visitors and locals can always hang out on east 6TH and west 6TH where the crowds are smaller and don't get rowdy.

      6th street is usually crowed on Saturday nights you will see fights and cops on horses nothing quite like it anywhere else in the USA not for everybody

    This makes Austin seem like a computer game, Like if you talk to one of the bouncers he'll tell you his favourite beer mug is being held by someone and if you collect and give that person 10 tacos the bouncer will be so grateful he'll give you the key to the secret room...

    My home. I miss it so much! Dirty 6th is safe if you’re not behaving in stupid ways. If you want problems you can definitely find problems. But if you don’t and you act accordingly, you won’t.

    Even though this was during the day, I don’t believe 6th Street is any more dangerous than its comparables: Bourbon Street New Orleans, Times Square NYC, South Beach Miami, Fisherman’s Wharf San Francisco or the Las Vegas Strip.
    You can’t compare any of those to a quiet suburban street.

      True..i guess its always about the timing and characters around

    • @thomasolson1154
      @thomasolson1154 2 года назад +2

      I've never been to South Beach but I have been to all the others but I am pretty sure you haven't. The Vegas Strip is one of the safest places in the country between the city cops and the Casinos army of security who will come out on the sidewalk. Since the cleanup Time Square is just a tourist family place. Fisherman's Wharf??? That place is a family friendly tourist spot that closes down at 7pm. Bourbon Street can get rowdy but there is always a cop within screaming distance. I haven't been to Austin in 3 years but when I was there 6th was rough and you never saw a cop even though everyone knew that Friday and Saturday night it was a crime hot spot.

      Ive been all these places. Conclusion: Any area where the hood hangs...theres always a risk. Doesnt matter the city. The hood is the hood. They are all brainwashed by the same
      culture. So violence will come. And the vegas strip is fairly safe. Downtown & Fremont on the other hand. Ive seen some shit there from my 6 years in vegas.

    This is quite sad, i remember going to UT in the early 2000s. It was the hangout spot for college students late weekend nights. The most that would happen would be a couple of fist fights.

    I was here October 2023, had no hassles whatsoever. I spilled out of Antones at 11.30pm and walked back to my hotel near Congress with no issues at all.
    Infact, I found it laid back and friendly.
    A week later, I was in Times Square, now THAT was a shit hole!

    I visited Austin last weekend and 6th street wasnt at all as bad as people made it out to be. When we were leaving the bars at around 1PM, there was still a heavy police presence. Didnt really feel any more unsafe than Bourbon street to me

    Me and my girlfriend went to sixth street after 10, months ago. I remember the next morning hearing about there were shots fired on the news. The shots had happened pretty much after we had just left, it’s scary thought

    That's one of the best walks in Texas that I have seen. It's very pedestrian-friendly and animated. It looks safe to me. Austin looks to be the best city in Texas, as far as I'm concerned.

    • @richardcogbill6791
      @richardcogbill6791 2 года назад +1

      @@J.C.3 Austin maybe the best city in Texas in that it is smaller than the bigger cities, but it has more in the way of local arts, culture, food, music, outdoors and other things to in spaces easily accessible. You don't have to look hard to find the city, it's landmarks, popular places, it's iconic businesses. 6TH ST is not Austin everything. I prefer all of the nature and that usually what I show my visiting guests the most of when they're here. They get to see dirty 6TH and all the other Austiny stuff, but it's Austin's green spaces they remember.

      Downtown Austin is the most walkable zipcode in Texas. Downtown Houston and Dallas feel dead in comparison. The River Walk in San Antonio is nice though.

      Maybe because Austin had a pretty high vaccine rate amongst its' population, but I don't know about the tourists and now folks all over the U.S. are letting down their guard as the new BA2 strain gets going. I'm seeing more masks wearing at the local rocery stores here in Austin this summer.
