Ahh fond memories of watching SS 98, I was at a friend’s house. The “Highway to Hell” theme song was so memorable to me. I was a big Austin fan so I lived for that awesome main event and was thrilled he won! 💪🔥
Fun facts: WWF Home Video during this period was editing out the PPV logo intros from some of the VHS releases and the Summerslam CG video was one of them. As for why, most likely because of the sponsors since later PPVs had them redone with those sponsors removed. I know AC/DC's Highway To Hell would be another reason but then the other PPVs that got affected like Fully Loaded and Breakdown didn't have licensed music like that. You probably noticed but there were audio problems on this PPV, from the microphones not working for the TV audience at points (live crowd heard it though like when Sable spoke before her match) to the commentary sounding a little off and even having a very awkward echo at one point during X-Pac/Jarrett. I personally liked most of it myself but it was weird since they had nothing like this at other MSG shows. Not sure if these were kept on the Network/Peacock version but the home video tape had post-match promos with Rock, Undertaker & Austin. The only thing it didn't have was X-Pac and them cutting what was left of Jarrett's hair backstage which was shown as highlights a few weeks later on Raw. Notes and thoughts on Rock/HHH -Them cutting HBK saving Chyna on Raw from the recap package was a choice but then I guess it was to stop people from thinking he was coming back out after being on Heat earlier that night. -This and the Heat segment was the debut of Rock's theme that was released on The Music Volume 3. -This is up for debate but this match was probably what led to Rock's face turn (and later swerve) weeks later since the fans there started cheering and chanting for him after that People's Elbow and it continued onwards with the Rock Bottom.
Austin Taker was my favorite match by far on this SS. The weird thing is this literally had 3 or 4 storylines that either died after this ppv or didn't go anywhere afterwards.
Great video! Yeah when i was young sexual stuff in movies like SpaceBalls and Howord the Duck went over my head. Songs like Right Said Fred too. Stone Cold was as popular as anyone has ever been in wrestling then as far as his pop goes. I really enjoyed watching this! Maybe you could do a Survivor Series one like this too someday!

hhh and the rock had one of the greatest ladder matches of all time and that legendary feud come a long way 2 years later from this match they will be feuding for the wwf title they even main event WrestleMania 16 and go down one of the greatest feuds off all time
Myself and my younger brother (who is your age) were PBS kid especially when we didn't always have cable or satellite and we watched wrestling also I didn't know what the money shot meant in 1998 and I was 13 at the time.
I was a teenager during the attitude era and went to a lot of shows when they came to Chicago, including Y2J debut - Stone Cold, the Rock and DX ruled, everything else was very overrated tbh
i don't know if you know but during the stone cold and taker match they collided I don't remember how but Austin talk about it he not the same cause his head got hurt if you notice he was stunned for mojerty of the match but somehow he completet the match and it was great match but i will give the match of the night to hhh and the rock
Denise getting juicy during the opening match, unreal 😉 4 real tho same here in not knowing what Val Venis was about and not getting any of the inuendo's. I didn't know what Al Snow's head was or anythin, lol good times
