7:22 their are TEN ways of getting out in cricket, five are very common and five very rare. 1. caught, 2. bowled, 3. given leg before wicket (lbw), 4. run out 5. Stumped 6. when a batsman removes his or her own bails, usually accidentally (aka Hit wicket) 7. handled the ball - when a batsman handles the ball without permission from the fielding side. 8. hit the ball twice (also known as 'double hit') - as it suggests, deliberately hitting the ball twice 9. obstructing the field - when the batsman prevents fielders from executing a run out or a catch 10. timed out, which is when a new batsman takes too long to appear on the field. It's worth knowing however that for the batsman to be given out, the fielding team have to appeal to the umpire by asking "how's that?"
Outstanding explanation! I'm an American who was encouraged to watch 40+ years ago as a youngster - of course, no internet then! Then had an English roommate at university who was a high-level player at home - ironically, he LOVED baseball! I've struggled to understand ever since. Thanks Mr.! (Sorry, I don't see your proper name in the info above - respect!)
After seeing numerous cricket video's on Facebook and such I wanted to better understand the game. Although their are numerous videos on the subject this video seemed really long compared to others... and for good reason. Very good tutorial/explanations of everyone and everything involved in the game. Kudos to you on the video!
This is much better than the other cricket explainers I've seen! The only real issue is @5:08 when the over ends, the new bowler should be coming in at the other end (and all the field placement has to swap over to match). [Minor issue @9:50: there's no such thing as an "inning" like in baseball; in cricket it's an "innings"]
@@TheSchoolOfSports As I gradually understand the game I realise it's equally (if not more enjoyable than) football. Cricket is scientific. It's a game for people who like using their brains. I am still learning the game. Good day.

Becausd it was explained by cricket fan, knows the game from childhood Not by who is actual baseball fan having half knowledge of cricket, I have seen american things to show baseball higher over cricket with some half based logics ..
You explained cricket really well for people who havent played it but there was just mistake. If there is a draw in an odi or t20 then the winner is decided by a super over. In a super over, the team which batted second bats first for a single over(6 balls) and tries to score as much run as they can with 2 wickets in their hand. And after recieving the target the other team tries to beat the score in a single over and that is how the winner is decided. If the super over is also a tie then the winner is decided by who scored the most number of boundaries in the whole match.
I am Ram Rangaswamy. I thank you for presenting this video in a simple and clear way. All terminologies have been explained to a learner. Nice job done. Congratulations.
As an American this has definitely cleared up a lot of confusion on what the hell is actually going on in a cricket match. Seems very complicated at first and I’m sure there were a lot of details that were glossed over but the general idea is there. Funny how many Americans say cricket is overly complicated yet if you think closely about how a game like Baseball is played and try to explain it clearly to a person who doesn’t know what’s going on, it actually sounds extremely complicated.
may be american goes in technicality of cricket ,they try to understand cricket verbally which is nightmare for them, unless u play it at any level people dont understand game sense of baseball and cricket, I have see many Americans experts put baseball as reference to explain cricket this leads to them more confusion, ,what is importance of rectangular bat in cricket , baseball game sense demand is different than cricket thats why baseball suit round bat honestly i have seen many baseball vs cricket videos are biased , they are compared with baseball stretegy which is worst in cricket, with only bat size logic they have compared cricket. thats give wrong idea of other sports if u do video on sports having mindset like my sports superior than other sports
Im watching cricket from childhood and always thought its the easiest sports to understand, after watching this video now realised its difficult to explain.

Finally I've got a clear explanation of this game ,I will download it for my kids ,
Thank you for this explanation! I'm an American and I've always wanted to learn how cricket worked. Growing up, I had Fox Soccer Channel so one show we got was Sky Sports. I loved watching highlights of cricket and rugby and seeing how hype everyone got even though I had no idea what was going on. Now I finally understand it lol. I'm gonna start watching it now.
the explaination about the rule is so detail even the beginneers can understand the rule
Cricket is a confusing sport. I'm suprised you explained it so easily. Good content!
Glad you think so!
your passion for cricket is contagious!
This is the way how all explaining videos should be done
Thank you so much for the compliment!
Do check out the channel to learn about other sports.

I'm in USA.... pretty cool video. Thank you. I never ever heard the rules before.
Welcome! Since you are from USA I am assuming that you are familiar with baseball 😊 It would be interesting if you can share your first impression about cricket after learning about it?
You explain very well and thanks for this video . The best way to learn cricket is to play video game of cricket . Some best video game of cricket like 1. Real cricket .
2. Wcc 3 / world cricket champions 3.
3 .Sachin sega
And many more
I also learn baseball by video game 😊.
Thank you for the video. I've been trying to understand cricket rules for some time now and this helped a lot. Congrats from Brazil
Really it's a great explanation tq....
Thank you so much.... there are no words to admire you, that's much this valuble for me & this knowlegment make a best understanding about cricket..so, now i am going to watch T20 world cup series😍❤
Yeah!! T-20 World Cup! Fun Time Ahead!
You said it all, thanks a lot! Greetings from Chicago, IL, USA
Am I the only one that doesn’t know cricket and is watching this to- watch ipl
I too am here for the same😂
You're not alone buddy
Me too

OK ,don't play it in the house😅😆
You will break something
Also, I really appreciate the making of this video , because I am a Cricketer myself and a lot of Americans sometimes hate on the sport
And everything he said was true
Thank you!
Breaking things in house and neighbors house is common thing growing up in India :) I am glad you liked it.
@@TheSchoolOfSports Really and truly, Thank you for making this video👍
7:22 their are TEN ways of getting out in cricket, five are very common and five very rare.
1. caught,
2. bowled,
3. given leg before wicket (lbw),
4. run out
5. Stumped
6. when a batsman removes his or her own bails, usually accidentally (aka Hit wicket)
7. handled the ball - when a batsman handles the ball without permission from the fielding side.
8. hit the ball twice (also known as 'double hit') - as it suggests, deliberately hitting the ball twice
9. obstructing the field - when the batsman prevents fielders from executing a run out or a catch
10. timed out, which is when a new batsman takes too long to appear on the field.
It's worth knowing however that for the batsman to be given out, the fielding team have to appeal to the umpire by asking "how's that?"
There is one more way known as mankading but you can take wicket of batsman at non strike end by this method.
This video is really helpful for those who are try to learn how to play this wonderful game.
Oh gosh! How I have missed on this beautiful game!!
Yeah!! It's beautiful! Welcome to the world of cricket brother!
What impressed you most about the cricket?
@@TheSchoolOfSports As I gradually understand the game I realise it's equally (if not more enjoyable than) football. Cricket is scientific. It's a game for people who like using their brains. I am still learning the game. Good day.
@@eagleeye2887 Your ability to appreciate the beauty of game is precious! Keep it like that 😊
@@eagleeye2887 Where are you from?
@@SutirthaSil7396 Zambia, central Africa. I wish the ICC could do something in compelling our authorities to fund or support the beautiful game at grassroots level especially in secondary schools like they support football. Do you think you can help? That would be great!!! Good day, my brother.
This is literally the best cricket explanation video i have ever seen...I have understood everything about cricket! Thanks a lot....
Thank you so much! 😊
Becausd it was explained by cricket fan, knows the game from childhood
Not by who is actual baseball fan having half knowledge of cricket,
I have seen american things to show baseball higher over cricket with some half based logics ..
I search for a long term to find a best video for cricket,u did it thank u very much😍
Thank you for explaining cricket so clearly
You explained cricket really well for people who havent played it but there was just mistake. If there is a draw in an odi or t20 then the winner is decided by a super over. In a super over, the team which batted second bats first for a single over(6 balls) and tries to score as much run as they can with 2 wickets in their hand. And after recieving the target the other team tries to beat the score in a single over and that is how the winner is decided.
If the super over is also a tie then the winner is decided by who scored the most number of boundaries in the whole match.
not in odi
@@pranavgandhar4604 what "not in odi"?
Agree with Tom Glaza. Yours is the most understandable description of Cricket I have seen. Thanks and well done. =)
I am Ram Rangaswamy. I thank you for presenting this video in a simple and clear way. All terminologies have been explained to a learner. Nice job done. Congratulations.
U did the best job explaining! Always wanted to know how to play..
Thank you so much! Enjoy cricket 😊
This guy needs an award. Period.
Thank you sir!
As an American this has definitely cleared up a lot of confusion on what the hell is actually going on in a cricket match. Seems very complicated at first and I’m sure there were a lot of details that were glossed over but the general idea is there.
Funny how many Americans say cricket is overly complicated yet if you think closely about how a game like Baseball is played and try to explain it clearly to a person who doesn’t know what’s going on, it actually sounds extremely complicated.
may be american goes in technicality of cricket ,they try to understand cricket verbally which is nightmare for them, unless u play it at any level people dont understand game sense of baseball and cricket,
I have see many Americans experts put baseball as reference to explain cricket this leads to them more confusion,
,what is importance of rectangular bat in cricket , baseball game sense demand is different than cricket thats why baseball suit round bat
honestly i have seen many baseball vs cricket videos are biased , they are compared with baseball stretegy which is worst in cricket, with only bat size logic they have compared cricket.
thats give wrong idea of other sports if u do video on sports having mindset like my sports
superior than other sports
This has got to be the best most detailed video on cricket.. And the comments from grateful viewers are hilarious..
Im watching cricket from childhood and always thought its the easiest sports to understand, after watching this video now realised its difficult to explain.
I didn't know cricket very well so thanks for teaching me
Thnq sir......finally I understand the rules of Cricket😌
Excellent explanation! its great to hear the passion you have for the game in your voice. thanks for making this video!
Thank you, I never understood it and found it very boring but after knowing the rules I will def watch it.
Indeed! Mostly we find things boring because we don't know them well enough! I am glad that you can enjoy cricket now! I have video about other spots so if you want to know about them do check out my channel! Thank you!
I never understood cricket until I watched your video. Now, I have a fundamental understanding of the positions, the game, and the scoring. But not the rules…which I have been led to believe can be quite complex.
Start watching matches or compilation of sixes or wickets.Build up some curiousness and interest and learn the rules as you go along
Great explanation of the sport of cricket. Watch this video over and over again till you internalize the rules. Cricket is an easy sport to learn
Incredible explanation. I'm understanding the pieces of the game better, now to watch and put my knowledge to the test. Thank you for this video!
Thank you. Very good explanation. Watched baseball all my life and I can see how baseball developed from Cicket and Irish game called rounders.
Welcome! 😊 Rounders! I got to check that out game. I am not familiar with that one. Is it popular?
@@TheSchoolOfSports Wikipedia states Rounders started in England and then Ireland. It’s like baseball with batter batting with one hand and no fielder gloves. Apparently still played.
@@Mr.Ed_Wayner 1 handed batting! That would be perfect for me as I am pretty good tennis player. 😊 I'll try to join rounders fb group and check with them more about the game 😛😛 Gotta learn about rounders!
Fantastic video. Thank you for the explicit and clear explanations of all aspects of the game. I have read and watched a lot of explanation videos to help me coach a Grade 5 & 6 team for our school, and this is by far at the top of them all. Thanks so much. Your passion oozes out and it is infectious.
LOL, the best explanation of cricket using basic graphics. Bravo and good job.
I definitely need to revisit this video to understand the whole idea but it's a great video of introduction of cricket for beginners. Well done!
You did a great job explaining that! Thanks!
I’m going to watch a match soon. 🙂
I read in class 9. Tomorrow is my P.E exam and I'm watching ur cricket and basketball video to pass the exam 😅 thanks so much 😊 ur explanation really helps me understand better ✨
This is the most informative and simply explained video I've seen. Thanks
