Some of the most beautiful words I've ever heard when ask why he chooses to live there. Looks heavenly but I can't imagine how cold the wind and rain can be.
I had the pleasure of living in Cnoc, just outside Stornoway (over the Braigh), for two years and I can honestly say there is no way of life quite like it. I went up for a year initially, but the warmth of the people and the landscape and experiences meant I wasn't ready to leave after that first year there. Once you spend a little time doing as the locals do - I cut peat on a friend's croft, helped scrape barnacles off the hull of a community boat, lifted escaped lambs out of the cattle grid over the driveway to my house - the place takes a little piece of your heart that will never belong anywhere else. I still feel a sense of pride of having lived a little moment of that life, and listening to Ally talk about why he stays and why he does it makes the most perfect of sense. There is magic up there, and a humour and warmth to the people that I have never experienced anywhere else. The howling gales and the waves crashing over the roads and the salt on the air become a part of who you are when you're there.
I’m so glad that you had that experience and lived a portion of your life, in such a magnificent and beautiful part of the world with such warm hearted people.❤❤❤🙌🏻
Oh my goodness Ally you had me in tears at the end of this never a truer word was spoken guard your heritage with your life. Thank you so much ❤😮really enjoyed this and a big thank you to Ally, Ben and Kristoff absolutely brilliant xxxxx
Thanks you for sharing this! So interesting and educational. Farming and ranching is a difficult life even here in the US; but there on the island would be really tough. Takes a special breed of person to make it. Thank you to Ally also for sharing so much!
Ally's words at the end are so dignified. Coupled with the footage of the rugged coastline and the focus shot of the sheep, I found it incredibly moving.
What an awesome video. It looks beautiful in a rough, rustic way. Those are some tough people to live on a small island like that and have the farming the way they do. Thank you for sharing this with us. God bless. 😊❤
I love Ally and his passion. He's a quiet legend to those of us outside his community. And I wonder if that sheep looking around at the views, is being as passionate about the island as Ally is. They both look as if they 'own' their land. A fabulous video and if we can see more of Ally and the people he shares the island with, that would be great. Thanks Ben and Kristoff for sharing this with us xx
We have stayed in they wee houses and they are the most cute and cosy wee places, quite romantic really 🥰 would definitely recommend it if you fancy a quiet time away from the rest of the world it’s great! That wee man in there is so lovely I’ve fallen in love with his character ❤
How inspiring are his words towards the end of the video. Its an eyeopener for me, the pride he has for his family history ,the Isle he's living on and the work he's doing! 😊
Thanks for this fabulous insight into living and working in such a beautiful but remote Island. I love Ally’s work ethic and loyalty to his forefathers, may he continue to thrive in his own success.
GOOD EVENING BEN ALLY AND KRISTOFF THANKS SO SO MUCH FOR BRINGING US ALONG ALLY IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL PERSON TO LEARN FROM A WEALTH OF INFORMATION IN THE SHEEP TRADE HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL AND A WONDERFUL 2025
I enjoyed this video. Good job guys! 😊 Btw Ben, you are looking alot like your Dad in this video. More than I have noticed before. ❤ Ally it made heart swell when you said what you did about why you live there. Very honorable and passionate. ❤
Such a fantastic video, second time watching it! A few weeks ago I did suggest to Cammy about doing a podcast with you(Ben), Cammy, Ally, HoofGP, Alzs Couzens with Iona hosting and would still love this but maybe include Pete and perhaps Iona’s Dad - would be a great vision of farming in parts of Scotland. My partner’s pal is an arable farmer in Dunfermline so had a different perspective from you guys but just support all you guys
