  • Dear Friends,
    Stanley the New Engine had fallen far from grace since his arrival, and remained in hot water with the manager and the other engines.
    One day, however, he got his chance to prove his worth again. This story shows you just how successful he was.
    CHAPTERS:
    00:12 - Manager's Debrief
    01:26 - Miner's Train
    01:58 - Desperate Times
    03:18 - Stanley, Sally and The Directors
    04:58 - Stanley's Blunder
    06:16 - Stanley's Honesty
    06:38 - Director's Decision
    08:25 - Stanley's Fate
    09:31 - Credits
    Special thanks to Toby ( / old_vera ) for letting me borrow his John and Tim models for the filming of this story.
    Don't forget to check out Stuart's first part of the VLE duology:

    My blood ran cold when the power plant was mentioned. Anybody who knows this railway's history knows what that means; Stanley has doomed them all, and he doesn't even realize it.
    Truly phenomenal work. Cinematography is striking and editing, voice acting, and music is so perfect. Highly atmospheric. You've done Awdry's Mid Sodor far more justice than the TV Series did.

    Say what you will about Stanley, but Duke doesn't come out of this looking good, either. He came off as pompous and egotistical and seemed to take a disliking to Stanley before Stanley had even done anything to him.

    Stanley should of kept his mouth shut. By badmouthing the narrow gauge railway, there was little work and very little use of the railway. Two engines were bought and duke was kept in his shed for a long time once the line closed. Stanley, was still at the back of the sheds. Abandoned, rusting and alone while time moved on.

    • @toby070
      @toby070 2 года назад +9

      True, he really doomed the Mid Sodor. On the other hand, in his panic towards the directors and anger towards Stanley, the Manager did not fully explain WHY the directors were there to Stanley, and the Mid-Sodor's potential rocky future. If the manager and even Duke told Stanley, then perhaps there might have been a chance for a different outcome.
      It is like what I have seen with the first part; you get the feeling that while Stanley is the worst of the lot, though no-one are saints in this story.

    "You managed to bring the whole railway down as I once said you would!"
    Nice callback to the Extended RWS book 'Mid Sodor Engines". And indeed, Stanley had brought down the MSR's reputation with his rough riding and not to mention causing trouble for the business people of the Peel Godred Power Company. Also nice to see the Fat Controller in it as well too.
    The tone of the manager's voice really shows how much he's had enough of Stanley's behavior. Wonder what the next stories would bring.

    Tbh, I still have no clue how Stanley could even act like an American because despite being built in the United States, his class was never used in the US at all. The Baldwin 10-12-D 4-6-0PTs were built solely for First World War to support the Allied forces on the WDLR in France and Belgium, resulting in them being hastily-built (rushed building = drop in quality). After the war, the class was sold off into private and industrial use but once again, not the US. This could mostly be due to many UK narrow gauge railways being 2ft or 1ft 11 1/2in while in the US, narrow gauge is 3ft. In simple terms, these are the "Yankee" engines that will never see the country of their birth again.

      @@russellgxy2905well, the 4-6-0 10-12-Ds worked for France l britush, and Belgium armies. The 2-6-2 10-12-1/4Ds did however work for the US armies. Although as far as I know only 3 that went to the front lines were sold off for civilian service with the rest being dispersed around. Although there were a ton built by Davenport and Vulcan iron works that didn’t end up being shipped over but those went to American civil work (look up the lost river railroad and the fort Benning light railway)

    Surely that wasn't Stanley's really last straw. Surely Stanley did work on the Horse and Cart train once before he was derailed by a flock of sheep and torn his frames apart. Maybe that's why he was turned into a generator, as part of his poor behavior. As for the power station, I know he was actually telling the truth.

  • @thelicensednerd1626
    @thelicensednerd1626 2 года назад +6

    In my opinion that manager's just a bit of an asshole I mean Stanley was telling the truth while he was lying to the businessman surely he should be forgiven for that

    • @Trainboy9681
      @Trainboy9681 2 года назад +4

      I think the context is that the businessmen were looking to build the powerplant at Peel Godred - A scheme that, thanks to Stanley's naysaying, led to the closure of the MSR - So essentially Stanley just ensured the railway would close. Say what you like, but that's a pretty big deal

    • @greatwesternproductions2857
      @greatwesternproductions2857 2 года назад +6

      Going by Awdry’s lore, Stanley caused the line to be closed.
      In 1946, the final mine to still be open was experiencing lots of leakage meaning that the last source of revenue for the MSR was being lost. In despair, the manager sent Stanley up to the mine to help pump the water out. Unfortunately, Stanley failed. The mine flooded and the MSR had no other choice but to close. Stuart and Falcon were sold off, Duke was sheeted up in his shed and the rest, as they say, is history.
