See, I had this as a copied video (it hadn't come out in the UK yet on video or DVD and we couldn't get time to watch it at cinema) and this was the voice I remember. Then when it came out in UK and we bought it on DVD, it was Jonathan Ross instead. And it just never felt right 😂. My parents never watched the copied version as it was really grainy, so they didn't understand the fuss my brother and I were making about it. The UK edit felt like an imposter, that we thought it may be a fake 😆.

I think she is supposed to be atleast partially based/inspired by Cinderella stepsister Anastasia who goes through redemption arcs in the sequels, and whom Disney clarifies isn't "ugly" uts just that when she compares herself to other girls she is a little on the plain side and not as graceful
I really like how the producers didn't use her as some comedy background character. They actually put her into the baby shower and other stuff that the ladies in the movies did. Props to them

They later build on this subversion by having her as a part of the secondary cast of heroes in the third entry.

This is why I think Shrek the Third deserves more recognition for giving Doris the screentime she deserves and also for being the movie I quote the most often.
One thing I love about Doris is her honesty especially with herself. Even though she knows her infatuation with Prince Charming is not the healthiest but a least she is true to her own feelings, unlike Rapunzel.

It’s because this is basically the main overarching theme of these movies, Shrek always felt rejected and lonely because of how people looked him as a monster but he always was a good fellow that became the monster people expected him to be. Doris isn’t conventionally attractive like Shrek, but they’re more than what the fairytales portray them to be.
I always imagine Doris being Shrek's version of Anastasia just because Disney made Anastasia a good guy in the second Cinderella. Especially the color of the dress.
They were so ahead of their time with how inclusive they were with characters that literally anyone could love/ relate to and I think that’s why the Shrek movies are so loved 🥰

It’s because this is basically the main overarching theme of these movies, Shrek always felt rejected and lonely because of how people looked him as a monster but he always was a good fellow that became the monster people expected him to be.
Doris isn’t conventionally attractive like Shrek, but they’re more than what the fairytales portray them to be.

They were so ahead of their time with how inclusive they were with characters that literally anyone could love/ relate to and I think that’s why the Shrek movies are so loved 🥰
