  • Oak-Grove Bellemeade Elementary School (Richmond Public Schools) was designed to serve as a teaching tool for Pre-K-5 students. A green building, the school's layers are strategically and transparently 'peeled back' throughout the learning landscape to illustrate concepts of environmental awareness and energy use.
In addition, the school building itself serves as a transparent interface between the children and their community. Interior graphics and wayfinding techniques educate students about their local, surrounding natural world, inviting stewardship of the environment. "Shared use" of the school's educational and recreational spaces between students and the Bellemeade community invites community participation in student success and 'raising' a new generation of leaders.
