Here's what I know or think I know from mine. It's a MK1a, looks the same as the 87-89 model but the trim pieces won't fit together. Headlights are electric, if there's any change in sound it should just be from the power draw to the alternator. There's usually rust hidden under the spare tire. Spray nine is very good for cleaning seats, just dampen the surface with water, then spray Spray Nine on, wait 5 minutes, wipe off. It's sold at Walmart in the automotive section. There's a bracket that can replace the "crane" or "spider" throttle bracket in the engine bay called the Jimi Bracket that's a pretty good modification for MK1 cars. The oil system is a bit weak, change the copper crush washers in the oil lines, keep up on oil changes, and consider deleting the stock oil cooler. They sell an acceptable replacement for the door car cloth at Hobby Lobby. That's all I can think of now, it's 4am...
Nice. I just picked one up with only a couple previous owners, evidence of being garage kept, excellent shape, original paint in good condition. I have driven and owned much quicker cars but this one feels like a forever car. So much character. Handles so good. No power is part of the charm. Enjoy. Get some Koni yellow strut inserts and adjust the rear stiffer than the front to make it handle better and still feel stock. Replace the rubber bushings with polyurethane to get back the new car feel.
I just bought mine this past summer from the original owner all original minus the stereo and the rims. She bought it from San Dimas Toyota years ago. Seeing the original pink slip was crazy
Great Car! Make sure you get a dash cover bc it’s rare to see one in such great condition as yours . Also make sure you always use Premium gas & whenever you service the vehicle use Platinum Spark Plugs.
