sometimes I use the Apple Watch to take the picture, mainly because is really windy and the tripod shakes and lose the 30 sec option, so to avoid that, I use the watch

I used a timer the last time I shot some astro photos only because I didn’t have my tripod with me and I had to prop my phone between two objects where it was difficult to reach the shutter. Then I smacked my head and realized I could just use my watch to trip the shutter. When I do have my tripod, I just tap the button and take the photo.

I use a remote shutter more for convenience as you can point your phone on its tripod anywhere and you don’t have to think about touching the screen on a funny angle,I sometimes put my phone in the tripod and use it like a selfie stick so I can stand up and take photos from low down using the remote shutter button ,also you can get one for £5 so why not

sometimes i will use a mouse plugged into the phone to do it. when it gets really cold out, the screen protector I have doesnt like to register finger touches unless i really touch firmly (finger gets cold lol). so having a usb-c to usb-a adapter and then my logitech mouse dongle plugged in gives me cursor control like ipad magic keyboard. can even map one of the mouse buttons to be volume up/down to act as a remote shutter. But i mainly do this because im still trying to figure out some of the algorithms the camera apps use, and i want to be able to change settings and click buttons without moving/bumping the phone between shots. otherwise, my solution is a bit overkill

Have you thought to use an apple watch, or a siri command?
    Love the great work

i wasnt really a fan of the timer because of the flash. sometimes i would take pictures of my backyard illuminated by faint moonlight, and the flash would throw off the exposure. maybe i was doing it wrong 😅

My selfie stick/tripod thing came with one, so I'll give it a crack. I've just downloaded ProCamera too, and Even Longer - for 2 different types of shooting. But I'll see how it goes. Thanks for your videos mate.

It wasn’t until the end that I realised you were referring to a countdown timer 🤦🏻‍♂️

For all the millions of Bloody Legends who hang on Shayne's every breath...
and then proceed to completely ignore everything he's ever said...
the custom voice Shutter Release command that I shared on Facebook works in night mode. It'll probably also work with the phrase "Shayne is a bloody Aussie bleep bleep" too!!!
    Enjoy🤣🤣🤣
[My custom voice commands ceased working after updating to iOS17.4.1. Re-recording the commands solved the problem, at least until the next update!!!]
