    We need a head to head with this, a tone master, and a silverline. I think a lot of people want to move away from tubes but want to keep the tone and their pedals. Those seem to be the best options for that crowd.

    • @Jeremy-ob4gm
      @Jeremy-ob4gm 4 года назад

      Ryndan Riley which one do you think is best for a fendery clean tone that’s takes pedals well?

    • @Sir_Dickbag
      @Sir_Dickbag 4 года назад +3

      Jeremy This amp in my opinion. The Tonemasters have jensen-type speakers which suck for pedals, at least amp-in-a-box type pedals. Silverlines are decent but excel most for in-between tones. Pure cleans and high gains aren’t great. The Nextone reminds me a lot of the Blues Cubes. I used to have the Cube Artist and it was easily the best non-Fender Fender I’ve owned.

    • @WarrenPostma
      @WarrenPostma 4 года назад +1

      He did make enough video on the tone master to tell me it's not a good pedal platform for high gain or fuzz or a lot of distortion or boost. The katana and the nextone are both far better pedal platforms. The fender seems really good but not quite there yet at taking a high gain pedal in front and doing musically nice things.

    • @brandonf5432
      @brandonf5432 3 года назад +1

      @@Sir_Dickbag Interesting. I was debating between this and a Tonemaster Twin as a clean pedal platform but I think I will go with the Nextone now.

      I got a Nextone special. With just a gafc pedal its awesome. It eats up pedals too. I get the best fender pedal platform tones out of this thing. I don’t bother with other amps anymore

    I'm fortunate enough to own a Nextone Stage and a Tonemaster Deluxe. They are really very different amps. Both brilliant - just different. I have just set up a patch for my Nextone copying these settings exactly. Sounds fantastic - thanks Shane.

    Wow!!! This is crazy. I just tried this amp in store today with a strat and was blown away by it!! Within 5 minutes I knew it was gonna be my next amp 😄 I usually just play at home so I ran it at .5 and half watt modes in the music store and it was plenty loud on lead with .5 and the gain cranked. With that I could dial in the volume at any level and it sounds great 👍🏽 from home practice level to small jam level and above... the presence knob was also very powerful. With the presence turned all the way done I was able to get very convincing vintage Marshal sounds as well as fender as well

    Sounds good Shane. I just bought one of these and did a gig the other night practically straight out of the box. I had a Katana 100 which is good but wasn't totally convinced with its clean sounds, but the Nextone Artist is a killer- I thought I was playing through my old Twin Reverb- and I have had 6 of those over the years, too heavy for me to lug around now. Looking forward to tweaking the software, but really I like just putting my pedals in front of the amp.

I'm a big fan of these amps have been playing them for years and it would be really cool to see you revisit the trademark 60. You can get them for Crazy Cheap these days and they are usually in good working order. Top quality all analog made in USA amp that not enough people know about. Les Paul played one up until his death and called it the best amp he ever had.

    Nextone Artist 80 is the bomb. BluesCube without the high cost. (But Blues Cube is awesome.) I do not miss my Katana Artist MkI. I sold Ktn100 for the KtnArtist for full sound of the Waza speaker and larger cab. But, the Nextone has it all. I can dial in whatever I want and switch to four realistic classic amp circuit platforms in one box. Tube lovers would need at least four different amps $$$$. Then, could never turn up to get the best tone. Tube lovers have no problem with their Helix or Kemper etc., but have problem with a Katana Nextone or other non-tube amp.
    The Nextone does one job. It's an amp with key useful effects that enhance the tone. No more, no less. Use or tweak presets and you are done. Tweak at venue like tweaking a EQ pedal if needed.
    I never used all the Katana effects playing Blues R&B NeoSoul. Also use Boss GT-1 and my modeling software. Use my GT-1 for Phaser Vibe or extra Delay effects when needed. Its portable a jam with friends or at Church.

    So if you keep purchasing more and more amps as we all do, will you know when you have found one that you like? Will you keep shopping?
    I just moved all my non tube amps out of my music room. Now they are stacked all over the rest of my house. I have to figure out what to do with them.
    My tube amps are now what I use exclusively. Why? Tone. Maybe also I'll add that tube amps have a way of interacting with my playing and for sure every tube amp that I own sounds better the longer I leave it powered on. After 8, 10 and 12 hours I am blown away from the tone and interactivity. My none tube amps, well they sound the same after 5 min. or 12 hours. If you don't play all day you shall never experience how good your tube amps sound when powered on for such long periods of time. Believe me, it took me many years to make this discovery.
    I love the tone of my tube amps so much that I really like to play them all day every day. I don't do it for the money, I play for the feeling and joy of playing.
    -Peter
    Notice I did not put this amp down. I like my non tube amps. But I don't love the tone. Because I have enough tube amps to play them in rotation to conserve them I even play them for every conceivable reason why I would every use an amplifier. You are not me, but I just can't see my self ever purchasing another non tube amp.

    Not that I need another amp, but it does sound good. Double the price of a Kantana good? Don't know about that. You'd have to think with the power specs that it shares a bit with the Katana. One good thing with the Boss amps is the foot switch is universal and can plug into any of their newer amps.

      I have it for mainly home use, great tone on low volumes, however if you need it to be loud it will be really loud. The trick in the abilities of the amp is in the tone editor, you can get way better tone then deafult and enjoy the amp, and the speaker needs a breaking in, sounds better with playing

    The Nextone is an amazing amp but it's all about the editor software. You can literally dial up everything from shimmering clean tones to way over the top high gain. Saying it's a Blues or classic Rock amp is doing it a great disservice. EQ, sag, bias, is all in the software. In my opinion, it completely smokes the Katana. It has way more balls, versatility and is more realistic and professional.

    Shane, what is your opinion regarding who these are for and for what music genre? Nextone Artist vs Katana Artist MkII. Similar to you, I like cleans / dirty clean for blues, classic rock, jazz, neo-soul. Had the Katana Artist I, and only used a few effects for favorite artist or particular songs. I only play at home.
    Cab size and speaker comparison... I sold my Katana 100 to get the Katana Artist MkI with it's larger cab and Waza speaker. The difference was night and day in fullness of sound. Is it fair to say the smaller cab of the Nextone Stage sounds very different than the larger cab of the Nextone Artist?

    I still own the Fender Mustang III V2 with the stock speaker. I only play at home so I need to keep the volume down to stay friends with the neighbors! I mainly play blues and some rock and I like clean tones but also a bit distortion , but not to much. What do you think about the Boss Nextone Stage or Artist compared to the Mustang? Would that be a big improvement over the Mustang? The Boss Nextone has an attenuator switch. Is that different to the master control on the Mustang? If the attenuator switch is switched to the lowest setting, does the Boss still sound good with some distortion? I am also hesitating between the Boss Nextone or the Roland Blues Cube. I've seen a few demos of this AMP, each one sounds different? I did notice that you placed your mic in the centre of the speaker, hence it sounded too bassey to my ears, compared to when you had it hooked up to your Mac - Have you tried different mic placements, I would try half way between the centre and the edge, that should give you a balanced tone. Also the distance from it will affect the tone too. Like many it would be interesting to compare it to a Katana, I have one and I think it sounds great, it would be amazing if the Nextone has an edge on it. Thanks for the demo, loved the intro of you playing.

    Shane - I have the Katana 100 (not MKII) and was considering moving to the Nextone Artist or Stage. I only play at home and generally play SRV type blues or clean tones. I have noodled with the K100 Tonestudio fairly extensively including the master EQ to get a Fender Princeton and Super Reverb sound (at least to my ears). I’m not necessarily into tweaking all the time but not afraid of it either. I’m only using the GFC boss pedal for my pedal board. I do like the concept of simplicity. Two questions: 1) is there a global EQ for the Nextone (or is not needed). 2) Do you think the Nextone is worth the upgrade from my K100 or do I just have GAS? Thanks

    Shane ,
    So what u said the Fender Tone master twin has a more organic sound than either the Katana Artist or Nextone? How do mean more tube like?

    Definitely won't be getting rid off my tube amps anytime soon. The lower strings with overdrive/ distortion sound terrible. I tried a friends Marshall code 100 recently, it was the same.

      I have a Nextone Stage. It doesn’t compare to my boutique tube amps sound wise, but it’s also about $2,000 cheaper, lighter, smaller, and I’d be a lot happier if it got broken or stolen. These are great for pedal-platforms and entry-level, and pro-level use in certain situations but it’ll never replace my others.
      I will say you need to hear the Nextone live though. For its price it kicks butt.

    Is it correct, that the power tube settings in custom mode are shared by the clean and the lead channel?
    I tried it yesterday. I was able to change the EQ and the Effects individually for clean and lead but the power amp tweakings seem to be global for both clean and lead?

    Shane, what do you think of that amp at low volume? I have a Katana for a practice amp and I like it because I've gotten it to sound pretty decent at low volumes. I live in a neighborhood -- a society, if you will -- and can't really bust out the Matchless or my beloved AC30 every time I want to noodle around. I'd be put in jail, probably. So the Katana's good but would this be better? Should I just get a Helix or something?

      I have the stage version for 3 days now, the trick in this amp is in the editor, noodle a bit with it and get a sound you like(for me it does not matter is it a tube sound or digital one, if I like it I like it, if I dont I dont, simple as that), the cleans are exellent for me 6v6 clean compare to hot rod deluxe in some cases sounds nicer, to get the VOX sound not so good(my luck that I don t aprecieate that kind of sound too much), for me low volume sound is good, reallly good, difficult to get that with a tube amp and I tried several, and I have to say even at 0,5watts it can be pretty loud....so far so good for me, I am extremely satisfied, however it does not mean that you will be

      @@viroh9176 Are you happy with your Nextone? I'm don't think I'd like the 40W Stage with it's smaller cab. I did not like the Katana 100 with small box. I upgraded to the Katana Artist and loved with larger cab and better speaker. The speaker is critical.

    Katana 100 V2, Blues Cube Artist, or Nextone Artist? I'm trying to decide between the three. The Blues Cube was my favorite, but it has fewer options and costs more.

      If you are only playing at home you'd be better off with an interface, some monitors, and software emulation like Amplitube. I have the Blues Cube Artist and since setting up Amplitube 4 rarely bother to even turn the Blues Cube on. If you need to play at jams or gigs sure a BLues Cube is a better option than software - but for home use they are pretty poor.
      I also have a Roland Microcube - and for home use I'd rate it as preferable over the Blues Cube as well.

    Hey would this amp be suitable for home practice? Im after something that has good tube like cleans that wont be too loud. I was thinking of getting a Blues junior IV but heard those won't sound good at low to medium volume as they are at their best when cranked up. Also how does this compare with the Roland Jc-22

    • @8sigreg
      @8sigreg 4 года назад +1

      Ccmusic It doesn’t emulate tube distortion, it emulates how a power amp, transformer and phase inverter react to the speaker at volume using discrete solid state. No modeling, it’s just nicely designed solid state. It definitely needs to be turned up to get the power section working and then it feels like a good tube amp.
