    The difference between tube emulations IS subtle. It should be. This is very much the sort of difference you would experience if you took the SAME guitar, with the SAME pickups and played it on each of these individual amps at similar settings. I think that's a very good indication of a quality product. For a long time now we've been exposed to an endless series of stompbox emulators and modelers that have been very little more than MIDI controllers. They say "push this button, and you'll be playing an AC30," but what you really get is a crap approximation of Brian May's guitar with Brian May's pickups playing through Brian May's amp(s) with Brian May's sound technician's EQ and gain settings masked unconvincingly over YOUR guitar playing through YOUR amp.
    A: That's NOT how amps work.
    B: The PICKUPS IN THE GUITAR are 10 times more important in determining the sound that comes out of the speaker than the tubes (modeled) in the amp!!

    One thing to keep in mind is that boss designed this amp to be a tubeless tune amp. That being said, the power section can and will compress and distort when dimed. From my experience with the amp. You can get more clean volume by dialing back the master and bringing up the preamp volume. Most clipping takes place in the upper mids too so rolling off the presence will help with headroom. Also speaker clipping becomes a factor as well.
    Within the tone studio, you can adjust the bias of the tubes and it doesn’t affect volume a whole lot if any.
    All in all, great video.

    Sitting on the fence, this video convinced me to go for it. One day in, not a second of regret. This is such an amazing amp!

    I just like playing in my house. I have a Nextone Stage after looking at all the amps, listening to dozens of videos, realizing I don't want something large or heavy or requires maintenance but can still produce a decent tone and doesn't break my bank account. I've paired it with a couple of distortion and fuzz pedals from electro harmonix. Sounds perfect. No complaints.

    • @dizzyguy7423

      does it sound good at lower volumes? the main put off of valve amps is that they don’t sound as good when they’re quiet and i can’t get too loud so if this amp does that it’d be perfect

    • @rizkyismail2852
      @rizkyismail2852 3 года назад +1

      @@dizzyguy7423 I have one of these, it's good for low volume and sometimes on channel el34 it feels like playing JTM 45, platform pedal is good even though the volume is low but the only drawback is if one day there is a problem with this amp, so I don't know where to fix it, so maybe still better with conventional tube amps with full cons but still easier to fix

    • @mattgilbert7347
      @mattgilbert7347 3 года назад

      @@rizkyismail2852 That sounds like the only reservation - but at least it is not full DSP modelling. Maybe easier to repair than something like the Fender Tonemasters? I don't really like what I have heard of those anyway,. This Boss amp sounds better.

    Many , many, thanks for this video. I have seen many other videos on this amp and I was aware you get some nice and very useable clean tones but I was concerned about the crunch , dirty tones, but your video has shown me the amp can produce some nice, useable , crunch , dirty , tones too. Many thanks .

    I have the 40W version. I genuinely have no idea how he can stand being in the room with that thing with the master and volume cranked. Even on the 20W setting on my Stage (half the power he's using here), cranked these amps are LOUD.

    Great Demo! I’m on the fence, I own a Boss Katana 100 1x12” and I love it, but the Nextone appeals to me because of the different Power sections. I’m always trying to dial my Katana to sound like different amps, Princeton, AC-15/30, Marshall JTM, Fender Tweed amps... and I’ve downloaded several of your configs for it. It comes close, but this amp seems like it would be more flexible, in that instance. The Katana has its own vibe, and works great as a clean pedal platform for my ever growing collection of pedals... but the Nextone seems like it would be a better candidate for emulating other amps more naturally. I really like the way that the Nextone responds to the volume of the amp, and has that natural sounding Sag and Compression that real tube amps do so well. I have had, and continue to have several real tube amps, a Fender 65 DRRI and a Milkman One Watt Plus, and have access to several of my brother and dads amps, a original 50’s Fender Harvard Tweed, a 5E3 Deluxe and several Dr Z amps, but for someone who lives in a apartment, I have a very small window most days to play those amps when my neighbors and my wife aren’t home... so these amps give me the flexibility to get close to the tones I love, without attracting unwanted negative attention. I look forward to your Katana Vs Nextone comparison, and thanks for the awesome videos!

      I havent gotten into the software for the nextone yet, but my experience so far is that its not a modeling amp for different brands of amp. The tube setting get you different tube characteristics but it still sounds like a 'boss amp', just with a different tube character. I hope that makes sense, its a little tricky to explain. Im uploading my nextone vs katana video right now

      60 Cycle Hum Can’t wait to hear it sir, thanks for the reply. I am also looking into getting a HX Stomp, as a modeling solution for the different amp tones/pedal board to curb my pedal addiction... perhaps that might be a better solution. Again, thanks for the great content!

    I'm a die-hard Katana user and gigger. I tried a Nextone recently and it was just as valvey as my Kat 100...but the channels and effects in the Katana's make them the winner for me. Amazing analogue "non-modelling" valve-logic technology. The valve has been superseded....at last!!!

    The Power Amp setting is THE heart of the amp and the whole point of it. The difference is meant to be Fender (6V6,6L6) vs Vox (EL84)vs Marshall (EL34) I would say. These amps must seriously be starting to overlap with the Roland Blues Cube series (with swappable tone capsules). Maybe a comparison with those amps would be good?

      from what i understand the nextone is the same kind of tech as the roland blues cube amps. I'm sure a boss/roland rep will be in here at some point to straighten out details like that, lol.

    8:00 Up to this point in the video I feel like I'm listening to a tweed pedal into a clean pedal platform amp (not in a bad way). I'd like to try one out. I feel like these BOSS amps are great in their own way once you stop expecting them to be tube amps. I loved the blues cube, but it didn't feel like I was playing a tube amp.

    The tube setting are supposed to be modeling specific amps:
    6V6 - Fender Princeton
    6L6 - Fender Hot Rod Deluxe
    EL84 - VOX AC30
    EL34 - Marahall

    How well does it clean up with the volume knob on your guitar? The one consistent criticism I hear of modeling amps these days is they don't handle that particularly well.

    • @60CycleHumcast
      @60CycleHumcast  5 лет назад +2

      its not a modeling amp, its solid state. Ill try that out next time i turn it on. its pretty dynamic so im assuming it will clean up just fine.

    Damn. I wanted to like this amp and the other demos made it sound waaaay more valve-like - gotta be some postproduction trickery there. This feels like a pretty honest review.
    Maybe they just didn't crank it, and had it running pretty clean. I'm just not liking what I'm hearing here. It sounds farty and fizzy.
    EDIT: I just noticed the presence control! Jesus, man. It's Tele not a bass guitar!
