    The ending seems so morbid and sad at first, but I actually felt like overall this was a very hopeful song. Regardless of what hits us halfway through the journey, it is essential to believe that we will make it to the other side, no matter what. The promise of the other side of any situation is in itself the best reason to try and cross. Love this song and love your reaction!

    • @ImTheOwens
      @ImTheOwens 2 года назад +15

      I take the ending to be open to interpretation, kind of depending on your perspective or mood. Because he sings about choosing to believe she made it to "the other side" which could mean the other side of the road OR the other side, as in the after life. Great stuff.

      @Zabiru- 2 года назад +1

      I had a similar reaction, I found it very weird to say the least at first. It must be at least in part the beautiful melody that did it but I was tearing up by the end. I'm somewhat trending towards the depression side of things at the moment though so that might certainly be part of it. On the other hand, I guess we're all trying to get to the other side when things are tough so maybe that was what resonated with me too..

    • @tersommers
      @tersommers 2 года назад

      @@Zabiru- While I don't lean toward the depression side, I can tell when my emotions get to me more on some days than others and I allow myself to cry more than I normally would. Maybe that is leaning more toward the depression side, but regardless, I agree about the beautiful melody and I agree about the observation that we all want to get to the other side and we normally wish the same for others. Sorry about the run on sentence, but I'm just trying to say that I agree with what you are saying. :)

      @@Tulip_bip This is the fun thing about great art. You can interpret this song in so many different ways. Could just be a silly song, could be song saying you shouldn't chase your dreams because of the danger of losing the things you have. For me it's the opposite, you should chase those dreams. You might lose people along the way but that's worth it if those people just keep you locked in the coop

    I think one thing gets lost when watching Inside: how amazing Bo’s editing skills are. We can respect his songwriting, his singing, his comedy, his performances and visuals… but the Outtakes really show just how much content he actually made, how much he repeatedly redid it to fine tune it and how certain, very specific, cuts had to be made. Inside has a narrative; a story running through it of how both Bo (and society) were losing their minds during the pandemic. And while I know this song is beautiful and thought-provoking, I actually don’t think it would have aided in the narrative.
    Inside is what it is because of the editing decisions as much as everything else.

    • @k0ku365
      @k0ku365 2 года назад +1

      The Outtake Video was as entertaining as his special and we can only imagine what other songs he made he deemed not good enough but are probably as good as the others. Yes his Skill in editing is phenomenal, you're getting sucked into Inside and the Outtakes just by his understanding of a good narrative. He is one of those "perfect package" Entertainers.

  • @curtisholsinger6023

    This song would have completely changed the final takeaway feeling from the special. "Inside" was largely about anxiety and the Pandemic. This song, while incredible, just doesn't match that tone. It was a great call he made, putting it in the Outtakes!
    EDIT: Yes, it COULD be taken as a "we will get to the other side of the road with this Pandemic or die trying." So there's that, I guess.

    • @elbruces
      @elbruces 2 года назад +5

      In "Goodbye" he has a line, "you pick the road, I'll meet you on the other side" which it seems was designed as a callback to this song. But without it, the line still works since I take it to mean we'll wave at each other from opposite sides of the street because social distancing.

    For me, the lyric “A life of brighter days… a width of road away” is especially meaningful. Like, it feels as though no matter how far I’ve come, the thing I need or what is just that much further away. Not far enough to turn around and go back, but also not close enough to feel confident in my ability to achieve it. This song is devastating in the best way possible.

The first time I heard the line,"To the sound of her husband's scream" I was tired, and I thought about a Roosters head being cut off to be turned into poultry (I later noticed he meant a rooster morning call) and that made it so much sadder for me 😂 so I added it into my video in hopes that I could get my family to cry. They might be birdbrains, but those brains aren't usually drying in the sun after meeting the grill of a Cadillac. Unlike the aforementioned. So rest assured, Mommy Dearest made it across. Now think of the children daddy has to tend to, thus not seeing to his duties while mom eats bugs aplenty and adventuring in the sunlight.

    The thing about some of this outtakes with amazing quality that didnt make it to the special may be because they didnt fit with the story Bo was trying to tell.

    I think that it's a metaphor about domestic violence cuz like "she woke up on hers husband's screaming" I know that her husband is a rooster but then there is the ending and that is that the chicken either died or it ran away and yeah. For me it is about that let me know what y'all think it is about that

    • @theConquerersMama
      @theConquerersMama 2 года назад

      I don't think so. Screaming to wake the up is a roosters job. To me it adds to the monotony of her life as mother and wife as she dreams of an impossible, impractical life. Becoming a dentist.
      Chicken do not have teeth.
      For me, it's about the grass being greener on the other side of the fence or road in this case.
      But art is subjective though.
      I think she got to the other side.

      @@NekoNyeil I'm not familiar with that story, but I did watch a lot of nature shows growing up. And I know that Bo Burnham likes to throw in a dark twist for comedy. Seems like he toned it down and went the Legend Of Sleepy Hollow route instead.
