Can I really use aero to my advantage?

  • Race car aerodynamics is really interesting and promising topic. But can mere mortal really understand how it works and use it to their advantage? I did a little research of some aero details of F1000 single seater and managed to get closer to understanding of how it produces such incredible grip!

    Hi, I did a fair amount of research on F1000 for my dissertation. Certainly some interesting finds through CFD etc. I reverse engineered the aero package and played with all of the settings and adjustment to optimise centre of pressure. If you want to talk it through I’ll be working on the perpetuum cars at Snetterton. Come say hi 👋🏼

      Hi, I'm going to be racing and running an F1000 this season if you had a handy cheet sheet for the aero set up that would be amazing?

    If someone thought that you don't take racing seriously it's the video to prove them wrong! )) I'm really surprised with the coding part. Thought that your skills in that area decreased over time. But it seems that you've been practising in it as well as on the track!
    Still I have the impression that knowing that your car will e.g. oversteer and be able to actually handle it in the heat of the race are two completely different things.
    As a spectator though, I loved the vid! More demonstration of how your program works in dynamics would be great also!

      Sometimes I think I take too seriously. )) Love coding, but usually I don't have enough ideas how to make it useful for me, this was one of them though. )
      Dealing with under/oversteer is part of racing routine let's say, the problem is when it is unexpected, so being able to predict it in advance definitely helps.
      And, yes I messed up a bit preparation of this video, so it's not ideal - agree (

    Very good video again .After watching the two races at Snetterton the other week ,maybe you could work out the effect that the cement dust (left by the GTs) had on Your downforce !
    Watching ,We thought You had the second race in the bag but just beaten . good to watch and a lesson in careful preparation . Thanks for posting again . Hope to catch up at a meeting next Year if You're doing more with the Monos ?

      Cement dust mostly affects mechanical grip I'm pretty sure, not aero. But the idea is interesting - I have to think it over. Second race was a mess yeah - I did a few mistakes, but Ben is really good driver - not ashamed to lose to him. :) I hope to race next two weekends - Snetterton again and Oulton then, but can't say about next season yet...hopefully. Thanks for watching mate!

    I want to race in f1000 next year, do you know any simulators where i can drive this car to get a bit of practice done

    • @here2race
      @here2race  3 года назад

      Hi mate! It's great car - I'm really pleased for you.
      About sims. I personally use USF2000 in IRacing to practice. It's NOT the same car with pros and cons, but it it's kind of similar. You can find exactly f1000 in some other sims, but I prefer physics in iracing, and you will have to adapt to real car anyway, so no sim can be absolutely identical to real life. Plus most of UK tracks are available in iracing in really good quality.
      Other options. There's F1000 in Grid game 2019, but I personally don't like physics there.
      Besides as far as I know there's a mod for automobilista - it has drivers and liveries of 2020 season, but I haven't tried it, so can't comment on physics quality. Here is link

    • @here2race
      @here2race  3 года назад +1

      @@noelburgers2257 Nah, there is not much you can do from steering wheel. Basically you can only scroll through some data from telemetry and ecu. But in my car system is pretty old, other guys have more advanced electronics, but in general this car is relatively simple.

    Do you have some info you can send me about the aero settings and their effects on the F1000?

    • @here2race
      @here2race  Год назад

      Well, as general guidelines. Just my personal experience.
      1. Try to go with minimal aero settings (lowest downforce). F1000 relies more on slicks and floor downforce than wings. So start with minimum, then increase gradually when necessary.
      2. Higher settings on wings (like 3rd-5th hole) are pretty ineffective in terms of drag/downforce ratio, so try to avoid. Rain is the exception, though.
      3. However, the effect of wings is not so big in my opinion, changes to aero balance are pretty noticeable. So try to avoid making steep changes between front and rear.
      4. Try to keep floor in good condition. Also front wing tends to become wobbly, if you see this on you onboards, it might be time to replace it, because in this state, it does mostly nothing.
      5. Speak to the team, do more testing and play with settings gradually.

    • @search4orlife
      @search4orlife Год назад +1

      Yes I was told it is a mostly mechanical grip car. Unfortunately no team to speak of, (I'm running the car myself) though Frazer said he'd help me out with setup. Thanks again, you really are the best youtuber I've come across.

      @search4orlife thank you, I appreciate. I don't remember a lot of details on f1000 now, but don't hesitate to ask, maybe smth will come up.
