Fantastic review, especially doing a review 3 years later - love the commitment! I actually didn't know that about pilling on clothes and I use a backpack daily so learnt something new today. Any chance you might have tried or plan to review the redesign for The North Face Recon backpack? Stuck on trying to decide between the two haha
that laptop space where the laptop pouch doesn't run to the bottom of the bag is to protect the laptop but also make the bag lighter since there is no need for extra padding underneath. I would ask if the bag becomes more unbalanced with a heavier laptop floating above the bottom and lighter items in the main compartment?
I’ve had my back for less then a year and the bottom of the back has started to rub and cut open by some sort of plastic in the back panel has this happened with yours or do you think my back it defective?

The straps tend to keep the bag up high which helps distribute weight fairly well.
