My wife went to see her Psychiatrist yesterday, after being on Keto for 13 months. She has also been on antipsycotics for over 35 years for schizophrenia! That is until yesterday. Her Doc stopped the last dose she was on after tailoring down for 12 months. She has also lost 57lbs and is stable now. Her mind is completely fog free. Thankyou so much for Mr and Mrs Baszucki and their interest in this work and Dr Scher for his expertise and excellence in interviewing skills with guests on the channel. Life changing.
The Keto diet has helped my health tremendously. I lost 20lbs and have kept it off over a year now. Also, my blood work is the best it's ever been. We need more docs like Dr. Scher.
Dr. Sher. A heartfelt thank you for your very empathetic patient approach. How we are often dismissed and not heard by professionals. How much we struggle on top. Thank you for seeing us, thank you for taking weight gain serious. I've been dismissed often because my weight gain was either a non symptom for my doctors, or because I'm "still in a green bmi range" it didn't matter.
I'm glad keto led me to be seizure free. Anti seizure meds and antidepressants wrecked my health years ago. I was very lean and the weight gain from these was abysmal until I underwent serious therapeutic fasting and living keto carnivore now
I have been trying ketovore for 8 months & so far it has not stopped my 2 monthly seizures. I have just added some vege's back into my diet as I was having terrible hair loss which seemed to have started about 6 weeks after stopping fruit & vegetable. I will occasionally add blueberries too along with Sheep yogurt that is suppose to be the highest in MCT, plus Goats milk at this stage. I have also started taking 2 tble spoons of MCT oil daily, 3 times a day & will see if this helps as I was taking 1tble spoons a day off and on for quite a few months also. I am waiting to have a consultation with a dietician from The Charlie Foundation which will be a great help. Today I found out I have to have a colonoscopy as some blood was found in a recent stool test. I am not looking forward to going back to hospitals & Drs that I have been trying to keep away from for the last year after a fall. They have been trying to get me back on meds for seizures started in 2004 after a TBI. I decided to stop meds myself in 2012.
I've been on a ketogenic diet since April 22 2023. By May 1st I was able to take three and a half times more steps per day and for the last 22 weeks since. So I got that much mobile capacity back. Next My weight has decreased from a maximum of 106 kg to 89 kg or less. My doctor had observed the clinical 10 % weight loss he is after. In fact I've lost 15% of the top weight. I have also been able to do housework for up to eight hours a day. It isn't fair that my psychiatric medications cause incapacitation, sedation and lack of motivation and satiety, but I am getting results with the ketogenic diet. Haven't had a blood test yet but hope for improvements.
Could you please do a video about women and the ketogenic diet? For instance, it seems that therapeutic ketosis could disrupt women's hormonal cycle which could counterintuitively contribute to mental and physical health issues for us women. Any thoughts or experts on this matter? Many thanks for your incredible work.
I gained a 100 lbs sneaking, and eating is embarrassing. How much I eat. My ideal weight is 130lbs from 230 pounds am now 228lbs my mom says eat like your self and walk like your self
How do you personally deal with the fact of counting low-carb vegetables? I love my veggies. OTOH, I do total 20 carbs, and when I count carbs in green veggies, cabbage and other nature's delicacies, I struggle mentally, which is kind of countereffect to what we want to achieve with keto ....
The main answer is that it's most important for individuals to understand what works for them because it may not be the same for everyone. One person can eat 20 grams of net carbs from veggies and do fine and some may not. So, just because many low carb veggies can be part of a ketogenic lifestyle doesn't mean they have to be. Here's an educational guide that goes over the difference between net and total carbs. Hope that helps. www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/calculate-net-carbs
That can be a common issue. If you are able, it may be worth working with a trained dietician, as they often have different approaches that may help. For instance, Beth Zupec-Kania has found that some people are carnitine deficient, and that can keep them out of ketosis. You can start here www.diagnosisdiet.com/directory
And yet the brain is mostly made of fat. I'd love to see evidence that low fat vegan starch diets can heal serious mental illness. Would love to see any published case studies or papers on this.

I have a problem that after taking psychiatric medication I can’t enter into ketosis. And my weight just went up, are there any solution for my case?

I also listen to @Peter Rogers MD ... he advises spartan vegan diet, mostly starches. fats are not good, nor oils.
